DiRT Rally 2.0 Road Book - 08/04/19

The game runs at 60fps on consoles right? Has anyone considered the possibility that to get it to run at or near 60 they've had to reduce the graphics quality on the older consoles? I've not seen what it's like but this would be my best guess, rather than "they just made it look bad for shits and giggles"

@MattyH1812 It is correct, however, that it is not right that those who play the consoles of less power do not see in the same way or at least at the level of dirt4, they should have solved it in the next patch but I fear it will take much more

But, it's 2 years newer than DiRT 4, of course it's going to perform worse on the same console due to the improvements in gaming in general. Being annoyed at this is like getting GTA V on PS3 in 2015 and being annoyed that the graphics aren't the same as on the PS4

@MattyH1812 this is the first game that has this kind of problem, before releasing this game they would have had to watch it on every single console as you can see and what performance it has to get it to the maximum possible resolution, the consoles are always the same and the resolution doesn't change .

Resolution doesn't change but the detail (texture, lighting, particle etc) levels in order to achieve close to 60fps would absolutely have to be reduced to accommodate the older consoles lack of power which will make the game look worse. Just like how you if you have a less powerful PC you might have to turn graphics settings down in order to achieve 60fps, it's the same principle.

if putting it on 30fps would solve this all and would guarantee crystal clear images on ps4.. then i would say please put it back to 30fps. or at least give us the option.

or if it would look better without spectators then please give us a chance to remove them. (just thinking of some stuff that could work)

Did they fix the sound on the skoda yet? Pretty lame to have to pay for the BMW when it's not finished. It's becoming a bit of a habit with this group. A week? Fine.. but jeez

I could be wrong, but last I heard they no longer had access to the car they were going to use to record from but were looking for another.

Regarding waiting a week for the final audio - no-one is forcing you to use it for that week. I for one would rather have it now with the audio being finalised next week than wait another week for the whole thing.

Tried the M1 on gravel (USA) for a few stages yesterday and found it surprisingly controllable, it felt tamer than the RGT cars to me personally.

Hi, thanks for the update, really love the Manta 400, it's what the Ascona needed: More POWER!

The more than beautiful M1's sound will be updated I read?

N00B Question: Where can I find the Special liveries?

EDIT: Is there any chance we get the 037 later on(my fav DR1 car)?

Thanks!

BR

Robin

You can find special liveries in livery select option (that one which is where you choose a car).

@thatDutchguy83 The fps would have had to reduce based on the console, in my opinion they made a unique graphic for all or that of the x and here you see blurred.

I don't think so. Isn't it written in announcement when you run the game?

@MattyH1812 You really have to see it to understand what’s happening and how bad it is. The game runs at a solid 60fps so fluidity is not an issue. But parts of the screen (dashboard, spectators, etc.) are literally out of focus and the textures of the road are totally blurred, with no detail whatsoever. It gives the feeling that the textures are in a much lower resolution than 1080p. This is specially bad on tracks with similar textures to the surrounding terrain (typically dirt, mud, etc.) as it makes it virtually impossible (specially at high speed) to distinguish where the road is going.

As for the ‘older consoles’ argument, well the PS4 Pro is still the latest generation console and new titles, as demanding or more than DR2, keep being released every day... and with no graphical issues. Worst case scenario I would even easily settle for Dirt 4 graphics quality (or sharpness).

In any case, now that Codemasters have acknowledged the existence of the “blurriness” issue, I’m optimistic that they’ll address it. After all they wouldn’t want to alienate the whole PS4 community, would they?

Yeah I definitely get that, and agreed. I bought both new cars already 🙂, and Group A RWD are one of my favourite classes for sure.

My quip was just that they keep stumbling out of the gates on various things. The new cars are a welcome addition indeed.

@cafe5150 the blurriness that is seen when actually playing the game (not watching replays), that PS4 Pro players have been reporting since the game was released and that Codies have already acknowledged and are looking into. It is not a subjective issue for interpretation, although some players seem to find it less aggravating, which can be related (just a theory) to the tv’s size. Odd as this may sound, not all of us feel like making up flaws in the game just for the fun of it instead of spending our time playing the game. But I’m glad that you are not afflicted by it! 😉

Well it's obviously more an issue on PS4 than it is for Xbox or PC. I'm not saying it's perfect, just not the writeoff some will have you believe.

it’s not more of an issue on the ps4 than xbox and pc, it’s a ps4 only issue.

Has anyone determined if it is exclusively the scaling to 4k issue (regardless of h/w or tv upscaling)? like if you have the ps4 hooked up to a standard 1080p tv, is it still just as blurry?

That'll be why then. It's a shame, they all should be comparible you would think.

Yep. It has been discussed somewhere else in the forums with players trying all sorts of adjustments, including forcing both console and tv to 1080p, turning off HDR, playing with brightness, contrast, gamma, etc. but nothing solved or even minimized the problem.

Edit: forgot to include my thank you for your support and attempt to help in a constructive way. It feels a lot better than to be accused of trying to slam the game by denouncing a real issue!

i know replays might not be the best example but here i recorded 2 time trials and this is litterally the best quality i can get out of it. u might see now what we mean by blurry or just bad graphics (at speed you see it all over the screen).

Now try to play that same stretch at dawn or at night and with rain and you’ll end up with a messy headache.

This basically means that we don’t get to play career mode or online events (since we cannot pick weather and time of day).

And that’s why we need it to be fixed!

You are absolutely right... up to when you say “it’s the same principle”, because it’s not. In fact it’s exactly the opposite principle. You could even consider it a paradox but the older a console gets the better new games turn out. Unlike with the PC, where game developers have to constantly keep ahead of technological evolution but still allow for older machines to run their software (by giving the users the possibility to run the games with lower settings), consoles keep their specs for their whole life. This means that games released early on after the launch of a new console generation don’t yet benefit from the experience gained by developers after some years of trying to squeeze the most out of the exact same machine. On top of that come regular OS releases that often improve the performance of the consoles and introduce new features. So, to sum it up, if anything DR2 should perform at least as well as DiRT 4 (graphically), although I would even expect it to be able to run at 4K, like pretty much all recent AAA titles.
