DR2.0 DLC Types/Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hello.

So whenever everyone talks about DLC for DiRT Rally 1 / 2.0, the main refered features are either tracks or cars. However, there's a lot of areas that can and should be explored in the game with the introduction of DLC according to community demand as well. Here are a few topics that could be explored for future DLC introductions in DR 2.0. I'll start by the obvious and then go down to the least remembered.

- New rallies and old rallies returning from DR;
- Cars and liveries;
- Tracks;
> However this one would mean travelling again to all the countries they've been to and it's very expensive, so unlikely to happen.

- Super-Special Circuits;
> These are still used as WRC openings and have been absent from Codemasters' rally games since CMR2004(i guess). For those who don't remember what these circuits are, it's basically a track very similar to rallycross design where 2 rally cars race side by side simultaneously. These tracks are rally openers and can be used to determine in some cases road position, but mainly it's a show to entertain the public. Keep in mind that not all rallies have a Super-Special Circuit. These circuits wouldn't need to be realistically scanned and instead the devs could simply develop them manually by having a reference chart/blueprint of the track and model it as similar as possible, like they have done in CMR2.0 and so on, rather than dispatching a whole team on that country.

- Co-Driver pack;
> So we had Nicky Grist in D4 and now we have Phil Mills as another great co-driver. How about extending this feature a bit more and allow us to select our co-driver? This way you can add Nicky Grist to DR2.0, as well as other iconic co-drivers such as Robert Reid, Daniel Elena, Luis Moya, etc.

- VR;
> Highly requested and self-explanatory.

- WRC introduction once and if the licenses are obtained in the future.

Together with these DLCs, the core game will obviously suffer changes in its version regardless of who buys the DLCs. Such changes include:

- Physics tweaking / improvement if necessary.
- Multiplayer improvements, such as new features like staging, multi-class lobbies, esports, etc.
- Spectator mode introduction and improvements (more TV cameras, exterior client able to spectate only for streaming purposes).
- Performance tweaking / improvement if necessary.

So as you can see there's a lot of road ahead that can be covered step by step and there's lots of development for at least the next 2 years. Of course for this to happen, the playerbase will have to show their interest by playing the game, keeping it alive and purchasing DLCs shall they conclude their quality justifies the money it's being paid for. Having all these aspects united, we can do with DR2.0 what Assetto Corsa have done with their game, keeping it alive and fresh for years in a sustainable manner, until it's time enough to justify another sequel.
Given recent events, the DiRT franchise should focus on Rally only since we are in a sim era and the sims are selling way more than arcades today. There's a lot more technology available today than 15 years ago and most people have the basic setups to play sims decently and there's a higher demand for more realism in the whole automotive gaming market. So wasting money on alternative IPs, like DiRT4, is senseless.
The studio should not have fear of shutting down a series or putting it on halt until theres a high demand for it, and instead focus on what the market is asking for. This will result in an overall better quality game because there's more budget, more money, happier customers and happier devs.

Feel free to add any ideas.

We already know what they want to do with DLC. One DLC every three months, with 5 new cars and 3 new locations, most likely one rally and two rallycross tracks.

Yes but this is a thread that explains that theres more fields that can be explored further and people can post their ideas. Like Ross said in the dirt show, any extra features the community would like to see introduced or improved.

Oh man co diver options would be nice but I don't have a good feeling about them selling it ala carte. What we need is a co op mode where I can either drive or be co diver and actually read pace notes to another player driver out on the stage.

One Rally DLC isnt enough..far far from it.  Hopefully as a community we can talk them into 3-4 more locations further down the road on top of the 6 we are getting.

I like the idea of your thread, but as pointed out, they already have their DLC plan mapped out clearly (although we don't know which specific content will be in them, i.e. which cars and locations.) We also know they have thought about future DLC after the 6 month plan if the demand is there. Maybe at that point they could consider other DLCs, but most likely it would follow the same format of the other ones.

It's 3 new locations each, so at least 2 new rallies and maybe more if the first two DLC sell well.

Considering theres 4 missing WRX events from the game and the 2 DLCs will include 6 locations, suffice to say there will be 4 WRX events and 2 rallies in those 2 DLCs combined, which is quite a shame for rally fans and non-wrx fans but still better than nothing. The good news is that if things go right, theres no more WRX events to block the way :mrgreen:

They're not going to replace both RX tracks with two new rallies. If anything, they would just be gone with no replacement.
