What's Wrong With DR 2.0? - CARS

Recommended Posts

Here's some research  about R5 class wheel tracks:

First of all FIA regulations is maximized the wheel track of each class. R5 wheel track is set to 1618 mm (both at front and rear axle)  data at citroenracing.com:
JAR4Fcv.jpg

How does the model look (it is important, because no visual correction (offset) has been made, like for example in case of Assetto Corsa), so what 3D model settings has got, exactly what you can see on your screen during gameplay) :
Z3IXylz.jpg

You can see how much narrower is the wheel track in DR 2.0 ...

Let's calculate the difference!

I  put a box tho the outer sides of the tyres to check dimensions.
R5 cars uses ~200 mm tyres on their wheels, that means you have to calculate minus 10 cms on each side to get the middle position of the wheels - which used for wheel track
Xy78c2Z.jpg

As you can see, the 174 cm between of the outer sides, so we have to calculate 174 - 2x10 = 1540 mm

1618 - 1540 = 78 mm
- 7,8 cm is the difference

That means almost minus 4 centimeters offset on each side. The R5 cars runs on almost 8 cm less wide wheel tracks!
That's a huge difference!

That is the answer why all the cars looks so weird in class R5 (and many others, like the Stratos) ...

Good research! Although, not all R5 cars look bad, the Fiesta, the Space Star, the 208, the Polo, all look fine. The body of the Citroen and the Skoda seem to have been modelled separately from the wheels and they didn't have time to correct them when the marriage of chassis and drivetrain happened.

I really hope they fix fabia and c3 tyres position...the c3 it's so bad that i can't even look at it...(i'm really disappointed, the c3 it's easy one of my favourite R5…)i love how you have make the point with images and documented on fia regulations to compared to the ingame model! Good stuff man!hope there is a way to point this big issues out to the devs...in my opinion the other big issue with R5 cars it's the polo, fabia and 208 engine sound.they are really flat and totally missing the awesome and accurate engine vibration sound when powerslide (they did it well with fiesta, space star/mirage and c3)

Aww, i found another big problem... IDK who is that 3D artist @ Codemasters  who doesn't care about UVW Maps and take several parts to wrong place? BWOAH

Look at his Mitsubishi Mirage R5 rear wing parts:

RearWing_Side_panels_on_rear_door2.thumb.jpg.e9c5e056c43e1f264b47b10dd411a142.jpg

Their UVW Map has been stored on the middle of the right rear door!!!
Here:
RearWing_Side_panels_on_rear_door.thumb.jpg.dd6691dd8f90baa6b10ee8af9e9e59d3.jpg

Now i can't make a proper new custom livery for free for users, because of this sh.t

Codemasters never learn about their faults, So the Escort Cosworth still use the same UVW map for the opposite sides of window glass, So we still can't put different  stickers to there,

Minor spot but, having mentioned in another thread, I thought I'd put it here as well: the PSRXVW Polo R Supercar is shown as having an inline engine when the bonnet is up, pretty sure it's a transverse setup in real life.

so my question is how they could do the correct driving physics if the models are off? just curious

CM compare the wheeltrack of a C3 R5 IRl to your 3D model and you'll see the huge difference ...

A couple issues with the rear lights on some cars. Not game-breaking by any means, but here they are:

First up, the 997/2:

On the real car, the tail and brake lights use different LED patterns. This trips up many videogame artists, who make both identical.

The real taillights are an open-ended shape

997tail.thumb.jpg.13dfe8e712bde528408486109871bb8c.jpg

But they change to a closed shape when the brakes are applied, presumably to get that little extra bit of the following driver's attention

997brake.thumb.jpg.a371bc6e8112240636f5deeed79b9590.jpg

The in-game car uses the open-ended shape for both, so the tails are correct and the brakes are wrong, as pictured here

game997brake.thumb.jpg.67ccaf906fe4607be483a08d014a5647.jpg

Now moving on to a newcomer, the Fabia WRC:

On the real car, the bottom portion of the lights functions as the tail light and the top portion is for the brakes. Again, having them be different grabs your attention more as a following driver.

On the in-game car, they just made everything red light up for both functions and called it a day.

Real car with tails on, no brakes. Top portion is dark.

Fabiatail.thumb.jpg.0634c00c84a1203998a23cdab8e8c387.jpg

Now real car with tails on and brakes applied. Top portion is now lit.

Fabiaboth.thumb.jpg.e18594b9c4b3000970231f43443c312e.jpg

In-game car tails only. Everything is lit.

In-game car, brakes only. Everything is lit.

It occurred to me today that the rear track on the 6R4 looks way too narrow. It’s as if they have used the measurements for a standard Metro because the wheels are so far inwards of the wheel arch.
