Different Quali and Race pace in Career mode

I am currently in season 2 of my career and driving for Ferrari (2nd in performance). 

I am experiencing an incredible difference between the qualifying and race pace from the AI. I can barely go through Q1 but I can fight for the podium during the race. Am I the only one experiencing such a difference? (98 difficulty). 

With the same settings and difficulty I do not experience such a difference in the normal Grand Prix mode.
