DiRT Rally feedback list

Recommended Posts

Love the game. Still not able to win a race but getting closer. It's not clear what the easiest difficulty is, currently playing on pro. I would like to have a clutch button on the controller similar to forza.

@bogani
I tried several tweaked FFB files. None of them feel good.
The cars feel ok´ ish on gravel (still too much traction) but on tarmac it´s pretty much impossible to powerslide.
Could also be related to the way the power is delivered (i.e too slowly)

This would be more like it: https://youtu.be/5a-UuHS03xQ

I've not read the entire post and I haven't tried the game yet, however I have one small request.

If the exhaust system gets damaged/falls off the engine sound should change with it. Also if there's gonna be any option for engine/exhaust tweaking the sound should also change. Always wanted that detail in driving games but it's never been there :)

^^^^^^^ That force FFB looks great and also he is steering with the throttle as well.  Asseto Corsa also has some of the best FFB ive felt as well.  Dirt needs to implement this for sure it would be so much more immersive!!!!!

Hey guys! Didn't read the whole thread so probably some of my feedback will be repetitions, neverthless here it is:
Things that absolutely need to be fixed:
- FFB
- add tire choice before Start and during service
- random weather and road conditions with corresponding effects on the driving physics
-some of the car physics really need to be revised

Things that would make the game a better Simulation:
- more and longer Stages (laser scanned real stages would be really cool)
- make the roads a little tighter, most of the time they are about a meter wider than in reality
- A Recce-Mode would be really cool (to test the track and maybe adjust and personalize the pace notes)
- the Repair is quite unrealistic with the adjustment in percentages. Either I put on a new wheel or i leave the damaged wheel on, I can't fix it 2% The same applies for most other repairs. It would be more realistic to select repair-tasks with corresponding times, not percentages.
- The ability to change a flat tire on stage
- random appearance of obstacles (deer, photographers, crashed opponents, dust from opponents etc.)
- Adding current cars (R1,R2,R3,WRC etc)
- less possibilities for "Reset on road" and if one kills a spectator, the Rally is over, 15s for murder is a really light sentence

And one more big wish:
The Rally-Simulation Community is big and recourceful. In the past years there was no good Rally-Sim, so the community created own cars, own tracks, physics etc. for the old games. And they will want to carry on like this, so please work with them and allow private developers to add their content.

An please, for the love of god, please do not make the game any easier or Arcade-like! Rallying is hard, a Rally-Simulation needs to be hard. There are enough Arcade Rally-Games, we want a real Simulation.

Thank you Codemasters for finally releasing a simulation I can get my teeth into. Game is butter smooth and looks beautiful. Dust that hangs in the air is stunning.

FFB: needs a lot of work .. (no countersteering for one) this is very important as it is a substitute for the seat of the pants feeling you get in a real car.
Sound: while it is excellent; please listen to real group b cars.. the loudness almost distorts the engine note at high revs.. is it possible to capture it?
Escort BDA engines have a specific whine to them (probably to fussy!!).. Mk1 Escort twin cam would be a nice addition too!
Oh and loud fluttering wastgastes/dump valves is a must!

Pacenotes/co pilot voice: Volume needs adjustment by up to 50% more.
Helmet cam perhaps and Seat adjustment within the cockpit (FOV)

I have this ideas:
*Changes of car setup should take some time as repairs
*Some track changes depending on start position (some holes etc.)
*Some animals on track like birds or deer running off the track sometimes

Everything else is in the list I think.

Force feedback for FWD cars.  Too much force is simply an auto-center feel.  There doesn't seem to be any torque steer and traction feedback is almost nil.

Adaptive co-driver system so that as you speed up the co-driver can keep up with his calls.  It seems that if you're going too fast it's easy for the co-driver's announcements to take too long and he skips calls.

The ability to save replays for future playback.

I've noticed when using the Xbox one controller you, if you double tap to change gear twice it won't do it, which is a little annoying when trying to quickly go from a high gear to reverse or reverse back in to first, which I seem to be doing a lot lately!

I've seen plenty of posts asking for the game to be as realistic as possible / brutally unforgiving like RBR & just as many posts saying the game is too hard & needs to be easier for beginners / casual gamers.

There's no reason why the game couldn't cater for both. When you load the game for the 1st time you required to create a profile, this could include a choice of game modes similar to Xpand Rally, but unlike Xpand Rally that has only 2 options Arcade & Simulation Dirt Rally could have 5, the same skill setting as used in DiRT 1

Pro
Pro Am
Amateur
Clubman
Rookie

But where DiRT 1 failed was you could skip through the game at Rookie level gaining access to all tracks in all skill levels.

