DiRT Rally feedback list

Recommended Posts

Why am I getting so many freaking email updates from this thread! It is ridiculous!  No other forum does this crap.

[DUBBING IN PORTUGUESE]
What would be a rally driver without his co-pilot? That's how we Brazilians, Lusitanian etc. we feel playing rally games without dubbing in our native tongue, for the vast majority does not dominate more than one language (Portuguese). We have to 'guess' the curves that lies ahead, and if we want to make a good time on stage, we need to run it several times to decorate.
Great game franchises have already adopted the dubbing in Portuguese (The Last of Us, Halo, Far Cry, Destiny, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, Foza, Gran Turismo ... Codemasters games, F1, GRID ...) so why just a game that requires both voice lacks the dubbing? Unfortunate.
Portugal hosts stage of the WRC and WRX, a country full of rally fans, Brazil is one of the biggest's market of games world, and not we have one co-pilot in which we can understand what say ... Sad.
I await anxiously for a co-pilot who speaks my language in a DiRT game.

(If there are errors in writing, forgive me, I use Google Translate.)
I think it 's only fair , after all pilot and co- pilot work together in sync if one can not understand the other , the result will be nothing nice ... Give us a Portuguese co- pilot PLEASE .

I am a rally fan but also believe game's should be fun to play, getting a good balance between simulation & a game that's fun for everyone maybe impossible but codemasters are very close.

I think there should be a beginners league, In my first attempt at career mode even though I came 2nd I was a whopping 2:21.800 behind first place. A more achievable win would be more encouraging, stages unlocked in beginners league should not be unlocked for higher leagues.

I'm hoping the Tarmac terrors added in June will offer wider more forgiving roads allowing for higher speeds with a little more room for error, at least in some of the early stages.

The addition of some circuits (not rallycross I'm thinking more like xpand rally with different route's in the same area) so we can make best lap times with our top 10 stored in our savegame & only the best time from each player used in an online leaderboard, then everyone has a target to beat, top players continuously competing for top of the leaderboard, for everyone else beating ones own best time will always the most appropriate & achievable goal at every level of ability. A ghost car option & choice of how many laps would also be nice.

I use 900 degrees with 100% saturation. The Escort MK2 feels quite awesome with this setting. However, choosing other cars can sometimes feel alot more twitchy even with the same settings.
I saw someone mention "twitchy steering bug". That would explain that.

First off, what an amazing project! Very interesting to see a proper sim-rally, it's been over 10 years since the last one!
Many of the things I'd like to see have already been mentioned, except most importantly:

Hotseat rallying

This is something that I'm sure many old Rally Trophy and Richard Burns fans miss, myself included ofc.
The hotseat mode in RBR was a little slim, not including a proper championship, but individual rallies.
Rally Trophy however had a championship mode for up to 8 players to play locally, and you could even save your progress and continue later.
I sorely miss the times when 2-6 of my friends got together and we'd play RT for a day or a whole weekend, often very competetively!
We even had a tv screen set up with a duplicate of the picture, so those waiting for their turn to drive could spectate the rally.
I understand that online racing is the thing these days, but when it comes to rallying, it's nowhere near as fun as local racing with the added social aspect and excitement.

What a game so far! Considering its only in early access. While driving i had a few things which i felt would be nice additions to have.

Improvements

Have the spectators run across the course trying to take pictures (Like in dirt 3)
Crowd Noise

IMHO as lots of people here are pointing out the same things, it would be nice if someone from Codemasters referred to our feedback. I think that buying this game at EA makes us testers and we should cooperate with Codies not just by one way posts, when we have no idea if our statements are even listened.

I bought this game becouse developers claimed that they will be close to the community, and with our help they want to create unique game. In my opinion being close means not only reading posts(I hope they do it) but also talking back to us.

The biggest problem with the physics is revealed in the movement of the cars in the replay, as always. I am so used to seeing badly done animation now, even the fact that you can approach it artistically or mathematically. When the car goes loose both the way it goes loose and the way it regains grip has way too linear movement. This should be eased in and out of, for smooth motion. Sudden wheel/controller movement shouldn't directly relate to turning on a dime. Some layer of this physics simulation is oversimplified. My guess is the tires.

With shadow settings set between low & high I notice the shadows change form as you approach them, adding more detail as they get closer. I find this a bit distracting so prefer either ultra low (off) or ultra. If other's share this view maybe cut the options to just these 2 settings or have a medium setting where the shadows are constant basic shapes only.

To be honest, this is the official forum, but the devs answers more on the steam discussion. And then there is a subreddit. Where do I leave my feedback best?

Feedback

Ok initial impressions are I am very impressed, I would say this is certainly the best rally game you guys have done. Also I feel special note should go to your artists and level designers, all the stages look good but the Welsh stages are ridiculously well done imo.

UI

I’m currently running with no UI to make it seem more realistic with no floating direction indicators etc but it would be handy to turn on/off individual elements so for example I could see the times at least, or only display penalties rather than a blanket on/off.

SFX

I feel at the moment the in car sound could benefit from the sfx from stones when you are near the edge of the track should be the default sound on track, the sound when you are close to the edge of the track should be increased with more stone/dirt hits on the underneath of the car, unless this was a specific design decision as it got too monotonous if you did ever have it like that.

