DiRT Rally feedback list

Recommended Posts

Decrease grip. The best physics IMHO is Group B, where there is enough power to overcome the grip so you can actually do a powerslides. For example, Sierra RS500 om gravel nearly stalls when short shift under full throttle to second gear - unreal. Other then that, I am very happy where this is going,. Finally finally finally some good new rally game.

I'd like to see:

A time trial option that allows me to race any car/stage, see the online leaderboard and race the ghosts of my PB and anyone else I so choose.

More than one offline event to compete in at any one time. I'd like to pick and choose. Maybe there could be club and national events for me to choose between.

A 'Back' option in every screen. I shouldn't have to pass through several loading screens just to go back and select another option.

An option to quit the entire event regardless of where I am in it.

An option to select the TV or helicopter cameras only when viewing replays.

Some DiRT 2 soundtracks ;) My son commented that the soundtracks have gotten progressively worse! And he is right :)

First of all after playing for only 1 hour great graphics and design, I think we have all been waiting for something like this for a long time, it brings back the old days of playing the original CM or RBR.

Just a few things I think could be changed or fixed,

-The crowd doesn't seem lively enough, like 2 guys waving at the same time in sync. It would be nice to see them actually look at you when taking a picture or possibly hear them yell or run across the road.

- Crashing...The least possible thing you want to happen but when it does the CO driver has this miraculous skill of still being able to call out corners while upside down!  This in car visual/sound effects of hitting a tree or a window breaking could use some more detail for example head jolting/camera shack, and maybe a **** from the crew. Also, seeing the crowd move away from you as you fly into a turn to fast would cool too. On RBR the crowd would help flip the car back over or what not.

-Speed, even though if doesn't seem like your going fast until your sideways we need more stimulation for our senses on those long straight passes.

One last thing to add. I am having a hard time getting my car loose, no matter how much I tweak it, its just not enough. We should be able to adjust steering arm, sway and tires. Because most of us rally nuts like to turn with our foot not the wheel.

- Simulation, the less arcade the better.

Once the game is complete, polished, released as version 1.0, then after any necessary minor patches, I would be happy to pay extra for DLC containing all rally stages from all previous Colin McRae & Dirt titles, updated with better graphics of course ! I know a lot of people might complain about this as its nothing new but it would be nice to have all tracks in one game rather than needing 9+ different games installed

You do realise the RS500 is turbo charged? If you're short shifting then you'll come 'off boost' on the turbo, which is exactly how it was back when the car was competing as anti lag didn't exist.

Hallo from Me to the Community:

sry that i write in german but my english is too bad for this ^^'

nehme zum beispiel Evo IX ,Evo VIII (with the real sound pls!)

Have Fun !

I welcome the development of DiRT Rally for the PC and I sincerely wish it to be a success. I have 42 years driving experience IRL and in more recent years have played the GT, FM and Dirt series on consoles, but now focus mainly on Assetto Corsa. I use a wheel and pedals.
My observations of DiRT Rally:
No feel at the wheel (even with the fix available).
The driving experience suffers from an issue with grip/inertia/surface resistance. Cars slow themselves down too much and it is difficult to break traction even with 400bhp on gravel. This makes throttle steering impossible.
No manual clutch option.
Replay cameras are uncontrollable and most give nonsensical wasted views.
Replays cannot be saved.
No option for car setups.
Driving position not adjustable.
Superb graphics though.
Please don't make this another "optimised for the joypad and casual racer" title.

-agree.
Wow my temp ban is lifted apparently.

I only have 26yrs car driving experience though, but driving go carts and 3 wheelers and bikes/motorcycles for most of my 42 years on this planet.   Not that it matters.
I drive my Impreza on snow and dirt and it is heavier and less powerful, but easier to control that the Impreza in DirtRally.

I would like to add my few cents

  • Mouse driven menu, current one is frustrating I don't remember where is button 1 or 15 on my wheel... and I don't need that knowledge make menu so I don't have to touch my keyboard or wheel...
  • Another thing is head movement looking at the corner
  • Physics on some surfaces feels not right compare it to RBR
  • Training/Driving School again just like in RBR where the school is absolutely fantastic
  • Would be nice if snow on the side of the road would be a snow and not and stone wall barrier
  • Higher limit for FoV

Other than that great effort keep it up!

Hi,
don't know if it has been mentioned...
There's a bug. When you save your game and come back to race later, the AI looses a lot of time in the next stage.

I just crashed out on the last stage of 4.  I went over the edge, terminal damage.  Nevermind, I'll try again.
Back on the results screen I hit the A button thinking it'll let me have another attempt, whereas I should've pressed B to restart (xbox 360 controller).  Could you add an extra dialog "Are you sure?" to warn me that I've chosen to skip that stage?  Thanks.

Car physics:
Too much grip/traction coming out of corners. Cant steer the car with the throttle.
-A more realistic tyre slip angle is needed.
-Power needs to be delivered more aggressively

FFB:
-Should pull in the opposite direction when the car is oversteering
-Should become lighter as you loose grip when understeering
-Should contain all the information when driving over bumps and different road surfaces.
-Should be based on load and grip values instead of canned effects.

Edit: never mind. Saw that you were already aware of  Betta Lines' video on youtube ;)

When in a replay, it would be great if the camera could be moved arbitrarily, rotated, zoomed, whatever, in order to create the best snapshot of a moment of the race. Right now, that doesn't seem possible.

Some basic tutorials would be good to help teach (and practice) key manoeuvers.

I really like the game so far!
It is an interesting mix between simulation and arcade. :)

The only things i would like to see is a better implementation of the "Restart race" during the career. I love the fact that there are no rewind options, making you focusing at max for not losing everything for a mistake, instead of saying "meh, i can rewind". And i also like that you can restart the single race with a small price penalty. BUT! In my opinion, there should be added the option to restart also after a terminal damage.

I was doing my first championship, i was third, and i was at the final race of the last rally. Did a couple of restarts so far in the previous races and was fine to me. Then, a couple of corners before the finish i got understeer and the car jumped over the wall to get under the small bridge. Aaaaand terminal damage. Aaaaand no way to restart, since it allows only to press enter, to your unavoidable complete defeat (from third to 8th in the whole championship for a single mistake). I have to say i was a little pissed off. ^^;

I can understand that "in real life you do not have second chances", but this is a videogame. People races for fun, not for getting frustrated for stuff like this. So, since you have implemented a limited restart race ability, why not also when it is absolutely necessary? "Who blocks you pressing pause and restarting the race before you fall down?" you might say... Well, how is someone going to notice that you are going into game end by doing that mistake? Do i have to become paranoic and restart the race everytime my car slippers a little more than usual? XD

And then, a little thing that i'm missing so much since Colin Mcrae Rally: Rally school! Especially with this physics, it would be nice to teach people that this is not all "Press the throttle, steer randomly, win" ;)

Still very satisfacted with this Early Access thought. Keep it up!

P.S.: Little bug on Lancia Fulvia HF pedals: Pilot presses the accelerator, but the pedal that moves is the brake, while the throttle passes through the foot instead. ;) Not a huge problem, just a little visual mistake i saw...

Did you try the tweaked FFB from RD forum? It does improve the feeling quite a bit.

I do agree on slightly too much grip, not much though. I have no problem steering the M3/Escort MK2 with throttle input.
