Formula 1 TV Coverage Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah, as Vettelfan said, they have more sectors on track, but the viewer only sees the 3 sectors. I think they are in like 200 metre sections, so yeah, he was probably correct when Crofty said that.
Think they also call each flag point a sector too?

I noticed last year at Monaco the onboard graphic (rev counter etc) was delayed, probably down to the amount of changes the cars make. See if they fix it this year.

Looking at the Austrian GP Preview images, I think the camera that goes along a long wire along a section of track is coming back, so that should be cool.

Also, I'm expecting a lot of CGI adverts this weekend with the masses of fields and trees around the track.

Yeah, as I thought, a stupid amount of CGI adverts this weekend at Austria.
T1) Allianz advert on inside grass at pit exit
T3) Massive Rolex advert on inside grass bank
T4/T5) Big Fly Emirates advert on inside grass
T5/T6) Another big Fly Emirates advert on the inside grass from another angle

Gotta be honest though, they are pretty subtle this weekend which is good, unlike the ones last time at Canada which stood out like a sore thumb, as they say.

Hate it when our local channel starts televising 10 minutes before the lights go out according to the tv guide.

I sat there and just hushed 'oh my god' under my breath :p

The CGI ads were pretty good today to be fair, very subtle.

I've just been looking through some old forums that were discussing who the BBC coverage team should be for 2009, someone, in all seriousness, put this:

Main Presenter: Richard Hammond

Co-presenter: Mark Blundell

Pit-lane Interviews: Martin Brundle & Ted Kravitz

Commentary Team: David Croft & Eddie Irvine

That sounds horrific!!

I don't know if i'd be able to put up with Irvine for more than 10 minutes on TV.

She has been alright at Silverstone, however she nearly slipped into bike mode by saying it's so hard to get a "ride err drive" in F1 :p

TBH I'd like:

Presenter: Lee McKenzie
Pundits: EJ and DC
Commentators: Ben Edwards, David Coulthard and Ian Phillips
Pit lane: Gary Anderson
Interviewers: Natalie Pinkham and Tom Clarkson

Button could make a good commentator too when he retires:

Suzi Perry is awful! Doesn't matter which race, she's terriblle :p

But I do like your line-up @fIsince08, been saying since even before Perry got the job that it should be Lee McKenzie's. When she filled in for Jake I always though she did a fine job, much better than Suzi Perry's ever done.

You forgot Ted Kravitz. Seriously. Ted Kravitz is the best presenter in F1. Perhaps is all of sport.

Eddie Jordan is the only member of the BBC crew I'd take over their Sky counterparts. In fact, lets make a vote of it:

Pick your prefered from each category:

Presenter: Simon Lazenby v Suzi Perry
Commentator: David Croft v Ben Edwards
Co-comm: Martin Brundle v David Coulthard
Pundit: Johnny Herbert vs Eddie Jordan
Pit-Lane: Ted Kravitz vs Lee McKenzie
Analyst: Anthony Davidson vs Alan McNish
Occasional: Bruno Senna vs Mark Webber
Writer: Mark Hughes vs Andrew Benson

I like Ted's presenting skills but prefer Gary as the tech guy purely because he was really in F1.

But for your vote:
Suzi (just)
Ben
DC
EJ
Tie
Ant
Mark
Mark

I think Eric Silverman need to be hired by someone. One of the few James Hunt like pundits that aren't afraid to speak their mind.

Dream F1 coverage team:

Presenter: Jake Humphrey (if he didn't go off to BT Sport)
Pundit 1: Mark Webber
Pundit 2: David Coulthard
Pundit 3: Jonathan Noble (if you don't know who he is, he does a lot of stuff for Autosport. I think it would be so good to have a pundit who hasn't been a driver, someone who knows what to write about, someone who is an 'expert' on the sport. He's done some stuff with Sky F1 before and he's been pretty good, so I'd have him
Commentator: Ben Edwards
Co-commentator: Martin Brundle
Pit Lane: Ted Kravitz
Analyst: Anthony Davidson
Interviews: Lee McKensie

I was going to try and pick the worst team, then realised most of them are at the BBC.

Whoops, I've just realised that I meant Ian Phillips rather than Eric Silverman when I did my post.  :s

My only comments on the TV coverage is that the BBC are an absolute joke, with only 9 live races a year.

The only why to bypass this is to get a Sky Sports subscription which costs an absolute fortune.

Frankly I think with the BBC being one of the biggest, if not THE biggest broadcasting company in the world they should be able to show every race live like a few years ago.

This thing which annoys me most is that I always seem to find out who has got pole/the win before I actually get to watch the race due to Facebook or The news etc.

Really annoys me...
