DiRT Rally feedback list

Recommended Posts

I'll be glad to see in final version
More mud, dirt and dust on the cars, especially after rain and snow, like in Dirt 3.
More particle effects from under the wheels: splashes of puddles, foliage, particles of snow (e.g. Monte Carlo)
More maps: Sweden, Finland, Africa Kenya, Australia/New Zealand, Japan, Argentina, tarmac stages (e.g. France/Spain) and Super Special stages Head 2 Head.
Cars from 90s: Subaru Legacy RS, Lancer Evo 5/6, Toyota Celica 165/185.

P.S. Thanks for this game! I've been waiting for it!

The auto reset's becoming a real nuisance now... Really need to extend time and space, or remove it altogether... The steering is randomly really twitchy. Makes it hard to make wider turns or simply reposition the car on the road without spinning or losing control or flying off the stage.

Yesterday, the game crashed about a minute into a replay, after which Steam started "finishing installation" and then gave me that oh so infamous error code 41.

I don't believe the inclusion of Dakar would be good for this version.
I have to agree , the focus at the moment is rally , rallycross and hilclimb .. The inclusion of a new category as large as the Dakar would result in much time spent .. Maybe in a new game.

My new favorite game.  It has been a blast so far!
Pros:
  • Great Graphics
  • Good Sound effects
  • Awesome rally feel with finally good and long tracks.
Would Like to see:
  • would like to have better FFB with the wheel im using a Thrustmaster T500rs and it just feels very limp and I have all the the settings set to max!  Just doesnt feel like its fighting me enough.  Also when you catch air the wheel doesnt  feel free and then jerk and stiffen back up when you hit the road again. Id imagine most players on PC are using a wheel and this would be a major benefit to the realism/fun factor for the game.
  • Would love to see crash sequences like the (rallisport challenge 2) game.  In that game it was quite realistic as the windows would smash out, doors would fly off/hood/trunk and bumpers and if  they didnt fall off they would be flapping around or dragging along. That was one of the highlights in that game that made it so much fun.
  • Would also like to see fans running across the road and getting more involved like flipping the car over if its upside down.  Also animals on the road or on the side like birds that fly off or deer running across the road or even Kangaroos hopping across for whenever Australian tracks are made.
  • After starting the game from pause I would like to see a 3 second count down before it resumes game play.
  • Getting to race your ghost or someone else's ghost that's better than you.
Overall so far this is such a great and fun game.  Still cant believe its early access and its this good already.  Cant wait for the updates!!!!

For a real rally simulator:
-Remove "Recovers Car"
.-To Work still very on the physic
-When I insert the a wrong gear the motor must merge

But if Codemasters wants the usual arcade.....Adieu my dream

physics and transmission i agree. on removing recovery i think we need to have a bit wider view here, i mean i would love to have it as much difficult and hard as possible , i like challenges, especially on pad :D  but on the other hand if they'll do game too difficult they lose a lot of "normal" players i do not expect there is a lot of "petrol heads", i mean ... i guess on this forum yeah it can be a lot of you :) but in general . So i think best way would be to make as much as possible customization via options so everyone can enjoy the game, in the end they want to make money like everyone :)

cheers

Im still waiting since years for an proper replay mode with save function and a  photo mode. I dont need any stylish color filter and what ever I only want to have a free flight camera with zoom and thats it.
This is at the top of my list too.  Not sure why there is no save replay, really kills it that I have to watch it immediately after and record it (via shadowplay) to keep it preserved.  Cameras... Don't get me started

I'm a big fan of these games, I've been playing them all of my life - and the first thing to say is that this is AWESOME!
Like many on this thread, I am an RSRBR player too, and I can see why many people compare the two - both games are the best rally sims out there (and yes, I am even including sims like rFactor). What I would personally like to see is more of what RSRBR has: the cars, the stages, the customisable options (e.g. tyre choice, AI difficulty). Right now, DiRT Rally and RSRBR are the two best sims out there - if the Codies work like Rallyesim (the team behind RSRBR) has in the development of their sim (perhaps adding some features like online championships (which RSRBR has)), this game will go from one of the best to perhaps the best rally sim out there!

Cars I would like to see:
  • 2001 WRC Season (Colin's Focus, Richard Burns' Impreza etc.)
  • 2014/15 WRC Season (newer Fiesta, VW Polo, DS3, i20)
  • Early and late 90s WRC (Other generations of Impreza, Subaru Legacy (maybe?), Ford Escort, Ford Focus (1999 version) and more)

Another suggestion for the replay camera, i agree with some of the posts already made i.e. make replays like real tv coverage but i would also like to see some mobile phone recordings/amateur footage from the spectators in replays. Like in real rallying the spectators get paid (i think) for any clips that the tv cameras don't pickup. Bit of wobbly hand held footage of you going off at a corner, think that would be awesome.

