DiRT Rally feedback list

Do you ever feel that the guys have pushed the Ego engine so far past its comfort zone to get the amazing results they have, that they've been left with unfortunate minor short-comings beyond their control that the engine literally can't handle improving?

We need to realise this when not-picking over trivial frustrations that we have & see the good that has been squeezed out of an outdated system & appeciate the direction in which the brand is headed.

I agree.

If there are issues people have which they feel are important, I believe they should still be posted - it could prove important in future titles - but people should also appreciate that the engine they are using for this game is past its prime and being pushed to its absolute limits and not rage over a few shortcomings in this particular game. Just leave feedback in a calm, constructive manner (as most people are) and the devs will take it into account moving forward. It's clear that they are listening.

There's also the fact that it's a small team on a tight budget. The DiRTy devs had to fight hard just to get this project authorised, and, if not for their passion, DiRT Rally would never have come into being. With this game's success, I'm sure they'll get a proper budget for their next title and be able to produce something far greater, without the all the constraints of the current engine or the lack of finance for the more expensive licenses.

Just my two-pence on the matter.

I gotta get my head off to this game! its just amazing at the early access stage, really good work! And i hope the release version of this game will be include much more content. Will be cool to see Subaru Legacy (legendary Colin McRae car), Lancer Evo 5, 6 or 6.5 Tommi Makinen Ed., also Lancer Evo 8 or 9, Toyota Celica's, Citroen Xsara. And more stages and countries as Japan (asphalt + gravel, i think.., like in old CMR game series), Australia, Corsica France (passes asphalt stages with a lot of hairpins). And more weather variety as afternoon rain, evening rain, drizzle, etc.. And more dust and dirt on the cars like in Dirt3 game)) And improve crash physics of course

and Random Mechanical Failures
Also, it would be really cool to occasionally get a failure, could be anything from stuck windscreen wipers to punctures, overheating or failure with a gearbox, etc. It should be depend on engineers skill - only one mechanic in our team and he has low gearbox or brakes skill? > Sometimes we can have problem with some gear (eg. crashes 4th gear) or weak brakes, but our mechanic got mad skills with engine and cooling system, so there is no overheating anymore. So we can take a choice - fire that mechanic or keep him in the team for growth his skills or hire another one. It makes sense to hire a good engineers. It will be really interesting and risky for every stage, for every country.

Keep it up, i already love this game, one of the best rally games for a long time ever! Cheers!

...SORRY FOR THIS COMENT IN ESPAÑOL! Codemasters - great work so far ! Thanks a lot.  But Please, repair tarmac physics. Car turning like howercraft on tarmac. With V1 handlig I enjoyed a lot driving on tarmac but now is undriveable. Hillclimb on tarmac too

Can we back to v1 handling on tarmac only ? On gravel and snow V2 are very good. Please tell do You plan to change someting with tarmac physics? Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

Please add more Multiplayer possibility like Rally or PikesPeak multiplayer
And the possibility to stay on helicopter view  during replay.
Changing Car setup in the middle of the race.(like spings or differential)
And more Hillclimb races and Cars.
Thx for this still GREAT game.

Love the game, one of the best, if not the best rally experience on PC.

I use the Logitech G920 racing wheel and when I map it in almost all keyboard function is lost except for the ESC and Enter keys. The wheel gets mapped in and many keys are no longer available at all such those required to move through menus normally. As the mouse can't seem to be used to select menu items controling ingame options is impossible.

Reading the forums I see other experienced users with different wheels having the same infuriating problem.

Any chance of a significant improvement in mapping key options? Particularly it would be good if maped key funtions were reflected on screen: for example if I map the G920 [X] button for putting the vehicle back on the track, that's what should be shown on screen.

Also, if we could have the option to remove the UV-Sun-Cover on the top of the windshield.

+1

The decal is too wide, in the Fiesta seems it's half of the windshield.

And also the steering wheel is too low.

Cheers... And a Happy New Year!!!

First impression after many hours driving, overall, very nice indeed, I campaigned a Mk2 Escort in the early to late eighties at club level with reasonable success, mostly in Wales. I have, like most Rally fanatics, been waiting for this for a very long time. Pleased a Mk2 is included with BDA engine sounds but I feel the Mk1 deserves to be included also. The Wales  stages look stunning,  I have a powerful PC so everything is on ULTRA, the attention to detail is amazing, driving the Escort in DR is very nostalgic for me. I will check out other cars and locations later but for now, for me, its all about the Escort in Wales. There are a few areas that do need serious attention and I pray that these will be corrected before final release.  The first thing I did was to switch off the annoying naff music !

