DiRT Rally feedback list

After the last update it has become impossible for me to run the game smoothly. The framerate is very jittery and jerky, and it doesnt matter whether I set graphics up to ultra or down to low. Previously I could avoid the problem by setting the process priority to high and cpu affinity to only the first 2 cpu-s, but that doesnt seem to help much anymore. Im running it on win7 SP1 32bit. NVIDIA Gtx 660 and i5 CPU 2,8 Ghz is enough to run most other games on high at least, but this doesnt even run on low atm.

Relocation of spectators.

As a rally fan I have noticed there are some really 'dangerously' placed spectators who would probabl cause teh stage to be cancelled.

In realy life at the minute there is a real issue with spectators standing in stupid places and putting themselves and the drivers at risk. Could the spectators be moved to more appropriate places to set a positive example to rally fans new and old.


Might sound a bit nit-picky but feel it is something Codemasters should be considering.

not when you have a speaker attached to your ear. ive used headsets and they do a pretty good job of translating the words. otherwise you may as well just be shouting at each other.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere. I looked but couldn't find it.

I love this game but since Pikes Peak came out I am getting quite frustrated at having to change my gear settings between rally and hill climb.
I drive manual h-pattern in Rally and manual sequential in Hill Climb.

Can't you just put this option in the menus at the start of each race?
I hate that I have to leave the championship and go and edit my profile to change the gear settings.

The only other negative thing I have is that when the stage time difference pops up, and mine is usually red :), can you please not put it right in the middle of the track ahead. Can you put it off to the side somewhat so it doesn't distract me. I've turned HUD off entirely because this annoyed me so much.

Apart from the above items I looooovvveee this game.

Codies should implement the Assetto Corsa's control page version where you could choose "Use separate shifter" so that the right type of shifter is used for the right cars automatically !

Codemasters must don't copy and paste same as other titles, it can be as a reference, what solutions are in the market for this, but in my opinion, Codemasters have to create other type of control to manage shifters, handbrakes, pedals and wheels and do it better than other games, not copy the same.

I am wishing that this game will be either like CMR 2 or 5. Those games had lots of locations and every stage was different(at least cmr 2 had, not 100% sure about 5)

I will keep playing the game, and I hope there will be many more locations to come and more different unique tracks for each country. It will make the game feel more complete instead of copypaste. Really looking forward to australia!

Last time I checked it's what you do in rally and I am pretty sure it's a game about rally. The stages in the game have been taken from real roads. If you ask me that's as close as real you can get unless you want to laser scan mud.  

I think many people don't get the actual problem. It's not a problem of the stage realism it's a problem of the variety. At the moment it could happen that your driving 3 Stages in a row:

1. A-C, 2. B-D and 3. A-D

In this case you're driving the stage between B and C threetimes in a row, and that's what's Kind of boring about. Just create 6 diffrent stages an run them in both way. No central-road like it's no the case or as it was the case in the most WRC Games.

Meh, I've been in a real rally car and it isnt even close. Might be my computer sound then.
I hear him fine. In a real rally car your intercom allows you to hear him and you can turn that mic up or down as you like. If the intercom wasn't working you'd definately have a hard time hearing your codriver through your helmet over the engine, transmission whine and stones rattling the underneeth of the car on gravel, he'd really have to shout... but hey this is just a game. If it was a proper, true sim, we;d have a seperate audio line out for the codriver that we could listen to through our headphones while blasted by the other ingame sounds from speakers, :D
That is a feature i never thought i would want but now i need it!!

Hmm. Not sure I fully understand you. But I'm not talking about handbrake turns I'm talking about applying throttle in general. These cars should really step out sideways when the diff is firm.
Yeah, no doubt about that. Atm, the cars aren't stepping out sideways properly. But is it only a matter of grip? I'm not so sure if it's only that. Something to do with the power of the cars too? Because the group B don't seem to me as powerful as they should be in acceleration for example.
I think it's:
-grip is too high on all surfaces. It is noticeable when accelerating, passing corners at all speeds and braking points.
-weight of the car is too low. It might be an illusion connected to grip issue, but I cannot see a single onboard footage from early access showing a proper weight balance play. Guys from various sim forums make exactly the same observation after testing the game.
-engine output is not modeled correctly. We should have some kind of turbo lag ie on Group B cars, but WRC cars are ought to have pretty good power output across torque thanks to anti lag system. Watch any onboards, drivers easily break grip even on bottom section of revs on slow corners. Another posibility is that engine is modeled correctly, but improper grip level being too high prevents wheels from breaking grip resulting in lack of engine power. I can provide real life onboards to prove any of above.