Hello !

I’m a RSRBR player aswell, and i must say that i  really enjoy the game so far. I wasn’t expecting for a new rally simulation and your game suprised me in such a positive way !

Pros :

  • Great graphics in general and effects
  • Amazing sounds effects
  • Really interesting and convincing stages and rally in general. It’s the better thing for me in this game. I really hope you will keep on this good work !
  • The jump start possibility and the puncture possibility
  • The engineer stuf etc.

Cons :

  • I think that the cars lack of weight transfer. I should be able to make a proper pendulum flick and to take a very tight corner without the handbrake and i can’t really do it for now.
The brakes are kind of weird : they kill a lot of speed (too much actually) but i can’t play with the weight of the car with it. I can’t really throw the car in a corner with a left foot braking and power drifting in the curves  with a 4x4 . The handbrake kill a lot of speed too.
  • Cars lack of power in general. It’s difficult to enter in a hairpin but even worse to get out ! The 2010’s 4x4 and the group b’s are too « kind » not nervous enough for me.
  • There is something with the grip too. When i put full gaz in an airpin i barely spin. Wet gravel isn’t very convincing either. It’s pretty hard for me to know if it’s a « lack of power » or « to much grip ».
  • The copilot isn’t very convincing, « organical » enough.
  • The recovery thing : let us get back on the road alone !
  • The edges of the roads are sometimes too stiff, the snow in monte carlo for example. It should lower our speed but it shouldn't eject us from the road.
  • We need a clutch !
  • There is way too much engine brake. With the mk2 it's ridiculous : 1st gear and full gaz then release the gaz and you stop like 5 meters after.
  • The animation of the pilot is very bad and we need more rotation in the wheel. Here a little exemple.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRslTv9FpZE

Would like to see :

  • Be able to save replays and have a proper replay mode
  • Hear the crowd on the stage and seeing some bootcamp fire at night ? More people in the sides of the road would be fun too (like in the 80’s).
  • I would like to have a recce mod. If you activate it you have a bonus  credit.

You run the stage with a recce car and when you’r in front of a curve you can choose in a list of angles ,distances, the amont of risk you can take in it with --/-/+/++ system, the conditions : slippery, icy etc) if it’s narrow or not etc. Of course we would have a list of choice in the straight an light corners aswell.

You are allowed to recce twice each stage ant that’s all. Then, in stage, when you crash, or with a button, you can put a mark at the position where you want to change your note and the end of the stage you can change your note where we puted the mark and only here.
  • I woulld like to drive after the finish point and before the start.
  • I would like to have "Le tour de Corse" rally and the Germany rally aswell !
  • Some room for modders !

List of car i would see :

Clio maxi Kit car

Porsche GT3 GT+

The others were already mentioned

Wouldn’t like to see :

Dakar

Keep going, take your time and your game will be the reference for 10 years !
(sorry for my english, i hope that everything is clear)

"Route de Turini" + "Col de Turini Départ"

Texture LOD/Mipmapping gets very low quality much too close to the driver. It's really obvious in exterior views. If there was an option to extend it much further into the distance that would be great!

Currently have an issue with severe stutter (run for random amount time, freeze for 1-3 seconds, then continue) on the first stage that I play when I run the game. It happens for the entirety of the first stage, but is generally fine after that. There are a few well spaced occurrences but it's 30 mins to an hour between those after that.

Working on getting a recording and dxdiag of that to you guys soon!

Are you using a keyboard ? I have the same problem, I wish someone would develop a gaming keyboard that uses keys similar to the buttons used in console controllers - the harder you press the more you accelerate/steer /break

I'm really enjoying the game so far! This is the best rally experience I've found in a game yet. Great work.

I just wanted to report a couple of issues.

I'm using a Logitech G25 wheel and for some reason my controls are intermittently being reset. I've had to reset the control scheme twice now as it will default back to keyboard. I can't seem to find a common trigger for the issue, aside from maybe using the Raptr video capture in those sessions. I'm exiting the game via the menu and it's not crashing. Other settings are fine, including advanced wheel settings and feedback.

I'm running in the forced view mode and am having issues hearing my co-driver. Once the revs get up, he's very difficult to hear over the engine. I've got the engine volume at 50% and voice at 100% and it's still giving me issues. Seeing as a rally team would be using in-helmet audio with earplugs, I don't agree with the other comments of this just being a realism feature. If I were on a stage and had this issue with my co-driver, I'd immediately look at the radio in service to fix it.

And, it's already on the list, but a custom livery option would be great. The Codemasters team makes some cool stuff, but giving players the freedom to create our own would allow for recreation of our real-life rally cars, etc and be very engaging.

