So maybe Codemasters could be pressured to port some existing licenses and cars that are already done in GRID2 and GRID Autosport.
Cars can be ported, licenses can't. You have to go through the process from scratch, costs and all.
We've already seen the limitations of that as Audi did allow different liveries on the two versions of the Quattro in DiRT3, but in DiRT Rally one of their license conditions is that only the one approved official livery can be used.
Yes, I understand that, But I do think they have on going relationships with some of the manufactures.  I know its easier said or typed and it takes a boat of lawyers to agree on stuff like this.

What I meant by liveries and I should have been more clear, I meant no superglossymetallictriplecolor... blah blah blah..  just stuff like we have now even generic liveries,  just so the cars look like they are part of the event, not transplanted from said game.

None of this will really happen anyhow officially, they don't have the cash to throw around like once before, hope you guys in the mod community can do it right.

I wasn't really referring to liveries, just the fact that cars being licensed to appear in one Codemasters game doesn't make it any easier to get them into another game. The whole licensing process has to start from scratch as the license is specific to each title, rather than to Codies as a studio.
Which is all about how much money changes hands (looking at you Electronic Arts and Porsche).
The reason I brought up Audi was that it demonstrates this quite clearly, since in going through the licensing process for DiRT Rally, they had different conditions this time from previous Codies racers, which highlights that its a completely separate set of negotiations, etc.

I made a Splatoon Ford Escort Cosworth for a friend, so if you're a Nintendo fan here's your ride!

Nice Splatoon livery there, though the link for it doesn't actually contain the body textures.

There's a download link on that page, but here's a direct one instead: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/gbkdgmf32gj1d/%5BDiRT_Rally_Splatoon_Ford_Escort%5D_textures_high

What is going on here? I wrote a kilometric post two times with lot of content and it didn't get approved. It contained FOUR skins, a tutorial on skinning and a summary of the most relevant skin released by the community. Can't see how this can't be approved.................

What do you mean meerkat...you got your post deleted or what? Btw just want to say a big thank you for taking time to write and put together this tutorial...it's very helpful for me. I do read what you write on your blog but was just too lazy to post any comment. I'm visiting it daily. Good work!

I would say its the Tutorial you posted because Codemaster's don't support mods and telling people how to edit the database is illegal in their eyes. :)

There was a thing yesterday where I couldn't post to the last page of a topic, but I could post if I used the comment box on an earlier page in that topic.
Specifically it was the one about how achievements unlock.
Think the forums occasionally just get a bit funky.

Though on this thought...

I made three other skins:
Peugeot 205 T16 Evo2 1986 Kankunnen v1
Peugeot 205 T16 Evo2 1985 Salonen v2
Subaru Impreza 555 “)))” 1995 Sainz v1
Everytime a post a link, the board tells me "the post will be posted when it's approved" or something like that. Which is NEVER. So no links. You just know they exist. Somewhere.

There's nothing I can share, that would just be redistributing the DiRT3 3D model/textures of the Celica and various DiRT Rally 555 Impreza files, etc,
Which is a monumental no-no.

It's not too complicated, just the DiRT Rally Impreza dressed up as a Celica, in turn replacing the Audi Quattro Pikes Peak.
No new or modified files, just renaming some of the DiRT 3 Celica files, such as the model and textures, to be loaded in place of 555 Impreza ones. Things like handling & performance, etc, are identical to the Impreza, since it's the closest you'll get.
Then renaming those files to be loaded instead of the Audi Pikes Peak to get it into the Hill Climb events.
Overall, it's remarkably compatible. Things like the aerials still flex. Just some issues with the various lights which are very dark. Specular issues too I think. Often looks too bright in direct light.
The Celica interior can be loaded into the 555 Impreza for rally events, but will cause a CTD with the Quattro in Hill Climb.

Its not something I actually recommend at all, nor is it something I have in place apart from a few screenshots and a video.
Just my 'last resort' if this car and livery isn't officially added down the line.

I had a go at importing liveries and 3D from other Codemasters games, i found out you can use cars from DiRT2, DiRT3, DiRT Showdown, Grid2 and Grid Autosport. Sometimes i had issues with missing wheels and sometimes had issues with the interior. You also need to redo some camera angles if you wanne use all the camera angles available in DiRT Rally the correct way.

because of all these issues i also will not release some of my work i already did but you can have a go yourself, it did the following:

for exterior 3D copy the following:
lowLOD.pssg
highLOD.pssg
AO.pssg
anim_dummies.pssg
ppts
nd2

rename them with the folder extension, for example an evo 9 from dirt2 e9r and reaname it to DiRT Rally ffr.

ctf can be changed within DiRT Rally, if you use ctf from other game it can give your trouble as with the sound so only use banks and bundles within DiRT Rally. btw do not forget to rename the files correctly.

To get the correct livery copy the one you want and rename them, copy the _tex_tm_high_00.pssg and rename it to _tex_tw_high_00.pssg so you have 4 wheel files.

I tried and had a Dallenbach from DiRT2, a Nissan S13 from grid autosport  with the sound of a Ford Fiesta and the handling from a Lancia Delta S4 :-) and i made a lot of DiRT3 cars.

Btw the issues mentioned by BrySky i did not really have but maybe it depends on what car you use, i also did not a full test so maybe i would run into them eventually.

Finally i can say that the DiRT3 cars work best and give you the least issues.

Maybe if i have more time i see if i can fix the issues but for the moment i can´t so have a go yourself, it is save as long as you backup your files so you can put back the game to a normal state or off course you can let steam fix your game but a backup is always faster and better.

Seeing how DiRT Rally re-uses DiRT 3 car models, I did this.
Never realized how crisp 4K skins are until you put them in D3.

Really hoping the old WRC cars make it into the game; especially seeing as codies already has the models (;

Does anyone know how to align stripes along the top of the car when skinning? Like from the front bumper, to the hood, the roof, the trunk, and then to the rear bumper?
I'm trying to create a Ravenwest skin and I'm very keen on making it virtually pixel perfect (somehow). I'm having a hard time with the jumbled up mapping as opposed to the symmetric mapping seen in other games however.

There are no easy tricks. The only way it's by trial and error: checking, adjusting, checking, adjusting, repeat until you're exhausted. You can speed up the process a little by placing temporary elements to be used as reference (colored boxes, lines, etc.).
(Are you using the alpha from the specular map in multiply...?)

Almost ready.
When I saw the mapping on the rear wheel arches (with the diagonal big Repsol writing) I thought I was never going to skin this car. But somehow...
(It's the 1996 swedish version, if someone cares)
