Corner cutting impacting safety rating

Recommended Posts

Corner cutting currently has a double punishment: in-race time penalties AND a safety rating hit even for just warnings. This is just too much. I would advocate for no safety rating hit, unless you actively hit someone. If nothing else, please make it such that a WARNING does not impact rhe rating and only actual penalties do.

If you’re pushing hard at all, you are likely to get a warning or two during a race. Just as harsh is that you are immediately disqualified from qualifying with a single corner cut. How about a time penalty or at least one warning first? It’s just too unforgiving. I’ve found myself conceding positions and driving extremely conservatively just to preserve safety rating. It takes away from the point of the game which is racing.

So, I ask, please revisit the corner cutting punishments. Either relax the meaning of strict corner cutting or make the impact more forgiving.

I have had warnings in slippery USA race before, got only a 2 sec penalty after 2nd warning, my safety rating is still going up. But it depends if you are cutting corners every race, you will get a consecutive penalty for it so I have heard.

There is pushing and there is going of circuit. The best bet is to aim to take every corner with all 4 wheels within the white line, its a common thing, even with pros it seems to cut so hard just to get a top time, but even if you still have 2 wheels on track, if those 2 wheels are on the white line and especially if the other 2 are touching grass or gravel then you are still cutting the corner.
In reality the drivers do go wide on some circuits but as a general rule you should always have all 4 wheels within the track limits. Even riding curbs hard you should always have 2 wheels well within the white lines.

As a racer who has had these penalties for cutting (however light they were, still 2 wheels well in the line) I am in agreement to having strict rules. It promotes a stronger racing etiquette with an easy way to avoid penalties simply by not cutting corners at all.

You already dont get a penalty point for the first instance if it is minor cut. An infraction warning would come up with a 0 next to it. So if you're getting a penalty point and a time penalty right away. You definitely abused track limits.

You definitely get a hit to your safety rating with warnings. I don’t get penalties often but I’ll occasionally have a race where I get nothing but two warnings and my safety rating drops.
