Why are we NOT allowed to replace components outside of events even if they are worn but not damaged?

Can anyone explain to me why I am not allowed to replace these springs in My Team? They are at what, 75% performance? I understand not being able to do it mid-event without time penalty, but why can't I pay money to replace any component with any amount of damage on it before starting a new event?

I know it isn't the most efficient use of my credits, but when I start up a new championship in Elite I would be willing to pay literally the cost of a new car to replace every single component with a brand new one so as to start the event off as strong as possible. Let me drop $25k in credits to swap out an engine that is at 95% performance; let me throw $10k at a new gearbox and drivetrain even if both of them are above 80% performance.

As it stands now, I have to go out of my way to "quick-fix" components at the very last service stop of every event so I can get the "replace" option after I finish the event. It gets really annoying really quick, especially with the cars I use mostly for Community Events where I don't get the luxury of timing my repairs to get max performance later on.

Because the game is very poorly designed. Don't get me wrong, the driving is good, but that's it, everything else was clearly a tacked on afterthought with zero QC.

Strange, if I go to 'my garage' and select a car I can repair or replace all damaged components.

It´s not about if they´re damaged. The components have a "performance"-level as well. So even though a certain component may not be damaged, it can still be only at 70 % of its capabilities in terms of performance. As you can see in his screenshot. The springs aren´t damaged, yet they´re only at an estimated 75-80% performance-wise.

I think you can improve your chief engineer to be able to diagnose problems more quickly 🙂

My engineers are maxed out, that was the first thing I did with the 1 million credits we got the release weekend trying to deal with this exact issue. At this point, the only "fix" I have found is to go out of my way to not repair components, so that I can time them all on the final service stop for a 'quick-fix' which damages the component even more but ensures I can replace them after the event ends.

I'm not sure but I think the performance "bar" has to be below a certain threshold before replacement becomes an option. I don't really understand the logic behind that design decision, but I think that's how it works.

It's just another strange "user experience" decision.  Someone was "learned well" at a University for sure to make these decisions for us. 🙂

Did you update the springs in the car?

Do you mean like get the upgraded springs? Yes, the whole car is fully upgraded (without the custom tune unlock, Stock4Life). But I did that before even starting the championship. Luckily in the next event at SS5 I had damaged the springs enough to replace them and was able to sneak a fresh set onto the car in a service stop.
