Too much difference in difficulty between practice, qualification & race?

Recommended Posts

I’ve seen there are other posts partially dealing with the same subject,  however I decided to write up my own.

I am a casual gamer that only occationally plays racing games. I have a G29 using the assist setting experienced and the AI set to 50 (I know I’m brave admitting this here). I went with Alfa Romeo in career mode and in Australia finished all the more difficult practise tasks without any problem. In qualification I ended up in 4:th place with a good but not perfect lap. This told me that perhaps I should up the AI difficulty since pole shouldn’t really be within reach for Alfa Romeo. Still I went on to the race keeping 50.

Here comes my first problem. I cannot get a good start. I’ve tried watching videos and reading the forums but still no luck. If I loose 3-4 positions in the start I am happy, but most of the times I end up around position 9-10. I remember something about choosing start assist in the career setting if this can have anything to do with the problem? I’ve seen that I have the clutch mapped to shift up, but it really doesen’t make much difference if I use it or not. Tried different starting rpm:s without luck. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some tips on how to tackle the starts on these difficulty settings.

My next problem is the race pace. While being really competetive in qualification, I have trouble keeping up in the race. After my pit stop and when the car starts to be lighter I improve a bit and can actually advance some places. But I honestly don’t understand the gap in difficulty between qualification and race. Are there some alternative car setups I should try, or is it just me that feels this way? In that case all I can do is to buckle up and start training.

Thought I should end on a positive note. I feel that the AI is a bit less agressive this year. While still going for the overtake, at least I don’t get constantly turned around this year. A noticable and appreciated difference to the 2018 version in my opinion.

I personally feel like the AI are better in qualifying than the race, but I think the AI might actually not be better at either I think its just the player is generally better at one thing than the other cos I do league racing and im fine in the race but generally start last from qualifying, bu thats just my opinion

Agree, this needs to be looked at, either CM adjust the AI or give us more options to AI difficulty.

I made a thread about one of many possible solutions to fix this for the players:
