Blinking rate of the Red Backlight, F1 20XX

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

@TheEmpireWasRight, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

We’ve taken your feedback to the dev team, and whilst this is something we are not going to be looking over within the F1 2019 cycle, we are going to be taking your ideas into consideration for future titles .

I understand this is not the best news, but this is an clear answer for me, because No is also an answer. I prefer to know this then the silent treatment from CM.

We, the gamers, will monitor this request for the next game i am sure :classic_biggrin:

Here's a video of how the ingame blinking rate of the Red Backlight is being shown by CM during wet weather conditions, basically it is the same rate throughout the whole lap, which is wrong if compared to irl footages:

The blink rate isn't off by that much compared to IRL. It's something they should try and adjust in 202 to include making sure that ERS of this hybrid is doing what it's supposed to do in a very game efficient manner.

The ers lights don’t blink at all on lap 1 in F12019

09:47 - 10:00, this is the current state of the Blinking Red Backlight in F1 2020 ("Work in Progress Build" for the YT content creators on May 13, 2020).

It seems as if the blinking rate is still fixed at a constant rate and not gradual. Although, it is blinking at a much faster rate than in F1 2019, which is good, it is far from perfect.

As long as it does not have a gradual increase of how fast it blinks, during cornering and full throttle action on the straights, it is incorrectly implemented.

In real life video footages we can clearly see that the Red Backlight is blinking very slowly during slow speeds / during slow and medium speed corners. But once on a straight / full throttle, the Red Backlight starts to gradually blink faster and faster until it reaches the maximum speed / rate of blinking:

Of course this is still "Work in Progress", however, it'd be great if this was corrected and improved.

Hopefully Codemasters can have another look into this.

From a code perspective, it would depend whether the added code (and use of resources) is worth linking the blinking rate to the speed of the car.  Being at a constant rate means less going on in the background, but this honestly can't be a high strain on any system.  😛

I agree and i am happy you touched this topic again, but now for F1 2020.  I hope Codemasters is having a look at the blinking lights and how they work in real life F1 race, so this can be done correctly for the 2020 game, as for 2019 game it was skipped and @BarryBL told us any idea will be looked at for future titles.

F1 2020 is out, and the blinking rate of the red backlight is still not correctly implemented:

It should be gradual and linked to the overall speed of the car, increasing the blinking rate accordingly, if realism and accuracy was the goal.

In F1 2020 the game though, it is somehow fixed at a constant blinking rate, that does not speed up or slow down according to the cars velocity. Possibly either due to the fact that such a sensible change in the code could negatively impact the ingame performance, or maybe it is simply "too much work" and will be resolved later.

Hope to get a update if anything changed and whether or not we could expect a fix during the active lifetime of F1 2020, or if it is still a project for the future.

PS: Here's a vid to showcase how it looks like irl.

05:24 onwards, you can clearly see how the blinking rate should be designed, gradual.

New year, new game, but still same issue? :classic_unsure:

@BarryBL you have taken it into consideration, and it still did not make it for 2020 game?
