Our Wheel Settings - Direct from the Car Handling Team

i dont expect the whole wheel to shake around non stop on gravel, but after landing a jump i would expect a solid jolt to the wheel, that would really intensify the sim experience.
As Bogani mentioned that landing jolt is there now.
Unfortunately, those jolts to the steering rack are about all I can feel most of the time.

The game I keep comparing this to is DiRT 2.
I can feel exactly what the car is doing at all times in DiRT 2, with my eyes closed.
That feeling isn't as pronounced in DiRT 3, and is nearly absent in this game.

with an Accuforce wheel we have to used a hacked file to get it working however once working it is good because we can bypass the game FFB and use the physics data to create in the simcommander software.

However due to the way CM codes the recognition of devices, it sees the Accuforce Wheel as a joystick type device, not a wheel, therefore the Clutch on my pedals will not work.

I really hope CM are going to totally, as in 100%, overhaul the controller/FFB code from what they have done in the past. Every other current racing title has this figured out on day one simply because the controller input on a racing game is the one thing you need to get right from the get-go. Imagine Guitar Hero without the guitar controller ?  yeah it was utter sheizen on a gamepad !

Guys. You are recomending 270 degrees in a game aimed for simulation. Seriously?

And the stock FFB is the way to go? Nothing has been mixed up or anything? If this is the case i'm truly disapointed. The stock FFB is lifeless with lacking information. And the wheel forces are fighting back when it shoul do the opposite!

Same here for me.... I also agree with 540 being the most popular ..but personal preference is important when setting up a car

what is important is that when you put input into the car it does what you expect it to do ... and if it doesn't hopefully you can tweak it to your driving style.

540 is MINIMUM ... something like a RWD, Ford Escort MK2 has to be 900 ... some of those irish rally drivers in their escorts are cranking the wheel 3 times over on hairpins... just saying.

you guys at codemasters say that you want to build the game along side the players to build the best game you can, and one that we want to play. yet you are ignoring our plea for decent force feedback effects. we want 900% steering with ffb  so you actually feel something like steering fx slip fx and the humps in the road, that would be amazing in this game. yet you offer us 270% with low ffb settings. wtf.  if your not going to listen to us gamers what was the point of getting us involved. ????????????
If you bothered to read through the forums you'd find out that the team are working on the FFB and a patch will be available soon with some new settings.
actually there was no news at the time of me writing this comment. and i only wanted more for the game. today i can see that more options have been added, and it now feels superb. codemasters am sorry i ever doubted you. there has just been so many games latley that have let us all down, and when i saw this game i really wanted the best for it. great work with latest patch. as of today sunday 5th july. game feels tons better really great feeling to the wheel. id like more feeling to road surface thou. but i do like the way your wheel feels now when cornering, feels very realistic.

No.. the force feedback in Dirt 2 was much much better. than it was in dirt 3
I've been saying exactly that since release day.
The feedback in DiRT 2 relayed much more information about what the car was doing than what they used in DiRT 3, and are using in DiRT Rally.

Force feedback isn't just about accurately simulating the forces on the steering rack through the wheel.
You also have to convey other forces that are relayed by the driver's equilibrium in real life.
Finally i found someone who agrees. dirt 2 was awesome. am really liking what they have done lately with dirt rally. nice side to side steering feeling. but i cant feel road surfaces on wheel at all. could be4. that seems to have gone now. but maybe its my settings. ? yes dirt 2 was one of the best force feedback racing games ever. you truly got a realistic feel for what the car was doing and could react to every corner. i still go back to dirt 2. love it. dirt 3 just feels wrong. dirt rally hoping things can only get better from here.

I have a probably dumb question; why is auto centering "frowned upon" - this seems like a force you experience whilst driving a car, and although I am all for a light FF experience to better handle the wheel, it's not intuitive for me to manually reset the wheel to centre.