I also think the SFX for locking brakes could be increased a little to make it clearer when this is happening I’ve only really been driving the mk2 escort and on audio evidence alone I would say I have never locked the brakes which I am sure is not the case (I am running it with no aids other than auto gears)

Reverse to First gear

Changing from Reverse to first gear atm seems instant/wrong is this actually how quick they can change or artificially amended or just broken :P

Pace notes Guide

An in game pace note guides (or mentioned in some tutorial) maybe handy for those that don’t read the forums as no doubt someone will now post one here :P

External cameras

For replays is there any chance we can have the option to stick to one particular camera all stage rather than flicking between them automatically or do all the camera not cover all the stage e.g. could we stick it on helicam on the start line and stay on helicam until the end?

Roadmap

I know the roadmap indicates a few things but do you know for definite what is going to be in each yet, I image you do know the majority and depending on community feedback you may add to it depending on timescales etc. So could you not disclose more details of the roadmap, it may stop 100 people asking for certain cars/tracks which you already know will be included.

Suggestions

Tracks

For me and perhaps a lot of your fans rallying is Welsh stages and Kielder, Grizedale forest, Chatsworth House and Manx/Irish tarmac rallies, obviously I am biased as I am from the UK but more of this kind of track please, hopefully there are UK tracks in the tarmac update (I know, I know I want too much! :O)

Historic events?

Is there any chance that old events for example the Lombard Rally could be added or is the fact that it is an old event harder licence wise rather than easier?

Cars

Any chance of a Peugeot 306 Maxi in the tarmac add-on or just in general?

Fans

Talking of fans I’m sure in Grid when you crashed near the crowds they responded with an ‘OOOOooo’ or something, I haven’t noticed it in Dirt but would be nice to have again.

Voiceovers/Translation

I know The Long Dark asked their community to help with this and got over 15 different country translations within a few days, maybe that is an option?

Forum

Also Dirt Rally needs its own forum with Suggestions, bugs videos/images/leagues section etc

K, think I am done, hope some of that is useful.

Ok I know this maybe a bit off topic but still relevant, I only use a keyboard for gaming and find Tapping a key as fast as possible doesn't always give the level of control I need, usually steering too much.

I'd like to see a gaming keyboard developed that uses sensitive keys similar to buttons used in console controllers, with obvious benefits for racing games, in FPS it would also provide better control over how fast you walk/run & for normal typing drivers would allow you to set your preferred actuation point.

OK, after further testing here are my observations:
Apart from too high grip especially on Monte Carlo, cars have no inertia. My guess is that combination of too high grip and not enough weight are the issue, but I've mentioned it before. It's nearly impossible to slide with a throttle off using just cars inertia. Also car regains grip too easily.
Handbrake works weird. I almost have the feeling using it launches scripted car behaviour. I don't know why- let's see what other say. Left foot braking works great on FWD, but AWD is not pronounced enough.
Right now game is not easy, and that's cool, let's also make cars dance a little bit on the road, just how they do IRL :)
EDIT: Forgot about RWD- they are just wrong. Front wheel should follow the drive line, and slide should be controlled by throttle imput. ight now You keep the throttle pressed to the floor 99% of the time.

I am confused as well, thought that official forum is the best way to share a feedback but I am not so sure anymore.

Love this game!
My wishes for future updates are:

Please add an option to randomize weather and track condtions
Please add an option to create my own rally season
Please unlock all cars at the beginning of a career (unlocking items is so stupid in a sim)

Regards

Can people please stop trying to turn this into RBR?
They wanted feedback from the community and that is exactly what they are getting.  There is an overwhelmingly large sim racing community that absolutely wants this to be RBR and more.

Even though I don't feel the RBR handling model is that great I want that particular level of detail and physics modeling that's around it.

I thought that the community wanted as much close to irl as possible but copying another game for that seems way off. It seems that everyone has done rallying and know exactly how everything should be. Only reason why RBR has received the sim status is because no one ever tried to make a potent rally sim and RBR happened to be done right at the time. I myself was skeptic at first but when I actually got the hang of  DiRT Rally it blew RBR away. It's not perfect yet so it's just to wait and see what they do. I hope Codemasters will use their better judgement and as far as it is now I can fully rely on them.

You don't have to be a rally driver to know that even on snow tires without  studs you don't have any grip at ice. Also please compare real rally videos to replays from RBR and DiRT: Rally. For me those from RBR look much more realistic if you compare car movement.

I haven't spent enough time within the cockpit to know what proper FOV should be for each car.

@Codemaster, please include a slider option to slide either slide the seat or the FOV entirely.

@Ledanek
Nice driving, mate!
This footage shows how high the grip is- car slides into tight corner high speed, and just slows down and engine has problem power sliding through the corner. As if it was 40 cm layer of a liquid concrete, not mud.

After reading other post with people asking for things like 'add a tuning system, so that you can chance for example the engine or the wheels'

If this is added could race times from these tweaked cars be considered unofficial and not allowed in pvp competitions so its only driving skill that counts and no one is left at a disadvantage.

First of all i'd like to see different threads in a feedback 'section' so there is a bit more structure to it all. This 1 thread alone will become a mess of hundreds of pages with people wishing for cars (wishlist like) aside from features and options. Wouldn't it be better if for example you make a separate wishlist thread for cars and keep this one only for feedback regarding gameplay and features?

Just my 2 cents.
