DIRT Rally - CUSTOM LIVERIES, MODS & TOOLS, DISCUSSION ETC.

Recommended Posts

As mentioned before, here's the file for my Subaru Impreza Group A 1995:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/rd9hggv71gpphfo/impreza-95-mcrae.7z (release 1)
edit: Also posted here: http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/subaru-impreza-1995-group-a-mcrae.105796/ with screens from replay and the actual texture files.

Just a little summary:
-Colin's car from '95 Wales rally
-custom race number with DR logo (don't see a point racing in Greece with a NetworkQ Rally sticker...), the font number by the way is the right one
-main texture+specular+glass, main is 4096x4096
-accurate Repsol color palette (apparently, Subaru used a purpleish blue as background that is just the Repsol blue) e yellow-fluo stickers
-rare logos made from scratch
-added parts: bumper light pod holes, side skirt holes, bumper bolts

I didn't get the roof 555 circle logo perfect, will be fixed sometime soon (if you have a good real picture from the top, send it please). Also I didn't touch the roll cage or the frame which are both still grey (should be blue). Feedback is welcome, let me know. Cheers.

There are already two Colin's "555" liveries available both in 2k and 4k, so it's great that You decided to make a high-rez ")))" one. We can finally replace 2k rip of this livery we've been using up to that point. Thanks.

How do I get the names on the glass were not transparent?
Edit the alpha channel. White is opaque and black is fully transparent. So in your case, text would be colored in white in the alpha channel.

I started from this one because I've skinned so many Imprezas on RBR working directly with modelers (I was nicknamed rivers at the time, working with eddy3spain and JRodriguez), but ironically I couldn't use practically anything from my old library. So here it is: my first DR skin.

 Heeeeeyy Rivers, oh my, I can't believe it's you! World is sooo small. So greaat to see you back man!! You was the best skin maker back in the days at blackhole motorsports. Do you remember me? I've helped J.Rodriguez in making the right proportions for the Focus RS WRC '06 and many others. Again, it's so nice to see you here, I've no doubt your contribution to this community will really help and be invaluable. I hope you'll enjoy this game for a long time to come and that your passion for making skins will stay!! I'm with you 110% and really looking forward to what you will come up with next! So great to see you back mate, I'm really happy. If you accept request for skins, tell me I have some historical liveries in mind I would really like to see in the game. Cheers bud!! :)

World isn't small when a decent rally game comes every 10 years. Glad to see you here! I'm not sure about what to do next: maybe a group B, maybe the Escort (Repsol and/or Martini), still thinking about it :neutral:

 A 4k Repsol Escort has already been done, but.. we've got only one historic livery for Group-B Lancia S4... but sadly, it ain't the iconic Martini one. Just a suggestion ;) :D.

@jayp666  if you look back to page 5, two of designs you sugested are already created and also a few others historic skins can be found at link page 2 :) I think, we really need Steam Workshop or something like that to keep eye on all skins, that have been crated...

When you make a post, there are icons above it (B I S etc), click the one that looks like a piece of paper with a folded over corner, enter the url of your pic in there

OK, now I know how to insert images [Thank you McCrash :smiley: ]...

A none rally livery I've been working on for a week or so [nearly finished]. Based on Tom Coronel's current WTCC DHL livery... Why? I work for DHL and thought It'd be a good starting point.

EDIT ... currently working around the front wheel arches with the ERU Premium logo, both halves are aligned [real pain] and onto making the surounding area look like swiss cheese...

I have yet to find a skin without some readme file with instructions...

...but You can just look at the downloaded filenames, find the same files in DR folder and overwrite them. Mind You, only 3D model gets repainted, car pics in the game's livery menu remain stock, so You have to remember which default slot You've just replaced with a new skin.

:smiley: Few, think I'm just about done on this one. I'll see how everyone else is packaging their work, then will make it available through RaceDepartment over the coming weekend.

I'm posting back something that I wrote in a thread that just died, because I believe it's important (and because I spent time writing and thinking on it):

Speaking of templates: I already made a request in the mod/skinning thread. From one side it's something quite easy to make available to the community because they must have them already in their hand to actually skin the cars we play in the game. But on the other side, they are probably thinking about the chances of increase of support and broken games that can occur if you do something wrong with the files (which is VERY likely). Also, to skin we need the Ego PSSG Editor which is basically a HACK to extract and pack resources. If they want to make skinning "official", they need an official tool too, and infos, and library, and support, and annoying threads about every kind of broken games to help fix. The only way I see they could release templates is unofficialy, not hosted on CM servers and offering ZERO support.

I thought about making one or two templates of the cars I'm working on it actually, but I stopped when I realized how difficult it is without having a wireframe layer  . The wire is in fact the main reason we need a template coming from the devs hands. If you're not familiar, is a layer that you disable when saving the file, that shows the polygon boundaries of the UV mapping. Example here, from iRacing: http://i.imgur.com/IFJbhAf.png
Also, without an in-game showroom section like the one from Dirt 3 is still very hard (read: time consuming) to check the skin.

To sum it up:
Please Codemasters, release the templates (with wireframe) unofficialy, we will support ourselves  .

New livery for DiRT Rally on my site https://dirtitashaguy.wordpress.com/liveries-dirt-rally/  a Working!!/Popura Peugeot 205 for a friend of mine! Also updated some DiRT 3 liveries, so if you're an Idolm@ster fan, have a look!

image here because I can never get the darn image upload thing to work, sadly... (could it be Chrome? IDK): https://dirtitashaguy.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/2015-05-23_00018.jpg

Almost done. Giving final touches and trying to find impossible logos.
It's 4k native with lot of detail missing from both the Dirt 3 livery and the Dirt Rally new high res template (glass too).

Another shot and some notes:

Peugeot 205 T16 Evolution 2
class: Group B
year: 1985
driver/copilot: Timo Salonen/Seppo Harjanne

Features:
-accurate reproduction of the Evolution 2 used in 1985 and 1986 seasons;
-sponsor configuration from the Timo Salonen 1985 version (group B world champion 1985)
-main texture: all new & native 4k, added rivets, skirt, bolts and other small parts;
-rare logos, some made from scratch (like the impossible to find Peugeot text which was different from any other official Peugeot logos, recreated with the correct vintage font and the same wrong letter spacing; also the vintage Aerospatiale logo, 205 Turbo badge and Speedline);
-glass: full riveted windows and side vent/opening, non transparent parts (side & back), accurate Pug Talbot Sport logo on sun screen;
-specular: lowered reflections on parts and body; corrected alpha (grille lighter and logo more visible);
-lights: corrected saturation

Full package soon...