1/ REPLAY. ITS HORRIBLE. If  I have just driven a stage I do not want or need to see it again from the inside of the car or the arches, wheels, behind etc. This is silly gimmicky stuff that needs to go, this is supposed to be a Rally Simulation, not a kiddie arcade game. All we want is track-side TV shots of the whole stage blended with some close heli shots. A good replay is very important so you can watch and analyse your driving to see where you are going wrong and learn from the mistakes in replay to improve your stage times, I have posted some good RBR replay video in other threads on this topic.

2/ USER INTERFACE. Needs more work. Creating, saving and re loading Presets is tiresome, this needs to be made idiot proof, it needs SAVE options on every window so loading presets before a stage is simple, hassle free and settings are not lost. Once your controller is set up and mapped, it should not have to be done again every time you start the sim. This was a problem in D3 and it beggars belief it still there in DR !

3/ ESCAPE OPTIONS. This one is doing my head in, If you are on the start line and you realise that something is wrong in the settings, we must have the option to ESC, correct the problem and go back to start, as it is, you have to drive the whole stage before you can exit. I am tired of having to hit CTRL - ALT- DEL to exit, again, this was a problem in D3. Please fix this, its sooo annoying and spoils the overall experience. Please put an ESC button on every window in the UI with access to the menu's on top of the screen or below.

4/ WINDSRCEEN SUNSTRIP.   Can you make it much narrower ? it ruins the forward view, I have tried seat adjustments but it doesn't help much.

5/ CAR INTERIORS. Can we have more detailed and realistic interiors, maybe photo real ?

6/ AN AUTHENTIC WORKS Mk 2 ESCORT. The in game car is based on a one off special that was built for Colin McRae with independent rear suspension !? The works cars had a live Atlas rear axle. The Escort should be singled out for special attention in terms of realism and authenticity. It dominated the world rallying scene for some 11 years in the golden years of rallying,  driven and loved by some of the greatest names. It most certainly deserves to be properly modelled in DR to acurately replicate the Escort we all now and love. Spot on BDG engine sounds would be nice with some echo / reverb in the forests.

I could go on but I would be nit picking.  In my humble opinion, if these few problems are rectified before final release then Codies are well on the way to producing a first class rally simulation, not there yet but I see great potential.  I hope development and tweaking will continue after final release to aim for perfection.

Keep up the good work Codies, I hope the decision makers read these forums.

I think it is a good idea to add endurance runs like Online Monthly contest to the custom rally under career. I would like to run all stages with the same car, same engineer team, without resetting the car repair times when we move to different country like we do in Online Monthly.

Why it is not added as a feature already, I wonder :)

I would like to report one mistake on pacenotes.
I my opinion, the pacenote for the last corner of "Argolis, Greece - Anodou Farmakas" -stage is too high! It says something like "right, four", but it should have atleast "caution" and also lower number of gear, maybe "two". I have crashed almost every time on that corner, maybe seven or eight times, on different vehicle classes. Thank you for reading these suggestions! You have just done the greatest rally-game/simulator on this planet!!

Hi all.
First of all, REALY BIG THANK YOU for Codemasters that finaly you have made not easy, demanding game, with long stages and where you feel that you drive a CAR and not a CARTON BOX, whre during driving with all assists off in cockpit with steering wheel, I have to adjust the gas power on corners to not sleep the wheels so much. Very often I have to drive with 50-70% of the max power of vehicle and it depends on the surface, THAT'S IT. After autosport I have lost hope that Codemaster can do a good, hard, demanding, model of driving. My favorite games were TOCA 2, TOCA Race Driver 3(gravel traps option MUST BE ON), CMR2, CMR 2004 because of not bad driving phisics. And after 12 years of waiting finaly I have something on good level. For me the game could be even more difficult. I have made a suggestion here;
http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/39704/hard-core-colisions-and-vehicle-damage-pay-for-all-from-cr-like-in-real#latest
For future, I am waiting for something on closed asphalt raceways with turning cars from Codemasters. Something like TOCA 2 and Race Driver 3(gravel traps ON) where you had to drive 200laps to learn how to handle the vehicle and all holes on road, next 100 laps for create car setup with telemetry. Such a games I love :)
Congratulations for DIRT RALLY team and driving phisics programers, model realy is not bad. Thats it!!! (finaly somebody has added 9,81ms^2 :D)

I do believe that the biggest area of a fantastic game that needs loving is the multiplayer aspect of it. More often than not I cannot see my friends scores as they just do not show. I would like a live ghosting feature so that when I am having a LAN party with my friends we can see live how well we are doing against each other in real time. The friends and multiplayer aspect is badly lacking and having to use a web interface to set up a multiplayer event is plain mad. You should take the cookies away from whichever developer brought that gem to the table !

