Best R5 car

Just wondered what is the recommendation of the best R5 car?

The R5 class is pretty balanced, more balanced than any class we've had in DR and D4, but I found the Mitsubishi and the 208 to be faster (at least it felt like it). I guess it just depends on driving style. The Volkswagen disappointed, but to be honest it disappoints in real life as well so it's accurate.

yes it's true!

Just yesterday i wached a recap of a super special stage from CIR (Italian Rally Championship) and a VW (with at the wheel a well known talented driver in the series) took 8.2 seconds from a Skoda (min 45:43)

It's strange, because that R5 has been in development for quite a lot of time, and given the success VW had in former WRC with similar specs everyone was expecting the R5 to be at least competitive, but Skoda remains in the top. The Mitsubishi Mirage/Space Star ralliart is running strong in the USA championship. I wish they would also run in the european rounds as well, besides being fast it looks damn good in ralliart colors, despite the city version being total **** 😄

I think you mean the Skoda took 8.2 secs from the VW. the better one 'takes' 🙂

nice to see that those "Head to Head" events we saw in the earlier Dirt games are still alive and well. they were fun.

I went for the 208, as it had just the right amount of understeer that could be easily dialled out.

The Skoda was a close second, similar in feeling to the 208 but harder to find the sweetspot.

The VW close third, a little more tail happy but underpowered.

Fourth- The Ford was pretty balanced but I could not get the grip on accel and during slides.

Fifth- Mitsubishi had a very restricted cockpit view, for me, so this was discounted for that reason.

Sixth- The Citroen seemed to suffer with a very loose rear end under braking, no matter what I did to adjust it.

I use the 99% of the times the Skoda or the Fiesta, I cant use the C3 because it is too understeery, the Mitsubishi is ugly, dont like the Polo, and thought that the 208 was slow like in real life lol

It seems indeed that the R5 class is well balanced, so the best R5 car is the one you're most comfortable with.

Fiesta is the only car you need if you can learn to tuck the nose and manage the understeer. Well all of the R5s tend to understeer, but some LFB love fixes it just like with the Quattro.

I drive the 208, because it's quite balanced even with its default setup. Also I love how its engine sounds, angry and loud, makes me drive agressively and with a big grin on my face. :)

If you havent tried the Peugeot give it a try, it's a really fun car.

The Skoda is also great, but maybe too balanced and boring for my taste. The Pug feels more lively for me, but it's my personal preference.

The Fiesta is good, but I don't like it's intrument panel, hard to read in wich gear I am.

The VW is easy to drive but it's slower than the other I've mentioned so far.

I haven't tried the Citroen and the Mitsubishi, simply because I like to watch replays and I don't want to ruin the experience with such ugly cars. 😄

no, because they have the disadvantage of having to pause the game to vomit every stage or two, which messes up their rhythm 😄

For me, best R5 cars are the Fiesta (maybe it's just because I like Ford too much, as friends of mine seem to struggle with it, as well as with the Gr. A Escort), and the Fabia.

As far as I know, the Rally America/ARA Mirage that runs in the USA is very distant from an R5 car, as it runs 2.0L Lancer Evolution X engine and takes advantage of the Open Class set of rules, while the R5 car runs an... I don't know the exact word, but it is also an Evo X engine, but with a displacement of just 1.6L. Neither of them run under Ralliart colors thought, nor are developed by Mitsubishi (thus, the R5 Mirage can't run on international events)

Interesting... for my liking, the Polo is clearly the best. But as with all other cars, that may simply be because it suits my driving style. (I also see it a lot on leaderboard top spots, so it can't be so bad)

edit: just checked, on 5 of 12 stages in Monte Carlo the #1 is Polo. Definitely not bad, this car.

Didn't know that, I thought it was an R5 spec'd car. About the livery I was talking about this picture

Polo R5 is a big Fail.
I can't understand how VW did make a bad job... They used Fabias - same engine, same suspensions, same everything and they had 1 years to develop that car and much-much slower than Fabias IRL too

IMO
- Mitsubishi is the fastest in DR 2.0, and easy to drive and well balanced, but looks ugly AF
- Peug is the next, but it's already boring, cause the oldest in this category
- Skoda is fast, but have to play much more with setups
- Fiesta is well balanced for every condition, but not enough power and sounds bad
- Citroen looks ugly AF , but good on tarmac with default setup

ps: i bought a used Fabia for 564 000 to my garage... 🙂

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll test drive a couple but I'm edging to the 208 however let's see in the test drive.

I've just got promoted to clubman so want to ditch the Lancia and try a different class in the next championship

I think the Fabia is the fastest car (at least for me), but I tend to stick with the Fiesta as I find it a little easier to get sideways.

fiesta is fast the mitsubishi is probably neglected but dont its very quick in places like argentina.

I tend to use the more or less neglected cars, so I find myself taking the Mitsubishi when the leaderboards are full of Polos, and they are indeed. Dash cam is also much better in the Mitsubishi than in most of the other cars.

Oh, I didn't know about that. Well, it's anyways just a render, that have never been used and, if you look closely, you could see plenty of differences between that car and the R5 and Open Class cars.

As for the USA car being a R5, neither the now defunct Rally America nor the current American Rally Association championships used/uses FIA-ruled cars, except for Antoine L'Stage using a 2005 Lancer WRC during some events on... 2009 or 2010 maybe? And also Subaru Rally Team USA used Group N cars during the first half of the past decade, but those dated back to the SCCA Pro Rally Championship, which didn't use FIA cars anyways...

Sorry for the offtopic guys!! Just a rally freak which likes to talk about them anytime I have an opportunity.

Eitherway, that ralliart mirage/space star would be a nice car for Mitsubishi to return to WRC with a 1.6L. Financially Mitsubishi is in shallow waters compared to Subaru, but Subaru don't have such a package.
