Used set of tires during the race in F1 2019

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that when you do a complete qualifying and 25% race, during the race gives you used set of tires even if you reserved new sets during qualifying. This is just ridicolous and frustrating. At one race, the game gave me a 50% set of tires while the AI had a new and shiny set, obviusly, in the race I couldn't do a ****. Please dear Codemasters, fix it, this bug takes away the desire to play.

If you make it to q3 you have to do the first stint of the race on the tires you set your fastest lap on in q2.  Two problems occur because of this.

1. The tire wear model for qualifying is currently applying 4x wear to the tires in a full session like it would it the race when it should only be 1x.  I’m sure they’re aware of this as they’ve had problems with and fixed this in the last 2 games I think, 2018 for sure though.  Possible fixes: Try short qualifying, it might not be as bad (just a guess) or 1-shot qualifying you should be ok with that to.  Also it might be possible to have the race distance set at 100% for practice then qualifying, then after you finish qualifying on the loading screen when you can push the option button to open the menu where you change ai difficulty. Then turn in back down to 25% and proceed to the race.  A final solution is do 50 or 100% races.  I do 50’s and it’s not as much of a problem but I think that it’s still there though.  Obviously 100% races would fix it but this can be very time consuming and isn’t probably practical for you or you’d already be doing it.

2. Which is less likely but does happen from time to time.  You accidentally did another run on the tires you set your fastest lap on in q2, maybe at the end of q2 and didn’t improve or maybe as a banker lap in q3.  Back in 2017 after you set a lap in q2 it would tell you which set you set your fastest time on so you didn’t accidentally use them again later.  In 2018 it went away and no longer tells you so you just kinda gotta remember.  I made this mistake once or twice back then which made for a long race.

I’m inclined to believe you’re suffering from the first problem so maybe try the 100% trick in a dummy career in case you get stuck doing a 100% race this way you won’t either ruin or have to do a 100% race to keep that career going.  Aside from that just wait it out and maybe create some backstory in your head that whatever team you’re on is really struggling for tire wear this year and they’re working on a fix but it’ll take some time so for now you just have to deal with it...lol idk I do this kinda stuff all the time for my career, just use your imagination, and try not to let a few little niggles ruin what is overall a good package!

From the rules & regulations page at the formula1 website:

"Drivers who make it through to Q3 must hand back the set of the softer compound tyres nominated for Q3, and start the race on the tyres with which they set their fastest time in Q2. All other drivers will be able to use the set that is saved for Q3 during the race."

I guess you managed to get into Q3 so you started the race with the tires with you set your fastest time in q2.
