DIRT Rally - CUSTOM LIVERIES, MODS & TOOLS, DISCUSSION ETC.

Recommended Posts

It's licensing, think about it, they cannot use a lot of cars because of that, however, in some cases, if enough is different from the car that they're not allowed to use, it's no longer a car they cant use, and the amount those differences need to be different by will vary.

Lime they can't use any WRC car, for starters the name can't include wrc, and the difference in body shape or details has to be enough for the manufacturers to agree it doesn't infringe on the models they care about.

A question for the real life rally maniacs:
of all the Impreza N14 teams and liveries and drivers, do you know if there was one that could be picked as the more important, maybe for the wins, for the driver or the livery resembling the official colors, or maybe because it was backed by Subaru itself?

The Pastrana livery would work, USA car though

Mark Higgins/ Eamonn Boland drove the JRM Impreza R4 on world events, but it was 4 door, so the livery would need adapted

Definitely a David Higgins/Craig Drew livery. They've won 5 RallyAmerica titles in a row now!

I don't have much familiarity with the WRX versions. Are they all N14? If latest wins are on N15 what are the differences? Game model is N14 right?

None are N14, they are SRT USA "N13", it's production based like the N14, but there's tons of differences (also it doens't fit the N4 class at all)

^^This is the SRT USA car^^

^^This is the Prodrive N14^^

EDIT: Pastrana's car from 2006 and 2007 were in fact a N12 Impreza

Yes, and with the game comes the N14 performance class Impreza, with this "US Open Class" body kit, because licencing.

This is per Vermont Sportscar Specs:
It seems all Subaru VT prepped cars use the designation VTxr (x=year), this includes VT15r as the 2015.  So the game model coming from DiRT3 is VT9r, since it does not incorporate the extra wide fenders.

Based on what @kickup has said, it is a VT9r model with N14 handling and engine specs, so honestly you could do whatever you would like.  Really there are enough differences with all the in game models from RL (example Perrez Focus) you can use whatever artistic license that you are comfortable with.

I would love to see a couple of Higgins Liveries from over the last few years, but none of them have ran outside of the US either, same with a few other cars in the game that never famously ran a particular event that is represented in the game.

From what I have gathered from @BrySkye it seems that he enjoys flight sims as well, he could tell you all about all the different WW2 fighter variants that people count the rivets to make sure they are period correct and that certain field mods are not introduced in a campaign in the wrong year.  Happily we do not have THAT kind of scrutineering even with the recent wing blowup.

I hope I have not stirred the pot, and rambled too much.  But you make great skins and I'll take what I can get.  :)

Having lots of fun here with old car models!

I just tried a car from dirt showdown and I found it has wheels on tarmac tracks, but no wheels on gravel tracks. Is there any fix possible for this?

Cheers!

You MUST count rivets.

You tempt me too much... WWII is a bit further back than my areas of expertise. Couldn't tell you much about those.
3rd generation military jets and onwards are more my field, with a speciality in the Harrier. =p So field modding isn't really part of the equation, but there's always a bunch of variants. Some have visible external differences, with some it's literally all under the skin and can only be verified by serial number.
Don't really do much actual flight simming now, it's a lot of work setting up yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals, etc.
Was also where I did, well, all of my own texturing projects.
Nice thing about FS2004 was that it supported straight up 32-bit BMP. No compression at all.
Sure, a single 1024x1024 texture was 4MB and so a single complete skin could be 120MB, but easy as hell to edit and adjust.

Though with all this talk of licenses just recently, I still find it amusing that DiRT Rally has a identifiable Tornado IDS in it.
I really don't think it has been licensed from Panavia.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I only mention things like the oversized wheels on a couple cars because it makes we wonder how accurate replays are in regards to what the car is actually doing. And not just some generic 3d model that has a number of canned effects applied to it to generate the replay. Then again, it's hard to be sure given that the viewing tools and angles during a replay are so restricted. So we know based on this new Subaru model that things happening aren't entirely based on the actual model. And then we have things like this:

In most cases, it's the licensing that restricts how accurately you can replicate something. They get license for a model from a certain year and a certain motorsport group... they can replicate visually only it, not something almost like it.

The performance that they put into cars is then tuned for what the class the car is in. Practically, you could make 4 wheels with a huge ball between them without any diffs, axles, suspension etc. behave like any of the cars in game. In other words you could have every car in existence in the game in terms of handling and performance, but as long as you don't have the licensing... you can't visually recreate them.

I'm actually QC for an aircraft manufacturer and have literally wasted days of my life checking rivets. hehe Judging by the distance of those rivets to the edge of the skins, that hughes racer looks like a fake replica. I got to see a flying replica at Oshkosh a few days before it crashed in Colorado.  What does this have to do with modding? lol

Update on the Warsteiner M3. Got most of the sponsors in, most of the livery is almost done as well (right side is still missing) with some small adjustments needed here and there to match nicely. Kind of difficult since I need to adjust everything to a different body, which isn't easy when you have no idea which part on the texture are responsible for what, as can be seen with lack of paint on the mirrors and roof scoop.

Most likely next update will be the full version. Shouldn't take too much more time though.

Citroen C4 confirmed! I love that, one of the best rally cars ever made.

A few of my personal favourite liveries, anyone planning on making them? Would love it!

Edited:
I basically made 99% ok maybe more like 90% of the official 2009 Redbull livery before the update release, so expect a release very soon (but not today).

@hoonhead Jeroen Swaanen drove a C4 WRC here in the Netherlands, likely to see it in DiRT? Or perhaps petter Solbergs yellow C4 WRC?