Is the centering force considered to an effect that should be handled by the FF code, and thus enabling it in the Logitech driver wrong??

I prefer settings that make me go fast, but I would like FF to act as close to life as possible as well.

its not a dumb question. its because the centre spring setting block out some of the realistic grip or slip you can feel in forcefeedback settings.  sometimes centre spring is so powerful it masks other really nice force feedback effects you would otherwise feel without it   when i first got my wheel i didnt understand it myself, but after listening to darin gangi think thats how his name is spelt. sounds right. am talking about the guy who does youtube vids for iracing. inside sim racing. if you look around you will find helpful people, internet seems like its full of arseholes and idiots who just sit around looking for someone to take a dig at cause there life is miserable and in real life they get picked on all time . but there still some helpful and good people out there and you should not feel victimized because you want to add a comment. how else can you learn unless you ask. Darin Gangi he helped me understand how you can still get that tension that spring you like even with the centre spring turned off. its all about getting the settings right and dialed in how you like them. you should watch his vids sometime.

Codies please take a look at the Accuforce wheel by simx.  One of the members of the simx forum has patched the config file to recognise the wheel but none of the advanced options will work. Also those of us with clubsport pedals do not have the clutch recognised either.

I'm' using the Fanatec CSR wheel with Pedals and I feel like I'm driving one of those cars at the amusement park and the wheel slops from side to side and the steel rail keeps me on track. It's all mush in the middle and I will get some resistance with wide turns of the wheel. If I hit brakes the little feeling of  FB I get diminishes and just add to the slop in the middle. I can throw the wheel side to side about 2 to 3 inches whiles I'm driving and still drive in a straight line that's how much mush there is in the middle
The same for me with the Fanatec CSR Wheel!....

Control Options:
Can't be really one Logitech wheel only as the only option??!

With the Fanatec wheel the button assignment also faulty too. Several buttons on the wheel are set as "Button 1", i.e. the "A"-button, Clubsport handbrake AND paddle shifter....

And with every up-shift at the paddle shifter the camera is switched....

Further more the Clubsport shifter was not recognized...

Absolutely not playable with my Fanatec gear!

Has anyone a workaround?

EDIT 1:
I tried to choose the Logitech wheel but it didn't help. Actually it seemed to have somehow overwritten my Fanatec driver as also in Windows my Fanatec Wheel was recognized as "G25"??

Then I uninstalled the Fanatec driver, re-installed, and now it works!
But I have no forces at the wheel

EDIT 2:
Again the driver was overwritten or changed, wheel is recongnized as "G25" in Windows and does not work anymore in the game...

EDIT 3:
After re-installing the driver for the third time again all seems to work well.

Will you please allow this game to accept multiple controllers properly as I use ffshifter along with a sidewinder ffb joystick as my shifter flawlessly in almost every other racing game out there
So we need the ability to map gear position to a keyboard number/letterletter
Thus is a great game let down by some basic requirements

I use a dfgt and a thrust master guillemot wheel to avail of the clutch
So yes! - every other game recognisesrecognises and let's me map whatever I want
As I said I use ffShifter program to send key presses to my games based on joystick position
So a lot of people out there use this method with nearly all racing sims.
Please make it available in this game

When will you guys learn how to get the controls right? We've been asking you guys to get it right ever since F1 2010. We've offered suggestions year after year. It's 2016 and you guys still don't have proper rotations setup in the game? How hard is it to make it so we can leave our whee;s set at 900 degree rotation, and the sim automatically detect what the lock to lock rotation is for that particular car and automatically use that rotation instead of having to jerk around with a rotation in our wheel settings that match up?

When you're done whining, go and enable softlock.

You might want to take this to technical assistance ( http://forums.codemasters.com/categories/dirt-games-technical-assistance ) instead of as an answer in an unrelated old thread...

900 degrees rotation, 20% Self Aligning Torque, and 60 Steering saturation is key on the TX wheel for Xbox One!
