F1 2018 AI skill

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I used the search function, but couldn`t really come up with something specific. As I just came back to this game 5 weeks ago with a long F1 break in between, I am asking you guys, which skill level are you using for your career?

I would say I have a good understanding of F1 games as I have good history in this matter (started with the good old Grand Prix 2, followed by GP3 and then the EA Sport F1 games, my last one was F1 2010)

Right now I am playing on the PS4 with the Nacon Rev Pro controller – no space or understanding by the women for a wheel 😉 so I am restricted to a pad.

My first season is nearly over, just Abu Dhabi left, with Sauber and skill level 80 – 8th in drivers ranking, Leclerc is 7th. 50% racing distance. Using realistic cockpit view.

I felt quite comfortable with those settings.

Is there a “major” skill level by the AI, where people say, this is closest to realism?

Cheers and feels good to be back J with a break of several years this game feels pretty amazing.

ok after some research I found out that 100 is the closest to realism, damn that is tough now the increase from 80 to 100...

I put the AI at 103, I just started a new career and finished 6th in a McLaren in the first Australia GP which was quite an enjoyable challenge, I genuinely felt the cars disadvantage in comparison to the top 3 teams and had to fight tooth and nail for 6th, it was quite rewarding.

I was doing the esports events the other week on AI 110 and the lap times where impossibly low, they where lapping ~8s a lap faster than the real cars which is beyond skilled sim driving and into the realms of perfecting and leveraging game mechanics IMO.  It doesn't feel realistic when you're lapping 10% faster than true pace, it was achievable but felt fake.

finished 6th with a McLaren on 103? That is quite impressive. Are you driving with Pad or Wheel? I just changed this from 80 to 100 in my last race Abu Dhabi with my Sauber, Qualifying 10th (old value) - Race, 20th 😄 they showed me where I am. Changed in my second season now to Renault, the car has better values than Sauber, so let`s see how Australia works out, will start tonight. With standard setup I was able to hit a 1:25:XXX so let`s see when I find my setup where I will end up.

I slightly decreased it to 95 now, no chance in Melbourne at all with the Renault...I think I have tried 5 different setups, with perfect laps followed, I just did not have the speed, no chance. Either the problem is here I drive with the gamepad and assists on (traction control, ABS, automatic shift) or I do not know, any other reason I did not figured out yet. I`ve tried to switch off the assists, but with the pad it is to tough for me to handle everything. SO let`s see now how Bahrain will work, normally I am pretty good in those tracks with fast long corners.

I really wouldnt worry about whats realistic in real life compared to your skill level. But if your with renault then you want a realistic difficulty so your pace is in line with where car should be.

For me 90-95 is my pace where I am realisic and with williams I usually beat stroll but 3 or 4 tenths but struggle to beat anyone else. Usually I aim for two tenths if I am perfect but its stroll 😂

Just did training and Qualifying in Bahrain now, after Training sessions I needed to go down to 92, could manage Position 11 in the grid at the end.. I just compare my Team mate and e.g. Toro Rossos and stuff, on 95, Hulkenberg was more than a second faster than me, and I made perfect laps and different setups, couldn`t get near. Next thing is you cannot complete training programs as the times are also on that difficulty....So now, this is ok for me, I can live with Pos 11, but it is driving on the limit. I think you just able to compete here without assists, as I said, not possible with a gamepad for me.

With a Mercedes I would have managed a 1:28:666 on Bahrain, this would have gotten me under the top 5, so skill level 92 should it be now, no more changes.

Exactly. It doesn't really matter: the most realistic setting is the one where you get the most realistic result. I use 107 as a base, but have to tone it slightly down to 105-106 for several tracks an up to 108-109 for others.

I found myself pretty comfortable with 92, the times the CPU drives are pretty realistic and I hardly make it to points with my Renault, always tough exciting races - normally I compare the qualifying results then with a timed lap in a Mercedes and check where I would have been with this car - so all fine, it would fit for the top spots and nearly with equal times like the CPU.

I think this is the most I can get with a pad and assits on, for every other higher AI skill I would need to switch off assists (TC,automatic shift)
