TheItalianOak 0 Posted September 5, 2019 So before I ask this I just want to point out I did search the forums and could not find an answer. I have always played racing sims with a controller. This is my first F1 game and recently purchased a G920 wheel. After about 30 mins of it (if that) I cant stand it. I am faster on a controller. Before I return it is there anything I should be doing in calibration or turning off assists in the game itself to make it more enjoyable? And I already removed the rubber piece from the brake pedal to fix that issue. I just see all the fast times are done on wheels so Id like to step my game up. ANY advice from "veterans" of this wheel and game would be greatly appreciated.
Hoo 164 Posted September 5, 2019 This is normal - you will be much slower on the wheel until you get used to it! My suggestion would be to start right back at the beginning - focus on learning how to use the wheel rather than matching the pace of the controller. First, turn off all of the assists - this will help you get used to the feel of the handling more effectively. Then pick a simple track that you know well and launch this in Time Trial mode using one of the decent F1 cars. Spend half an hour just trying to set a slow but valid lap - you will learn much about the feel of the car in that time: steering and grip, gear changing and engine braking, throttle and brake control. These are things that you don't have to worry about when on a controller with assists. Once you can get around the circuit slowly without spinning off then you can start to slowly push the pace. It will take a lot of practice though, and it might be a couple of weeks before you can match and then exceed the pace of the controller. However, the game becomes much more rewarding when you have greater control over the car and can appreciate the different elements of driving skill required. Good luck. 🙂
