DIRT Rally - CUSTOM LIVERIES, MODS & TOOLS, DISCUSSION ETC.

Yep! Of course if they put MY name on it and that of my co-driver Alan Bee, then maybe I'd think differently...though I doubt it.

Volkswagen Polo Rally - Alister McRae & David Senior

Based on the Volkswagen Golf MK3 Kit Car driven by Alister McRae and David Senior back in 1999.
I especially like the sparkling blue color and the bright yellow wheels, Pirelli logos and the awesome cool same colored name of Alister McRae and David Senior on the windows, very retro, and it completes the car in every way, very cool in it´s simplicity, kudos to the designer back then who choose these colors.

You can download the custom livery here:

Just uploaded a local kiwi's escort to RD. Made a replica version from Rally Whangarei this year and a generic one for those who prefer that.
Hope you enjoy!

Nice one, edgenz! I take it the generic version without names on the windows was a very simple matter? ;)

I'd imagine this was initially a displeased post, but I can assure you that my previous comment was in jest. I like your liveries and have downloaded and used most of them. I'd just like the Polo better without the names on the windows. Sorry! No need to throw frying pans after me! :D

FYI I have not asked anybody to alter your skin for me yet - and not sure whether I will, either.

Didn't think I'd be causing dramas.
*looks for post where hoonhead said editing for personal use would be fine. all posts now edited... backs away slowly*

In all reality - nothing at all. But it would be disrespectful if it was published against his wishes.

In my earlier readme files I used to tell people they're welcome to edit for personal use, but to please give credit if using it as the basis for another work. I've had liveries totally ripped and uploaded to RD with no credit provided. I did ask them to credit me at the time, as from my perspective it's a way of showing some thanks for the effort saved. For this reason I'll always check to see and respect if someone is asking for their work not be be modified without their permission. (Hence looking for Hoonheads' post above to double check i didn't misread it - but now I'll never know).

Personally, I've since removed that stuff from my readme's - as we're all modifying work of CM and using companies brands without any kind of permission, so we can't really claim "copyright" ourselves. It's all for the enjoyment of the community so I don't really mind at all how you guys use my files.

It just wouldn't be cricket, and particularly disrespectful (personal use, and edited personally is obviously irrelevant, no one can police that)

Regardless the source material, the original person put hard work and time into recreating it for us.  I think the one grievance anyone should have is claiming the entire skin as their own creation.

That person should be stoned, until dead.

Looking forward to finally getting back into designing for DiRT after so long.
Just a couple of screenshots for now, the Lancia Stratos of Steve Perez in Wales Rally GB spec, and the Hyundai i20 AP4 of Hayden Paddon for his NZRC Campaign.
With the help of @edgenz who I cant thank enough, we have managed to bring my original design to DiRT Rally :)

@StealthSCG those looks great! Looking forward to seeing more from you!

A new one from me:
MG Metro 6R4 33 Export
download from Racedepartment

Didier Auriol's 33 Export-sponsored Metro that he used in the 1986 Rallye de Garrigues. I'm not sure if I got the colors right, as in some pictures the paint looked orange, and in some it looked red. Probably more towards red in the original car, and I think I got a pretty nice shade in the end. I might do Auriol's Sierra as well in the future..

@mcmattila  Looks good.  The top picture.. The German overdone color pallet really make it look like its super-saturated.  Glad it looks near perfect in Greece.

I hate they did that to Germany..

I like the livery it's nice to see some of these more obscure ones pop up now.

My first livery. As you know I have been asking a long time for this livery so I've made it. Very happy with my first one, learning a lot for next ones. Thanks to Meerkat for his tutorials and to #UD# for his awesome Prototype MINI which I've used as basis.

Anybody know if it's possible to tweak the original sounds? I don't want to replace them, just tweak.

Imo there is too much engine note inside many of the cars compared to transmission sound. Esp the 4WD cars.

Paul told me once that with a helmet on this is pretty accurate.  However the WRC cars do need some external tweaking, the dog box is quite loud in RL.

In a perfect world we could tweak the volume of individual sounds like in R3E. If you want louder transmission, there's a slider to adjust. More engine? Just crank that slider up!

Some update on the custom pacenotes reader:
We've got the automatic stage detection working with extradata="3", but unfortunately some stages have exact same distance for their reverse versions so there will be a checkbox enabled for such stages to choose pacenotes for the reverse version. Stages can be also choosen manually.

Second thing is countdown - it was working until we've discovered that some of the new stages from Finland and Sweden are sending current distance as 0 before the start of stage - on all other stages the distance is between range of -1.01 to -0.75 (depending on the car and stage, there could be edge cases as well). This is listed as a need-to-fix bug, at the moment without much idea how to approach it to avoid countdown in the service area (on older stages the distance in service area is around -15m so the animation of reaching the start line can be done).
Edit; well, maybe mapping a position x at start line for each car will do the job. Listing it...

Keep up the work!   I see you could be building a library for access to this functionality?  It would be great to output to an adruino display or something like that, would be KA for my racepit.