I definitely agree with everything said from the comment said at the top but to also add to what he said, maybe add some american stages like 100 are wood rally. Basically rally america stages and maybe some american rallycross courses. That would be amazing if some or all of this could be added in the future.

Would be a good idea to have made sound effects compatible with ButtKickers eg nothing satisfying with gear changes this is a big deal for me, plus need a circuit map for rally x tracks or a driving line

Loving this title. I spent around 3 hours with it last night, sat in a Playseat Challenge with a T150 and in front of a 51" display.

Point of note: once I had stepped down the hardware's degree of rotation, things improved dramatically.

Graphics wise, I would say things are just a little dirty - no pun intended - and whilst I appreciate that rallying isn't pretty, some of the texturing is pretty rough. However - the lighting is superb and does a great job of simulating real colours and movement, and had me feeling genuine motion sickness at times. Dust and water effects are particularly nice. Overall, I am hugely impressed so far.

It had me thinking back to 1998 and the many hours I put in to honing my Colin McRae Rally skills... and then thinking about how much this series has evolved. I like the back-to-basics approach of Dirt Rally - the previous Dirt games were a little heavy on style over substance, but this one has it nailed.

Improvements for future patches that I would dearly like to see, in order of desirability:
  1. Custom FOV
  2. In cockpit view with no GUI, an option for a virtual visual countdown or enhanced tones for rallycross starts - by the time GO appears, it's all over...
  3. Option to remove the driver and wheel from cockpit view
  4. Rally Australia
Wish I could play some more - but I'm sending my T150 back today and a replacement isn't arriving until the weekend...

Dirt Rally is awesome but this last update...no, just a great big NO!
N.O.
Cars are ok
Menu background is ok
Damage system: What the hell happened?! I've crashed at 120km/h with 3 different cars and...just an aerdynamic damage! Really?
Sound: why recycle the Sierra Turbo sound for the Renault 5? Why the asked improvements for the Group B cars never happened? Why the Peugeot Pikes Peak sounds less important than the Fulvia HF?
Online: Standard team engineers for everyone? No, i've played hard in the offline mode to be 100% competitive in the online rallies, i don't want to be treated like a casual gamer with a good pad.

Dear Codemasters, bring back the Simulation, not these arcade-ish stuff

DiRT Rally is a technical achievement. There were some concerns regarding the console launch, and it seems that there was a whole lot of worrying for nothing. Simply amazing and I imagine companies like Kyloton could tear a page from Codemaster's book of efficiency and doing something right the first time. I have WRC 5 ('cause there wasn't anything else available) and there is truly no comparison. The former boasts all the rallies in a WRC year...but one stage in DiRT is the equivalent of an entire rally in WRC 5. Epic stages. Epic sense of speed. Truly well done, Codies.

Some of the concerns I was referring to would be compatibility with the Logitech G29 with the Driving Force Shifter for the PS4. Some of the things that I had read were scary to me, considering the cost of my racing rig. I'm pleased to announce that it works beautifully. Literally plugged it in and drove. No issues whatsoever. It take me awhile to figure out how to assign my shifter as a handbrake (4th gear works super well) but once I got my head out of my...ahem...it actually turned out to be pretty simple. A couple of elastic bands around the shifter and all you need do is let go and it disengages. I've read that some people aren't happy with the FFB and honestly, I can't figure that out for the life of me. I also play Project CARS a lot, and the FFB in DiRT is FAR superior...not that there's anything wrong with the FFB in PC...it's just that I find DiRT is better. I can feel every wheel perfectly. Very helpful in Monaco and it's ice patches.

So, at this point and my 8 hours I've put into it (only got it on launch day) and 700+ KMS driven. I'm confident I will be rallying for a long, long time moving forward. With that said, I want more.

Tour De Course (France) would be an ideal location. I like asphalt...and currently Germany (which is ridiculously cool...and also my first rally victory) is the only place you can do that.

Poland is pretty tootin' cool too. Just sayin'...

Africa used to be cool...and brutal on cars. I imagine a lot like Greece...which I find to be the hardest location so far. Anyway, while I've never been someone who purchases DLC's for stuff I've already paid handsomely for. I would, however,  pay Codemasters for anything you put up there to expand this already awesome rally simulation. Thank you all for your hard work. I personally think it's paid off in spades.