My idea is you choose your skill levels at the beginning setting up your profile, you can create a profile for each skill level but your progress & unlocked stages stay in that profile only & all online leader boards are kept separate for each.

Various measures could be taken to make the lower skill levels easier, extra barriers protecting from head on collisions with trees or rocks or certain trees / rocks removed & most importantly (like DiRT 1) times that are achievable with a little effort.

With these 5 levels of difficulty theirs no limit to how challenging Pro league can be, well kept realistic !,  everyone's happy.

Had a re-think, 10 days ago I wrote  'you can create a profile for each skill level but your progress & unlocked stages stay in that profile only & all online leader boards are kept separate for each.'

After I re-think I realise that if players can have multiple profiles it allows better players to dominate & ruin the lower leagues, so maybe after a few test run's players are put into a suitable league for their ability.

Decrease grip. The best physics IMHO is Group B, where there is enough power to overcome the grip so you can actually do a powerslides. For example, Sierra RS500 om gravel nearly stalls when short shift under full throttle to second gear - unreal. Other then that, I am very happy where this is going,. Finally finally finally some good new rally game.
Update: I have spend couple of hours now with all the cars and I have to say, WRC on gravel cars should drive like Group B on gravel with faster shifting. Spot-on is Peugeot 205 T16 - which IMHO is the best handling car in the game in regards to physics.

What I also would like to see would be:

Stages:

France
Germany
Italy
Portugal

(View on the sea in Spain/Portugal/Italy/France/... possibly?)

Whats about per button featable/defeatable windshiled wiper ? For example short press on button windshield wiper wipes one time, long press water comes an wiper wipes 3 times. Makes sense on very dusty curses - sand pollution on windshield should be more realistic!
A ghost car would be nice when hunting for best times.

When leaving the track, countdown is very unrealistic and disappointed. Countdown should be defeatable.
Then the starting engine sound is too short . It should even sound more bass-accentuated.

Agreed 100%. I proposed similar idea before as well, hope devs consider!

I'm not really fond of the monte tarmac and RWD either, but on gravel the RWD cars handle as close to reality as I have tried. No other game /sim has been as close as this. I do have real life experience competing in 60-80s RWD cars on hillclimbs and circuits with mixed gravel and tarmac. This is ofc only my two cents.

Btw, you're a game dev too right?
;)

Bug: In helicopter view we can hear the co-driver which is a bug i think.

Wish: all length replay cameras without rotating them! Only user should change them in-time! Please forget 'Codies' style auto rotating cameras. VERY ANNOYING.
that style is good for a demo or a presentation not for watch back the mistakes in a rally stage!
Wish: give Us service area with mechanicers, as we seen in Colin McRae Raly 3!

Wish: make the game modder-friendly. Look at RBR after 10 years still popular! Why? BEcuase more thousands of added cars with their skins and few new tracks for a week also available. This modder - friendly state should gives you time and money.
Look at Assetto Corsa, how they did it right, and why that sim is the most popular nowdays!

Thanks for reading. Keep up the good work. I like this game a lot!

The game looks spectacular, please bring a console version asap! Sweet Lamb looks perfect.

Suggestions:-
clubman spec cars, 1400 Nova, 205 Gti, Fiesta ST, Grp N wrx, Evo 6/7/8/9 etc.

Andy Burton's Peugeot Cosworth. I think this car would be a huge hit.

Please keep all the Dirt 2 stuff away from this game

Hey guys, some more from me:

1st place AI is a bit too perfect imo.
their pace is challenging and does not need to be tweaked but I feel 2nd and 3rd Ai should be occasionally getting stage wins at the same pace instead of 1st Ai winning every stage without errors the entire rally which will make consistency more of a strategy.

-it takes too long to shift into reverse, can we have a dedicated key/button to shift into reverse (not hold for reverse)?

-please please please spend a boat load of money to get WRC Licensed cars like the polo r, and the i20

-distance of stages on load screens/stage select screens

One thing which is important for a gravel setup: brake power! On Gravel you are turning your car by braking, not really possible with actual setup...

And another thing: is there anybody wondering why they have a ford license and display the WRC of 2008? Since then there were 4 different homologations of that car... Wondering if it's a licensing problem due to BigBen/Milestone or if they can add the cars from the past few years.

Are you talking about the Ford Fiesta WRC? Because that was the 2011 debut livery which was sub licensed to be used in dirt 3 which i guess they still have that license. If this is true I think it would be safe to say they still have the license for the focus RS, Citroen c4, and the group n Subaru.
