Fullscreen/Borderless

Recommended Posts

Hey! I've been playing f1 2018 for a while now, having a blast, but i came to wonder last night about a video setting. I use Vsync to get rid of stutters, so the game runs smooth. But i cant figure out, since im no computer expert, if its best to run it in Windowed (Fullscreen) or regular Fullscreen. Does anyone have any input on that note?

Well, the main difference is that it's easier to switch between applications in Fullscreen Windowed (as in the game doesn't minimize and doesn't have to rerender stuff), but it has a small performance impact since you still also render desktop. Fullscreen Normal doesn't have performance impacts, but Alt-Tabbing is longer and it minimizes the game, requiring it to redraw everything on screen later.

Basically, use whatever you prefer and you feel is better.

V-Sync will actually add stutter (& input lag); not remove it.  It only removes screen tearing.  Generally, windowed vs full screen won't make a difference, though I did see someone report that windowed mode resolved some stutter or frame rate issues (I forget which), so it might be worth trying, but I suspect it's case by case.  Best to just try out both and decide for yourself.

not wanting to hijack a thread, but it might go in here ok...
windows 10 and PC last month the  steam client updated itself as usual without any option to do otherwise. it installed 'friends'. the 'friends' window popped up before the game started and siezed  the forefront, forcing the game to open in a background window even though the games settings are always on full screen. not only that, but the game video settings  resolution decided to change themselves and the refresh rate, which was set to 60, went into 'auto' and got me the jutters around 30fps until I changed them back again (thank you Steam and Codemasters, what a team effort). if I quickly closed that 'friends' window before the game started, and clicked on the games icon, it proceeded as normal. this is even though I had selected in 'friends' window's options to be 'offline'. it still wanted me to know I had friends' out there to connect to.
only after a few weeks of this did I see an option in 'friends' settings (top right  cogged wheel icon)  to not try to connect (I forget the name of it, but it was not just the 'offline' option I had already selected).
with friends like these....
(also from time to time I still get steam deciding I must connect online to play MY game which I PAYED FOR). you'd think a meaningful message as to why this is necessary and an option to continue if not would be nice and user friendly  to the customer). /end rant