I've found that there's no textures for damaged windscreen/windows, which means the glass cracking and other such damage is all actual damage done in engine! (in DiRT3 it was just a texture, which caused some difficulty for livery modders) Keep up the good work, Codies!

Only thing happening that I'm not used to is with the controls set to "Manual Sequential" the brakes don't shift into reverse, so I have to cycle through all the gears in reverse order before I can back onto the track.

I haven't read the thread yet but I haven't seen it mentioned in OP.

Also since this is my first Sim racer (had to see what all the hype is about) any sort of training mode or tutorial might be nice. I can't drift to same my life, but I don't actually know how to drift at all so I don't know what to practice. So far my only solution is to find a course with a hairpin near the start and restart the race each time I crash =/

Playing on a 360 controller, too. Don't have access to a race wheel and won't for a good long while.

Wheel animation matching real input.

Larger startlist. Different classes. I win my class but only finishes 12th overall for example.

I think its normal behavior for sequential mode, you should get used to it :) (not sure how it works in automatic mode maybe try this) but indeed now it's to slow so it can take a while. I've seen that its already on todo list so it should be fixed in future
- Better gear change time and ratio;

I've already said it in a post before, however I believe now, when it's still early and there's time, is when I need to stress the feedback I wish to get across and my main suggestion is: keep Career and Custom Event separate from each other.

Have the progression in Career for those who want objectives to complete or wish to climb the ladder towards a goal.

Have Custom Event with the best of everything (cars, upgrades, repair team) unlocked from the start, for those who simply wish to enjoy the driving experience and hop onto their favorite machine without "chores" to complete.

Thank you for your time.

Probably already mentioned, but we need more peripheral support.

I have a G27 but am not using the H-Shifter, so it's not hooked up to my PC. Every game restart, my bindings are reset. This doesn't happen if I bind at least one key to the keyboard. I believe by pressing enter at the main menu, bindings default to keyboard control. As mentioned, I have the Pause key set to "P". Seems to temporarily fix the issue.

Otherwise, I also have a DSD Buttonbox. Some bindings on it clash with the wheel buttons as they register the same input.

Hopefully key binding will be much easier to setup as the development progresses and petty issues such as controller resets and clashing will not be present.

Great job with the game so far. I'm a pad-wielding, chase-cam-using casual rally gamer who doesn't play any other types of racing games at all (don't enjoy racing against other cars). I think I've played all CMR games and every DiRT game besides Showdown, and the direction taken with DiRT Rally is definitely a positive one. I don't have any problems with the driving model and I think the game benefits from the removal of f.ex. flashbacks, but I do have some gripes after playing for 10 hours:

I really don't understand the idea behind Career mode difficulty curve. I finished an Open Championship as 3rd on my first attempt, and then again as 3rd at the Clubman level. Got moved to Professional series, and now it seems like I'm permanently stuck finishing on the 8-10th place every single time. I feel like the game moved me up the ranks way too fast, giving me more and longer events to drive and just enough credits to purchase RWD cars that feel way more difficult to control. Instead of feeling that I'm improving in the process, I feel like I'm getting worse.

It really is disheartening to always finish a stage about a minute behind the best time and to see yourself already being 10 seconds behind at the first checkpoint. Fighting against the clock on whether I'll finish 8th or 9th isn't really motivating at all, and getting enough dough to purchase a 4WD car seems like a distant dream. I've been playing these games long enough to know that I'm not going to get considerably better with the time investment I'm willing to put in, so "hang in there" isn't much of a consolation. Career mode needs a difficulty that you can select for yourself instead of one that the game decides is best for you (failing in the process).

Furthermore, the menus really need a single-press "repair suggested things and continue to next stage" button instead of having to go to the actual repairs page to trigger the suggested settings. The repair selection menu is just too complex for my liking, with way too much stuff to choose from. Same can be said for the Car Tuning settings - I don't have the slightest clue what to do there, and the help texts aren't really helpful at all. Worst of all, I'm afraid to tweak the settings at all since I know it's possible to mess up and make things harder for myself and I don't want to waste my time doing shakedowns.

I feel like the game could benefit from a more dumbed down difficulty option that wouldn't have any effect on the car handling, stage lengths or anything like that. In this mode the menus would be more streamlined with a couple of easy repair and tuning options more in line or the earlier CMR games (I remember liking the few available options in CMR1 back in the day), and the game wouldn't suddenly drop the player to a dead end difficulty-wise. The more sim-oriented menus with a plethora of stuff to tweak could still exist in higher difficulties.

Finally, a couple of minor things:
- The split timer shouldn't pop up in the middle of the screen, and it should be visible for a shorter period before reaching a checkpoint.
- Sometimes it takes 5-10 seconds for the game to realize you're actually stuck before bringing up the "reset vehicle" prompt.
- When racing close to trees with a chase cam, the camera distance sometimes yanks around wildly especially when cornering.