Maybe someone is willing to make some sort of suggestion-improvement list thread, it's getting a little overwhelming.
Collecting all ideas, suggestions and removing duplicates and marking ideas:

Really good game!

I would like to see:
  • I would like to see the guys at Codemasters to reduce the "back on track timer" and let us finish the crash, without numbers popping up on the screen.

  • Also Alt-tabbing to windows desktop takes the game out of fullscreen mode. It's kinda annoying, ¨

  • Would like to see more objects on the road, like people and animals and "inner road track" as you see in this picture: http://games.softpedia.com/screenshots/Richard-Burns-Rally-Demo_4.jpg is looks much better than track of the rally cars who is in the middle of the road in a turn.

  • More cars. WRC WRC!! And please WRC Toyota Yaris 2018. It looks so awesome!

  • A mode where you are able to create your own rally team a and design your own car etc..

  • Replay mode

  • Mabye random crashed cars on stages. And that you can drive past cars like in the other Dirt games. Beacuse you feel so alone in Dirt Rally world right now.

After more thinking and watching footage on YouTube I found some more points to give feedback on.

Active spectators
They look not very active. Maybe give them a bit more live with campsite fires and bengal torches (with smoke effects), horns or cowbells, flashes from cameras, etc. Maybe make this location unique. Every culture or country's have their unique fans and attributes. 

Vehicle classes menu
I like the menus in overall, though I don't really like the vehicle classes menu. Hope this will be changed to something different and has more the same style as the other menus.

Vehicle repair menu
I get the idea of the repair menu with the percentages, but I believe it is not really realistic. How do you want to improve your bodywork with one percent? It's more a question of repairing (or quick fix with tape), servicing or replacing with new parts. Same goes for wheels. You get a fresh set of tyres on new rims. You can't add a percentage of rubber on an existing wheel.

Maybe the best example are the brakes. You can see a percentage of how good the brakepads or discs still are. When they are about 40% left, they are critical, so than it's a choice of replacing them or not. You can't improve a brakedisc with 5 percent. 

Also when you are between rallies the car needs to get completly fixed and get ready and prepared for the next rally, that also costs money. 

Vehicle setup menu
This early version of the menu looks good. Though I miss a few things. You can't see any values. Also there are no vertical stripes to suggest if you are in the middle or 25%, etc. Next to that as most of use a button for the handbrake, maybe there can also be a setup option for the handbrake setting, how strong it should be when you press the button. I also miss downforce (though I don't really know if this is really adjustable with f.e. the WRC cars) , ride hight and tyre choice. Otherwise maybe a quick set-up menu overview, and next to that a more detailed set-up menu?

Flat tyre / spare tyres?
When you get a flat tyre on the stage maybe you can replace it, but you get a penalty of 30 seconds. Or you have the choice to continue, so the flat tyre will be replaced between the stages. Also in the set-up menu you can choose how many spare tyres (one or two) you take with you. Between the stages you have the option to change the older tyres with fresh ones. This might bring tactical decision in events. 

Active service area
Just like in V-Rally 3. You see the service area where you can watch your mechanics working on your car, the weather report and the upcoming stages, choose your tyres, think about set-up changes (limited amount of changes between stages, unlimited before the rally and at the end of every rally day), etc. Also when you are in the beginning of your career there are not so many fans, but when you progress there are more and more fans.

Spot on sir. Running the same stage multiple times in a single rally, I don't mind so much, but using sections of a stage AND the full one means it can kill immersion over an event. I realise this is going to be the most difficult thing for the devs to do though.