Game is awesome. A couple fixes i would like to see:
* replays on pvp rallyx
* 8 player rx turns into two completely seperate races. The group of 8 gets seperated into two groups of four and they race on the same track but in some parallel universe, the first group never gets to race the second group on the same track. Make the top two or top three drivers from the two completely seperate races have to drive together in a final, or just do away with that all together and allow all 8 drivers to rx together on the same track.

Other than that, the game is perfect, cant wait to see what the future updates will bring. Thank you dirt rally/codemasters!

I'd like to have a Porsche 911 RS from 1972 or the 911 SCRS that Toivonen drove in the Rothmans livery. Other than that more rallies would be great. Thinking of Australia, New-Zeeland, Corsica or Spain, Argentina... I'm playing on PS4 so an add on is preferable (I would pay for these)

The split times can't be moved and are frequently in the way. This should be adressed.

Other than that this game is fantastic.

Please please fix the PS4 wheel force feedback. I've got a T300 and the feedback is terrible. I hear this is not the case on PC or XBOX ONE. Please look into it as it's ruining the game for me - feels so arcadey and not connected to the road at all.

just posted this in the gossip thread but thought it probably should be posted here. Watched this video over the weekend and parts of it from 7:30 minutes in really hit the mark for me, and i feel this holds the key to securing DR2 a spot as the all-time great of motorsport games.

To me the essence of his rant is the depth of the experience and immersion that is missing from so many modern games. Once core gameplay is nailed, it's what surrounds the core driver experience that really immerses you into the sport, which can turn a game from something well executed, to something truly incredibly special and satisfying to play.

DR obviously has the core driving experience nailed. It's top notch. DR also is providing a rewarding experience by being so damn challenging - it's why we keep sinking hundreds of hours into it. All I feel the next DR project needs is to nail the feel of really being part of a rally event in a realistic, tasteful way.

It's summed up best for me in the difference between FIFA's career mode and NBA 2K's career mode. FIFA's gameplay is pretty great, but there is absolutely no engagement or reward in the experience of playing. - it's just slogging out the same match over and over. Match atmosphere doesn't change, whether its a League One match or a Champions League Final. NBA 2K has sponsor deals, contracts, interviews, season awards - the atmosphere changes when playoffs arrive etc. You feel part of a dynamic environment, part of something bigger.

I'm not saying I want a crappy / tacky career mode, but I do want the supporting stuff specific to rally that helps me experience the unique feel of each event - have a flow between shakedown and stages. Imagine having procedurally generated stages and having a proper recce beforehand - holy heck. I want to head back to service park between stages and feel the buzz. I want to pass crashed competitors, and deal with dust when i'm catching a damaged car. The service park, spectator density and atmosphere should change depending on the rally event - local club vs WRC etc. The core DR driving experience is so good they don't need to change it, just spend time on building more locations, and working on the environment, and it will be the greatest game EVER MADE.

How about a shakedown option for the daily events, even if it's limited to one run? If the event is for a car I'm not familiar with I'd like a quick go just to see how it handles and, more importantly, what type of transmission it has. The starting technique is completely different for clutch + H as opposed to flappy paddles. Worse still for some reason if I press the handbrake but don't hold it the older cars will sit there, even in neutral while the fancy sequential types often roll backward and gain a penalty. I know I can have a quick look then try a custom event but the temptation is to practice and learn the stage and that's not rally.

Please fix the steering animation. Project cars accurately tracks my wheel angle through 900 degrees and even driveclub can be made right by manually setting lock to match the car. This shouldn't bother me but it detracts from the immersion and it's really distracting.

Also, I drive with the HUD off. partly to help immersion, mostly because my brain can't cope with anything else. In other games I'm happy to have timers, track maps etc. on. Trouble is I don't know if I've picked up any penalties unless it's bad enough to reset to track (or does a penalty always reset to track?). Would be nice to have a breakdown at the end so next time I know where to be more careful. failing that a defined list of penalties - I know attempting to kill a spectator causes a reset and 15 second penalty but what about knocking a warning flag over or swinging the back end through a tape marker? Not looking to cheat but when it's gone a bit wrong I'd like to know if it's better to floor it an fishtail or back off then pull away quietly.

Finally, these are just minor gripes. Big thank you for taking a risk and bringing this to PS4. I hope enough of us buy it to show there is a market for realistic sims and there is a market for rally.
