AI Career mode!

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

Not here to complain or rant. I just have a legit question i want a response to.. I will state the question first, and my story/reasoning afterwards. Read it all before replying, i say it again, its a legit question, not a rant. And i dont want this thread to become a victim of short passive-agressive replies as to why i suck and "learn to drive".
Here goes: Are the AI blind and plain stupid, or am i just another bad driver, who thinks he is better then i am in reality? (Career mode, no assists except rewind, Simulation damage, cockpit cam, AI difficulity = 80)

Story:
Im new to F1, started in the 2017 game and just got the 2018 game a couple days ago. So far i cant say anything else then that i love it all together so far. BUT, the problem im having, i have to play with "Rewind" enabled. Why? you might ask.. Because literally every turn, atleast in the opening couple of laps, the AI plays demolition. (Im not an idiot, i know the purpose in this game compared to regular racing games, when starting with a lowend team, is not to win. Drive safe, and end up close to your teammate and improve on safe/clean driving). But for some reason, if im ahead of someone, and i go into the turn, either they crash in my side to push me in the wall. IF i am lucky enough to get through the turn, someone crash in my rear and i spin out. And even then IF i am so darn lucky, to make the turn, and come alive out on the straight. they will crash me again when i break for the next turn. It feels like the AI doesnt register that my car is on the track, they keep to their lines and coding "orders" even if im there completely equal to as if i was not there. It feels like im invisible to them, and are not supposed to be there. And if i am where they are supposed to go due to coding, yeah then they ignore that fact and crash me out. They dont even get a penalty for it, i do, including penalty for "cutting of track" to add a third to that, ofcourse a totalled crashed car. And to be even more dramatic and add a FOURTH point to that, their car doesnt even take damage! they just keep racing.. Which brings me to having to rewind atleast 3-4 times every single lap of a 30 lap race...

Am i just a idiot driver who doesnt understand how to drive in F1, if so, how can i improve? Or is the AI actually blind, careless, and aiming to destroy my car? Whatever the reason, i need some tips and guidance from someone who is a better F1 racer then i am.. I want to improve and i spend literally all my free time right now on this game. But now i have come to race 16 in my first season, and this only get worse by every race... Its ruining the fun for me. It might just be me driving bad, ofcourse, but if so how am i supposed to drive to not feel like i partake in a demolition race? Please give me some good, detailed answers.. And i beg you all to keep it civil. And not end this thread with "learn to drive, bb"

Thanks in advance.
Erik

They are more aggressive this year but fair racing is possible with them. It's difficult to say without seeing you race but perhaps it's racing lines coming into a corner. You really have to pick your line if they are close behind you this year as they will attempt to overtake. You can't races as if they are not there. By that I mean you have to pick a line and give them a cars width at all times. Try watching some YouTube videos on it. There is a great channel by chain bear which goes over all sorts of things from F1. I have learnt so much from him

Thanks for the reply, i will see if i can find something to learn from on his channel. I guess im not that good on "pick a line" I kind of just solodrive alot during practice and find my own lines, which i then use in the race. Maybe those self-made lines is what breaks it for me. maybe they overlap somehow with AI's lines and then actually makes it my fault we collide...? Something to think about and look out for next race, thanks.

This was something I struggled with initially particularly being spun off from behind - partly it's down to A.I not deviating away from the racing line and partly if you weave ever so slightly back on to the racing line if you wasn't fully on it before.

Always leave A.I a cars width - even if common sense suggests that A.I should lift off the accelerator
