DIRT Rally - CUSTOM LIVERIES, MODS & TOOLS, DISCUSSION ETC.

Well observed, the reason for these issues (distant terrain partially not affected by mod, road color slightly inbalanced)  is down to the fact that so far I've not been able to locate and/or access the respective files where the ground cover textures (apart from grass) for the road and lighting parameters for distant landscape lighting are stored. The funny thing is that the two major German rally stages (which are then only divided into several smaller stages which share the same assets as the longer one) actually differ quite a lot in terms of lighting, thus also requiring different values in parameters and different tweaks to the respective textures.

That said, all the stages from within the 'panzerplatte_rally_01' folder (Frauenberg is the long stage here, Kreuzungsring one of ther shorter iirc) have far less issues with incorrect lighting than their counterparts in the 'panzerplatte_rally_02' folder, where either distant terrain lighting, medium distance trees (especially noticeable in forest sections) or the road color are somewhat off. I've already tried experimenting with some settings that sounded like they could do the trick, but unfortunately I haven't been able to figure it out.

So, what really surprised me was the difference in lighting even within a single location's stages even though they share the same settings for the same conditions (e.g. sunny/midday) and apparently look pretty much identical in the default game. There's quite a lot of files I haven't had a look at yet, but I guess some specific settings could easily be locked away elsewhere.
@Gethema Sounds like something that @urgaffel could share some light onto. Please forgive the pun.

Anyway, as it stands I'm not gonna be using the mod. I personally prefer to have one fully "not perfect" look, than one that is half perfect and half not perfect. The changes really do break the immersion when the road in front of you suddenly changes the colour. If you need some help testing things, I'll be delighted to help.

Oh, and one last thing. The installation files could've been better grouped and be made simply as "copy, paste, forget", not "copy, paste, copy more, paste a lot more". I don't mind downloading a bigger file. After all, this is quite a huge mod. Oh, and the different sky box doesn't want to uninstall.

@meerkat80

That is great to see this!

Is there a away to get rid of the chrome exhaust?  It should just be silver or charcoal.  This is nothing to do with your skin.  I keep seeing these great skins and then the default chrome exhausts, drives me nuts.  I think all the Lancia's have bright chrome exhaust, no for rally.

Are you planing on any other Higgins Subarus?

@gfRally I made this one because was my absolute favourite from all Impreza (at least from the Rally America spec which has the correct body).

I started months ago a conversion from the Pastrana livery from the same period and with the same color scheme, but I got stuck somehow. And the main reason I didn't do an Impreza SRT USA N13 before was because of two very good skins made by Howitzer from RD (Higgins and Pastrana from 2014).

I know they both have other nice liveries from other years but frankly to me having three good skins to play with is good enough for now.

It'll be in the texture map somewhere. Darkening it in the textures while brightening it in the specular map should make it less chrome.
That said, I don't think it's strictly wrong on the Lancia's per se.
We're talking about Italians after all.
Just IRL, they got discoloured incredibly quickly once they start spitting fire, which isn't something the game can reflect.

its very possible to remove the chrome effect, i made some kinda chrome (not full chrome but shiny metal) on some of my skins, mostly when making metal plates around the exaust

@YorAlcoholicDad Do the helmets support bump or normal mapping for the carbon fiber? Could help the carbon fiber look more real and less like a texture/sticker.

havent tried that, mostly because most of the carbon helmets iv seen have a clear coat over the carbon witch remove the effect that the bump map would give, but ill test that for the next packs

Carbon fibre plays with light depending on the thread/weave direction. It's kind of like a crosshatch anisitropic effect. (I work with carbon fiber a lot) I can't quite remember if it's normal or bump, but there is a way to get the textures to do that light play.

Is there any possibility to change the livery thumbnails showed on the car select option/section? A tool for that or simply the name of the file that is responsible for the thumbnails.

It's impossible at this moment.

Latvala's car is the older "UR-Quattro",  not the Sport Quattro.
Maybe so, but this is a game. :) If someone wants to do it, there's nothing to stop them.
We have an Evo IV style livery on the Evo X for example, and it's awesome.
As is the older red Martini Racing livery from the Delta V16 on the games Evoluzione.

Ryu, you yourself stuck a Martini livery on the newer Focus, so I dunno why you're agreeing with Forza! :P

@Gethema I noticed few things while testing your mod. Using it without Re-shade since I find the game to have just about right amount of vibrance, saturation and contrast. Very realistic like, not Photoshop improved like. Increased vibrance and saturation is good for fantasy games, not really for racing simulators.

Anyway, back to the point, there's a slight blue feel coming from the road as well as the colour overhaul not working on the roads that are further away from you. Easily noticeable on Ruschberg for example. Is there any possibility to fix that or is it simply down to how game does stuff and you can't do anything about it?

I actually kinda like that it doesn't change it further ahead, except for the road itself turning yellowish as well.
It creates some nice images because the colours look layered.

Cause the old Quattro is ugly as fuck, along with me not particularly liking that livery, while the Martini one fits the '07/08/09 Focus (or simply put Mk2 Focus) surprisingly well o.O I'm still shocked how well it suits the car. Maybe even better than the original one or the Ford Transit :D

Might be, but visually looks just like the sport quattro in game. Would be a badass livery imo as a Finn.

Yes, understand with you.  ;)
I found a very similar livery made by Mesa (of my country's legendary driver Attila Ferjáncz's car).
The original was an UR-Quattro too... :)
