Problems with ERS Deployment

Recommended Posts

I experience a lot of problems with the ERS-deployment in career mode. I’m using the automatic deployment since I’m using a PS4 controller, which makes it hard (or even almost impossible) to switch between the different levels of deployment while also steering.

The automatic deployment causes a situation at which I don’t have any ERS left when entering the last corner, or even before the last one.

Are more people experiencing the same problem? Or is there a simple solution which I did not recognize until now?

Would be great to get some help.

Thanks in advance

Auto ers uses a lot of mode 4 ers when battling for position and mode 4 uses more than the ers Deployment limit. There’s is the downside of automatic sadly. I never use auto but I’m a wheel guy so it’s easier. Sounds tricky for gamepad users sadly. 😔

Yes it actually does. But also in qualifying modus, where it uses mode 5, it’s empty before the end of the lap. I did Catalunya a few moments ago for example, and right before the chicane it was already empty.

And with a controller, it’s hard to manage steering and switching simultaneously... hope they will adjust it in the next update or so..

Here's a tip for you if you want to switch to manual ers. Go to the controller button assignments in the options and set the R3 button as ERS increase. That way you can decrease the ers mode with the left button on the D pad before entering a corner and increase it with R3 when exiting a corner. Normally I think the R3 button is assigned to voice chat in multiplayer or something like that but you can assign another button for it. You can also set the L3 button as ers decrease which will help you decrease your ers while turning. I always used manual ers and it was a pain using the D Pad but when I tried the above tip it helped me a lot.

Yeah I use manual ERS. It's just something I like having direct control over. Actually got stuck with Auto playing online and got really annoyed that the game stuck me with it.

This maybe intentional in Catalunya. Hotlap mode is supposed to be optimal deployment over one lap. On that track i can imagine it is more useful in other areas than at the chicane, the last corner and then the short run to the line

Good tip. I'd also recommend unbinding the replay/flashback and 'next camera' buttons as you can select these from the options menu, you don't need these while driving so remap these for ERS up/down or even fuel mix. Also if you feel that looking left and right isn't the most important thing, the right stick can give you 3 more assignable options in those directions, including "up" direction which doesn't do anything normally

When I play with the pad I use the following button layout:

R1: ERS up

L1: ERS down

R stick ->  Fuel mix up

R stick  <- Fuel mix down

R stick   ^ Temp panel shortcut

R stick down; Look behind

R3: Tyre wear panel shortcut

L3: Race engineer.

Touchpad: Nothing atm, could still be used for camera changes or replay/flashback.

The rest is the default buttons for gear changes DRS and the MFD.

With this layout its very easy to change settings while racing as you don't have to reach and stretch your fingers for any buttons. Even though I sacrificed look left/right on the stick to change fuel mix I definitely feel that's worth it.

Thanks for the tips guys. Will try to use the buttons to use manual ERS, will cost some time probably but in the end it will be better

Just one more question. If i’m using manual ERS, is there a sort of avarage which I should be aiming for? So for example, in free air the average will be the second mode, or is it much better to increase and decrease throughout the whole race when braking / accelerating?

First race manual didn’t work out quite well. I had to drive in mode 1 for almost 75% of the race, while only used mode 3/4/5 in the first lap... weird.

I also experience a drop of AI difficulty. Was able to drive on 102% in 2018, now dropped to 90%... probably going to watch some ERS clips on youtube 🤷🏼‍♂️

It takes some getting used to, but you have to change modes a lot during the lap to manage it. Ideally; don't use the higher modes for an entire lap but only on the straights. You can charge battery by going to lower modes in slower sectors and corners.

For example at Suzuka I run 0 or 1 for the whole first sector ( because it's so many corners and you can't really overtake ), I switch to medium for sectors 2, and switch to 3 or sometimes 4 when I reach the two big straights at the end of the lap.
