Disappointing liveries (console)

Recommended Posts

Cant help it, I really love this game, but i think for most cars the livery selection is not that great.  Even with the free added DLC liveries there is still almost nothing even close to real life rallycars to choose from.  F.E. the latest focus is a blast to drive! But in replays it just looks mehh... I know we dont see our livery from inside the car when driving, but i think a rallyfan wants to see some decent (historic) real world liveries when watching the replays where we spent hours to nail some stages. i know its due to licensing but come on, there have to be some real world liveries that are affordable for codemasters right?! i would even happily pay for such a replica livery pack as DLC.

I think it's nice that for a lot of the cars there are some good official liveries. Usually the very first ones are really great. The alternate selections are just terrible though, i think most people could make better in the Dirt 4 livery editor.

No idea what happened with the Focus, all 4 liveries are horrendously bad. There was probably some licensing issue with the liveries but could they not have at least tried to make some decent fake ones? And it's paid content too... So not really acceptable.

Well noted - especially the Focus. That said, I drive cockpit and so liveries though cool, don’t make or break the deal for me personally.

Wish we could at least get the Dirt 4 livery editor... all of the liveries that aren't based on real ones are so low-effort it's just sad (one flat color, and 2 or 3 sponsor logos - and the rest are no better than something we could make with the Dirt 4 editor.) Also, the ones that come with Season 1 are really bad, too. Seriously if you're going to advertise liveries as part of the DLC, CM, at least put a little effort into them.

I think the ones that come as DLC are meant to be a base colour scheme. The problem is that us console peasants cant create our own liveries to add to the game like the PC master race can.

I will give anything for livery editor like the one that exists in Forza M.

Or even second option, that Codemaster put on fake brands/companies, would be better than having black Focus?!?! It's a rally game.

The liveries in dirt 1 were miles better, seems to be no effort put into dirt 2.0, some cars are green, orange or dark red, awful. The liveries on the mk 2 escort in dirt 1 were brilliant, not official but brilliant fake ones

This is a topic that has been subject of discussion in DR1. Some official liveries (if not all), require licensing and in some cases (if not all) this licensing requires money.

Money that would be, in many people's understanding, better invested in new cars rather than new colors. These liveries can always come later, either via DLC or via modding (except for consoles where modding isn't viable).

I get that but at least they could make the non official liveries look real, doesn’t even have to have real sponsors , the best thing in dirt rally 4 was the livery editor imo

If we become inundated with cars that are new to the series then that would be a good trade-off. But at the moment most the new dlc cars are from the first game.

If of course some of the cars discussed in the Gossip thread end up in the game then  the money saved on liveries will have been well worth it.

I understand that licensing official liveries is difficult and expensive but some better quality fantasy liveries could have been made. The four paintjobs for the Focus must have been made under 2 minutes. (Load template, change base color, paste one big logo onto the hood two smaller onto the doors, export file, repeat 3 times, job done!)

I usually comment about DR2 in a positive manner but those liveries scream negligence.

I cant believe that there is not a single person at Codies with basic Photoshop skills who has a couple of free hours and actually has minimal interest how the cars look like in their product, DR2.0.

Even better would be somehow implement the livery editor from Dirt4 to DR2.0.

Not to mention that all the time seems to have been spent making the latest Impreza look good while neglecting the Focus, which looks half finished.

Yeah, I noticed it too. The 3D model of the Subaru is much detailed and cleaner, somehow it looks sharper. Really well done! The Focus is not the same quality, it's like from an X360 game.

I wonder if it’s just a copy paste from Dirt Rally 1... minus 1 gear of course... and a livery... lol

That seems quite possible.

I think i mentioned all this in my op. i know licensing requires money, which i said i would pay for happily in a DLC for instance. but with current sale numbers i guess that wont raise too much, so probably wont happen. But a few decent fake ones would be cool as well! (the ones we have now are nothing more than **** to half decent imo). As some mentioned here a livery editor would be the best!  but honestly i dont see that coming as well.  i really hope codemasters have some cool stuff for us still to come regarding liveries.

This is perhaps due to the fact that the Focus 2007 is picked from D4 or DR1 and the Subaru Impreza 2008 WRC is making its first appearance in the games.

This is no reason to neglect the other car anyway. But to be honest I don't find the Focus so neglected. It has much to do with the plain livery. Car modeling has always been of great quality in Codemasters games.

@thatDutchguy83 Well the fact is that not many bothered to use the livery editor enough in D4 for it to become a time dump in DR2's development. There's also the case with some cars not allowing in their license different color schemes. So basically these cars wouldn't be available for the livery editor feature.

Yes i guess thats true.. and to be fair there are a bunch which are really good like the Manta, C4, impreza's, EVO and Fabia f.e.  there's just a few that lack any decent designs imo and the latest Focus is a prime example.

Well, 1) what are you basing this on? I loved using the livery editor. It wasn't like the ones in Forza or Gran Turismo where you pretty much have to be a skilled artist if you want to create something besides a few stripes and some logos. Choosing from several patterns is simple and takes 3 minutes to do for anyone.

2) It was already developed... for Dirt 4. Sure there would have been some work involved in using it in DR2 because any new car models need skins to be set up for it, but overall it seems like a waste to have ditched it completely when it worked so well.

And for the cars that are licensed without other livery options, well.. so what? There are only a tiny handful of those, so just lock them out from livery editing. It seems like you're bending over backward to defend the laziness on display for the liveries, lol...

The liveries with some exceptions of the Quattro and heat for hire manta are really not that creative, especially me personally miss the rothmanns colors for the opel/ford, and the martini for the Lancia, I understand the point of “no license” etc. but the creative part at the Codemasters could make some liveries that are at least similar as those.

Either Codemasters creates a system that allows console players to import files to reproduce licensed content (like kits in Pro Evolution Soccer) or they put some more effort into making liveries "believable". What we certainly cannot have is what happened with the Focus and its uninspired, or rather utterly shameful set of liveries

Well at least now we have a complete white and black livery for each car... but really.. why would i want that !? smh.  then at least give us all basic colors on a wheel or something...  this is litterally worth nothing imo.
