Codemasters Please Look Into These Issues

Recommended Posts

Speaking as one who is mostly/only interested in the offline portion, F1 2018 is a good game, with a great racing experience. Doing the career races are enjoyable, tough, exciting and its fun to watch it all play out. But there are some issues with the experience that make it somewhat hard to enjoy at times and i'd like to see Codies do the right things and fix these issues for not only this years game but for the ones to come!

1. Please take a look at AI driver grid penalties and retirement rates. This is subjective, but it seems to happen a little too often, and it can cause a championship race that seems close get out of hand very quickly. I like it is a part of the game, but it shouldn't dictate the championship.

2. Please take a look at AI laptimes in practice and in qual (especially those where the real driver isn't a part of). The AI seem to revert to default car levels if the real driver isn't a part of a quali session. This may or may not also be in practice. This means that cars that have outdeveloped other cars won't start where they should if the real driver doesn't take part in Q3.

3. Please take a look at AI drivers who have a failure and/or are under blue flags. AI drivers in these two cases do a bad job of getting out of the way. Ive seen several blue flagged cars dart one directoin and then back in front of the car lapping them and take them out.

4. Please take a look at AI speeds at all tracks. Some tracks the AI are just way faster than they are at others. Specifically Australia, Bahrain, Baku, USA, Abu Dhabi, and maybe some others the AI is just better than at other tracks. Also, it seems that AI tend to be slow in fast sweeping corners compared to real drivers (not in all cases).

5. AI drivers DO make mistakes on corner entry like locking up tires or overshooting. This is great to see! However, they never make mistakes on throttle, i never see them get squirly coming out of a corner, and in general they just apply throttle too well (especially in the wet!). Please take a look at finding a way to balance their lap times whilst giving them more personality and chance to make a mistake on throttle.

6. Please look at balancing the AI pit strategies on 50% races. I know this is probably designed for 100% races, but since we can't partially simulate a race, most of us don't have time for 1.5hour races. 50% races need balancing on AI strats, as doing 1 stops (2 stops at some tracks) are in general much better because of long pit delta time and traffic issues (because your first stint may only last 5-10 laps). It stinks to see the leading ai car take another set of the softest tire on their first stop (meaning they'll have to pit again...) and be 20 secs behind you.

7. Please add a virtual mirror. The AI are nicely aggressive, but for us who want to race cockpit view with semi-realistic FOV, we can't even come close to seeing the mirrors. I know its ugly, but if its possible (not part of a FIA license issue) please add this as an option.

If you took the time to read these thanks! I really am enjoying this years game!

I also agree totally. HOWEVER most of these issues have already been present in F1 2017 and some in even earlier games. So I doubt they will patch them.
But 50% races are especially bizzare this year because of the tyre wear. The top 10 on the grid are always on a two-stop-strategy and the rest on a one-stop. The top 10 then pit earlier and are stuck in traffic for most of the race. That's why I often get really weird results, like Nando on the podium or Leclerc in P4, while the two Red Bulls barely finish in the points. It's hard to get conclusive results and to know how fast you really are when you're in a midfield team with on less stop. Sometimes I'm even happy when I'm just 11th or 12th in qualifying because then I get use harder compounds.
