Barcelona track, using fascist spanish flags?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, big Grid fan and Codemasters racing games in general.

I was just watching a video of the new release and I was just amazed to see that in the Barcelona track, they have used a "constitutional" Spanish flag, which is an old flag used in the Franco and dictatorship days...I get it, they don't need to know that but imagine they have a track in the US and they hang confederate flags everywhere...It is also in Catalonia, the last place on earth where you would see one of those flags. As a catalan, I don't want to say it is offensive, but it does feel very lazy, like they used the first spanish flag image they found and it reaaaally was the wrong one to use.

Hi it's normal if a little sad that most of the world hardly knows of Catalonia and just says going to Spain when visiting Barcelona. Until I started been friends with a really cool guy there who leads a band I was the same. When i visited snd stayed with his family everyone basically understood Spanish but spoke in Catalanese. In the same way it would be very unusual to see the Spanish flag flying at the Camp Nou I agree the racetrack would also be proudly independent definitely without a sea of Spanish flags! Would definitely be more immersive having been to the region recently myself to see the Catalan flag in the game. Plus bring back great memories!

Do you really need to pollute all corners of the universe with your separatists lies, even a games forum? Its getting old and boring.

>they have used a "constitutional" Spanish flag, which is an old flag used in the Franco and dictatorship days

Wrong, Franco was a dictator, which by definition, is the opposite to a constitutional and democratic state which is Spain nowadays. So a constitutional Spanish flag is the current flag and its not fascist nor dictatorship, i.e. the correct flag to use. FYI, Franco´s fascist flag had an Eagle in it.

>It is also in Catalonia, the last place on earth where you would see one of those flags.

Why? As much as you mightn't like it, Cataluña is part of Spain, therefore is pretty normal to see Spanish constitutional flags in its territory. If you're catalan you should know your citizenship is Spanish, you passport says so.

They've used the flag with the eagle, that's my point, and no, you wouldn't see that **** in Barcelona. It is very sad to see how people from our own country reacts to this as "separatism", you are not Catalan, I am, a track in Barcelona having a spanish flag with an eagle in it is just surreal to say the least.

OK, a flag with the eagle is not a "constitutional" flag as you first mentioned. It would bother me also to see the flag ith the eagle in Cataluña or any other region of Spain for thata matter. BTW, do you have a link with the video you refer to so I can see it with my own eyes? I've seen in-game in the Dirt Rally 2's Ribadelles tracks Spanish (constitutional) and Catalan (not Estelada) flags, besides each other in harmony.

Hi there - could you point me towards the video where you saw this, please? Thank you 🙂

Hi again,

So I've looked through all of our own (and community-created) footage of GRID on the Barcelona circuit and can't see a clear example of what you're describing. Obviously we're always looking to be sensitive and correct on matters like this, so happy to be corrected here, but I believe the correct flag is in use. I've dropped some images below as an example 🙂

May I say you're correct, specially in the second higher definition picture its very clear that the correct constitutional flag is being used. What can be misleading is, when the flag is vertical and blurry, the Coat of arms of Spain can resemble the shape of Franco's eagle (which wouldnt be correct anyway because on a vertical flag the eagle would be sideways, and not right up as in the illusion of an eagle). Sometimes one sees what wants to see. Thank you for the clarification.
