DiRT Rally - Out Now

Let’s talk DiRT.

First I want to say thank you, all you guys and girls have been awesome these last few years. You’ve been telling us what you want for what seems like forever, over on the forum there is a next DiRT game wishlist that actually predates the release of DiRT 3. There have been comment threads on gaming websites telling us were we went wrong and hundreds of posts each day on Twitter and Facebook telling us exactly what you want. That’s how awesome you guys are, you’ve been our inspiration and got us through some tough times. So thank you.

Today starts a new chapter in DiRT history; today we’re doing something that scares the absolute crap out of us, but in a good way. Today we’re not only announcing a new DiRT game but we’re making it available as an early access title on Steam... SURPRISE!

If you literally can’t wait any longer to get your hands on it then you’ll find it right here, but while it’s downloading I want you to come back and read about why we’re doing this and more importantly how you can help.

Welcome back, so why Early Access? There are a number of reasons but mainly because we want to make sure we get this right. You’ve been asking us for a game that is pure rally with none of the fluff, one that has more stages, longer stages and repairs in between stages. You’ve told us how you want your own team, to be able to set the car up how you want and to feel like you own the car you’re driving. We want to deliver that game.

So, right now at the start of Early Access this is what you are getting for your money.

17 Cars - Having hundreds of cars doesn’t interest us, rally is about having the right car and we intend on having all of the right cars. These 17 are just to get us started and we’ll be adding more cars over more classes as the year goes on.

36 Stages – Winding paths through forests, death defying drops off hillsides and narrow mountain paths are what this is all about, it’s you and your car VS the road ahead. To get us started we’ll be heading to the muddy paths  of Wales, the dusty trails of Greece and the icy tarmac of the legendary Monte Carlo rally.

A-Synchronous Events – Take on the world in Daily, Weekly and Monthly challenges. These are the ultimate tests of skill and determination and it’s going to take everything you have to finish on top.

Simulation handling – We’ve accurately recreated how every part of the car works and to support this we’ve developed a brand new physics model which simulates everything from the way the surface of the road behaves to limited slip differentials. This is how cars drive and with real-world rallying experience on the team, a deep understanding of car setup and handling, countless visits from the worlds of rally and rallycross plus the help of our friends in the community we've got the handling as right as we can.

Team Management – Hire and fire your crew members each of whom which will have different skills, improving repair times for different parts of the car. Teach them new skills as they gain experience and work together as a team to improve your performance in events.

League Support – Get together with friends and run your very own racing league. You can join up to six leagues at any one time and run them how and when you want. For more information on setting up and joining a racing league visit dirtgame.com

And as a thank you for supporting us during Early Access we are giving you a special DiRT Rally livery for the Subaru Impreza 1995.

We won't be charging anything for that new content, regardless of when you join us you'll have access to everything we produce for our early access period at no extra cost. So that’s what we’ve made and this is just the starting point. Over the coming months we’ll be adding more cars, more tracks, new game modes and features we haven’t even thought of yet – features that you are going to think of and help us build.

This is where you come in, we need your feedback, we want to know what you love, what you hate, what’s broken, what can we improve and we want you to start throwing new ideas at us.

You can do that in any number of ways; follow us on Twitter, Like us on Facebook, join us on our forums, follow us on Twitch, Subscribe to our YouTube, post in the Steam community hub, subscribe to our subreddit and keep up to date with everything on dirtgame.com.

We know Steam Early Access isn’t for everybody; a lot of you are going to be disappointed that you can’t play DiRT Rally right now but we want you to still feel a part of it and where we’re going. Join in with everything we’re doing, watch other players YouTube videos and Livestreams, talk to the people who are playing it and tell us what you want. You’re not excluded from any of this and your thoughts and ideas about what we’re up to are just as important.

We won’t lie this is going to be a long road, and we’re fully expecting to hit a few rocks but hey that’s rally! We’re confident that with your help we can make DiRT Rally the greatest racing game anybody has ever made.

Keep it lit.

Does it support Half-Over-Under (aka. Top-bottom) 3D?

Does it support TXAA antialiasing?

Any chance of F1 201x being Early Access in the future?  I think community feedback would really help iron out some of the bugs we've seen in the past.

Ok so I just read (heard actually) that its using EGO engine V3, same as Dirt 3.  My initial feeling was of disappointment that it won't be on V4 same as F1 2015.  But then I began to think about a few things that were not carried over from Dirt 2 to Dirt 3, namely the excellent windscreen mud and water splash effects.  So I'm wondering if we are to get at least the best of this returned to Dirt rally?.

DiRT 3 used the updated Ego 1 engine.

My mistake.  Just making the point though that Dirt Rally isn't using the latest engine, but hoping we get the best effects possible from both Dirt 2 and 3.

Downloading right now. Can't wait too see how this compares to RBR and Dirt 3. Also good to see that consoles are on the list down the road. Hopefully enough people like it for you guys to make it worth to expand to consoles. If so then this could be the big turnaround for CM!

Will be buying soon, but this couldn't come at a worse time for me  :s Got to finish my Uni major project first!

Looks like in a few weeks i'll have a lot of gaming to do, this, GTAV, Project Cars and you can never have enough Assetto Corsa.

Also D3! Now that the devil has been removed from it...

Just emailed this to a friend:

Since they just moved DiRT3 to Steam, and gave away all the DLC for free, I've been playing that a lot, so have a good baseline to compare to.  I started DiRT Rally with my DiRT3 wheel settings (G27), and in the 60's MINI Cooper S it was giving my wheel much more of a workout than DiRT3.  Will need to turn down to reduce the noise and keep my girlfriend happy.  I was quite impressed with the force feedback through.  Definitely had a good feel for what the car was doing, and felt especially cool when the car got some air and the steering went light.  Menu's/options are very similar to DiRT3, so parts of it don't feel that new.  Graphics are quite improved (though maybe I was expecting a little more), but with max settings on my GTX980 @ 1440p (ROG Swift), I saw FPS in the 50's at times.  Maybe just not optimized yet?  I had no complaints over the arcade/sim balance of DiRT3, but this definitely feels more sim like, and I struggled on my first rally..... even finished the stage without a right rear tire haha.  Annoyingly, the co-pilot isn't talking yet, so I don't know what turns are coming up (when will that be implemented).  That might have been the bulk of the struggles.

Just one stage so far, so consider that VERY early impressions.

I FREAKIN' LOVE U GUYS!!!

Downloading, I'll comunicate my experience of the game later this week! I'll be comparing this to RBR and Asseto Corsa, but from what I saw over the Internet it looks decent physics wise!

Modding should be there, don't forget the modding :pensive:

Cheers

My initial impressions on DiRT Rally after having spent a good hour and a half of my evening watching the Twitch stream and several other gameplay videos is nothing but a huge grin on my face. It looks absolutely bloody fantastic and so damn glad about the direction you've taken with the game. It's basically what the core fans have been asking for since DiRT2 and 3. Tracks look tight, technical and lengthy enough, physics definitely appear to be on the simulation side of things and the UI is very simple and slick.

@justbiglee, @KickUp and the rest of the DiRT Team, you have my full support day one when this hits the consoles. I wish you guys all the best and sincerely hope that Early Access works out for you.

There are 5 Group B cars right now. No Group S but they will be adding a lot of cars later so maybe. Have to say really really good job guys! Really takes you back to the good CMR 2 days with preperation and reperations in between the stages! Physics feel really good (although the FFB feels a bit dead in the center sometimes (My TX wheel isn't officially supported yet) but I will test more later and try some other settings.) Really a good base to build on!
