PC stage loading times reduction?

Recommended Posts

Doesn't do anything for me. HDD and Pentium G4560. 42 seconds load time with or without it.

It is a pity that the affinity of the CPU has so little attention from users.

On my ssd 860 evo loadings times is halved.

Doesn't seem to work for everyone, but still worth trying out for sure.

Was posted to reddit and this guy with a Ryzen 1700x says it did nothing for his long loads. And above Pistro here with the Pentium G4560, although not sure if that's just the mechanical HDD holding him back. Perhaps core/thread count has something to do with it in addition to SSD? Mine is a 4core/8thread 4790k cpu, that Ryzen is 8core/16thread, and that Pentium is 2core/4thread afaik.

Still curious to know why it has any effect at all for some configs, I've never seen adjusting the cpu affinity have such an impact on load times before. Performance/fps up or down a bit, yeah. Never this sort of thing. It makes no sense to me.

It will be for each invidual, you can find out from the file - hardware_settings_config.xml.

Path: C:\Users\Xxx\Documents\My Games\DiRT Rally 2.0\hardwaresettings\

Works on AMD FX-8350, GTX1060FTW and Samsung 840 Pro SSD. On stuttering and load times. Thank you.

Doesn't work for me. Maybe it's because I have the game installed on a HDD (like all my other games) but I thought my i7-7700HQ would help.

No change for me from around 25-30 seconds on G4560 + SSD + 1060 6GB - i'm used that load time, gives me time to psyche into the drive. The loading is more CPU heavy that actual driving so the G4560 is fine for play - solid 60fps @ 2560x1440 on medium/high (+ low ground cover for optimum cutting 🙂

Guys, I've been using Process Lasso (free version) for several weeks for this task with great success. The image below is how I have it setup - regardless of core count you want to disable core 0. I also found ticking "More strictly enforce default affinities" was necessary to make sure it worked every time. (I have a Core i7 6700K overclocked to 4.6)

ProcessLassoDR2.JPG.70f47d9bb6a269a83b7e8cfa1ca9074d.JPG

Process Lasso is completely free for this purpose, and provides other nice advantages to prevent your system from being hijacked by frozen processes. If you just want to use if for affinity application you can turn off all the other functions.

In terms of load performance, yeah it makes a massive difference! I have DR2 installed on a PCIe NVMe drive (Samsung 950Pro 512Gb) which should make the game load crazy fast, but I was still getting load times between 55 to 85 seconds without the tweak! With the tweak my average load time is 18-20 seconds per stage.

On my pretty average setup and regular ssd the maps load in 10 to 15 seconds without any of these tweaks. I tried to change affinity before and see if it would improve loads even further but nothing changed.

Today's patch (1.6) seemed to fix the load times so this 'trick' is no longer needed. Pretty nice!

Thank you, Codemasters!

Only thing left for me is to get that rumble trigger support for Xbox One pads like the recent F1 games.

Hmm..

I played a bit of the Steam version on my work machine (checking some post-patch stuff) and I had rumble triggers. Base Xbox One controller, USB connection.

I'd say you're mistaken based on all the evidence out there, but if that's true then that's some even bigger garbage that needs addressing asap.

The impulse triggers do not function at all over USB or wireless with Xbox One S pads in the PC version Dirt Rally 2, there's also no setting in the options to enable / disable it like the last few F1 games from Codemasters...

If you search out the feature, all you'll find is people saying they don't work and asking for support for them.

etc

The only way to get any vibration on the triggers in this game is to force ALL vibration feedback used in the game with these dlls https://www.reddit.com/r/dirtgame/comments/byd3pq/how_to_get_controller_triggers_to_sort_of_rumble/ , which isn't ideal at all. It's busted.

Thanks for doing the research. I'll check my Steam version again; it may simply have been muscle memory making me think that it was there.

[edit: You're right. I was mistaken, sorry for the mixup]
