Help needed as I dont understand AI correctly

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I am new to this game, but I need help.  I do a time trial at Melbourne in the Williams and do a time of 1.24.53, time was midday and sunny.  When I go to career mode same track same car and setup my time is 1.32.11 and AI are aprox 6 seconds ahead  I have AI set on 70.  Please can you advise.

Cars in career mode start off worse so that they progress the more you go through career.

check that you're running same assists as those in TT

different car setup?

In time trial the cars have all performance upgrades fitted, but in career they start with none so they will be slower at the start of a career.

Finding the best AI setting in career is trial and error at first, would suggest to try find a setting that puts you close to your team mates pace.

Thank you guys for your help.  All the upgrades would make sense then as I am no where near the pace.  I will keep doing a career mode until I get a time thats close to team mate.  And yes the car setup is the same as TT.  Thank you so so much.

@Ian1964 like Qrazzo mentioned it's not true that time trial cars have upgrades fitted. In career mode all cars start off with 2018 'base performance' and improve from there. In time trial all cars have the 2018 performance as well. A full upgraded career car easily beats the top 10 times from the TT leaderboard.

Time trial is usually faster because the conditions are ideal; the track is fully rubbered in and the tyres stay the optimal temperature for a whole lap and don't degrade. In career mode, FP1 until FP3 all have much lower grip on track, but in qualifying, one shot qualy or Q3 you should have similar grip levels compared to TT on fresh tyres and the lap time should be pretty close.

About your problem with the AI being too fast: There's currently a bug in the game where the AI can set impossible sector times whenever you ''simulate/fast forward'' parts of a session. My workaround for this at the moment ( for qualifying) is to use one shot qualifying, that way you can at least be sure the lap times are not bugged. For practice it's more difficult as it will always simulate the final bit after the flag drops for AI, but until then you can avoid selecting flying lap instead of driving out of the garage and forwarding time.

@Worntoathread  Thank you very much.  Also I noticed when i started the Career first time i had AI about 20 and my self rookie or amatur and game seemed ok, but now I have changed to elite but put on my traction but in practice the track aclimatization and all the other tests I can no longer get near the target time.  Does that change when i up my level or anything.  As i said AI 20% was ok but say AI 100% I cant get near target time.
Thank you

Also be wary of how accurate the qualifying programs are in career.  They are often far too harsh and aren’t representative of your actual pace compared to the rest of the field.

For example: Silverstone I did last night I was setting the fastest laps of the session and still was unable to pass the qualifying program. When it came to qualifying I achieved pole position with a slower time than I achieved in free practice.

Hopefully these foibles will be sorted out eventually.

Target times get harder the more you develop car too. I have Alfa at 860 performance points in season 3, its been 860 all season as LeClerc and I ran away with championship, but now the AI are close again. 5 teams are above 800. Haven't touched engine yet beyond first upgrade, but some laptimes are pretty crazy now. 1:02 Austria, 1:06 canada, 1:15 Monza, 1:40 Spa. Miles ahead of anything I can get in TT.
