VR with DR2.0 is very very good and immersive, but there is STILL no mouse-support. That is the only bad VR-aspect for me after 1.10 .

Mouse is a must, also auto brightness adjustment (pseudo-HDR) is pretty bad, too bright most of the times, perhaps auto exposure measurement area is off as it gets normal when you lean forward or look down.

My suggestion at this point would be to contact Oculus support and state that Dirt Rally 2.0 on the Oculus Store doesnt play audio when started up, they should refund it. Since it classes as the game being fundementally broken, and not been sold as advertised and expected. Just tell them its been the same for 3 months without a patch to fix it. Once the refund has processed, I would suggest rebuying on steam; since that version now has Oculus SDK support. Audio works on the steam version with Oculus SDK, though you may have to manually set the system audio output within windows to the rift headphones. Since we are now at the end of October, and the VR version released on the 8th of Aug; and there still isnt a fix for the no audio bug on the Oculus store version. I think you are well within your rights to request a refund.

While I was excited to see the update, but it completely reset all of my graphics settings (not to mention audio). This really isn't a good thing to do to people who spend forever optimizing the graphics for VR.

Before we could set our mirror resolution by starting the game up in flat screen mode and adjusting the appropriate settings and then starting up the game in VR mode, but now it just goes to fullscreen without being able to adjust the mirror resolution. This is not a good thing for folks like myself who often use Discord and play music during streaming and can just use the mouse to scroll over and select what is needed outside of the game and then go back into the game by clicking on the windowed mirror screen. If I could Alt + Tab or Alt + Enter without the game crashing every time, it would not be a problem. Speaking of....

I still can't Alt + Tab or Alt+ Enter out of the game without it freezing. I really wish this could be fixed.

It is actually finally working well for me!

What platform you're playing on - Steam

  • What headset you're using. Index

  • What your PC setup/build is like RTX 2080Ti, i9900k, 32GB 3600 DDR4

  • Whether you're a Standard or Deluxe user (Steam only). Deluxe

All settings on highest except advanced blending off, reflections and shadows one click down from highest. 150% SS and an easy stable 90FPS in every stage I've tried. Finally happy.

You can change the settings in the "hardware_setting_config_vr" file located in "Documents\My Games\DiRT Rally 2.0\hardwaresettings". In there you have options to set the window resolution, as well as to set it into windowed mode.
Options you want to look for are

"resolution width="1280" height="720" " (change the numbers to change the desktop window resolution)
"fullscreen="0" " (setting to "0" sets it to windowed mode)

Hope that helps.

@PJTierney This sort of stuff should be changable in game through the graphical options menu, expecting the whole player base to know these things can be changed in file is just plain backwards.

Can you let us know what your PC build is like, and which headset?

Might help with reproduction.

It happens on the rift s and the rift cv1, i had the same issue myself with the oculus store version, i mentioned it in at least one of my older posts in these vr feedback threads. There are multiple complaints about no audio on the oculus store page for dr2.0, a few have even popped up on the steam community page for dr2.0, as well as numerious complaints on these forums. There is a work around by loading the oculus store version through steam.

With the steam version, i have to manually set the audio to run though the rift headphones manually also, so i dont thing the game is activating the oculus auto audio pass through. I also had to do this running the oculus store version through the steam client. Dirt rally 1 runs the audio through my rift cv1 without me having to manually set its output to the rift. So its an issue introduced in dr2.0

I have a complaint about the HDR in the game in cockpit cam because the dashboard is so dark the outside of the car gets too bright to the point i cant see the road in snow and sunny stages.

There could be a setting ingame to change it also an option to chane supersampling ingame vould be nice.

I know about hardware setting config vr settings to make it better but thats not for the avrage user and it wuild be better to see the diffrence ingame .

Report from 1.7 feedback thread here (has all details including dxdiag file).

Report from 1.8 feedback thread here.

Report from 1.9 feedback thread here.

Reddit thread here.

As you can see, this has been reported for nearly 3 months, and this is actually the first time that someone is asking for details. There are lots of users affected by this problem, not everyone of course, but lots.

What platform you're playing on (Steam or Oculus). : Steam
What headset you're using: HTC Vive
What your PC setup/build is like (graphics card, processor etc.): RTX2070, i7-9700k
Whether you're a Standard or Deluxe user (Steam only): Deluxe
Whether or not you have any non-standard peripherals connected, like steering wheels, gaming mice etc.: Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Leather Edition with pedals + Thrustmaster TH8A Shifter

Overall I think the VR experience is excellent. My main problem is the the in-game HUD is hard to read. I would love it if you could (like in Project Cars 2) adjust the distance of the HUD so it could get closer. It is particularly hard to read the standings and split times since the numbers are very small.

EDIT: I managed to fix the aspect ratio of the HUD and now the issue is not as bad. But I would still like to be bring it closer...

Thank you so very much! I had no idea that you could do this. I usually don't go around poking in these folders because I don't want to screw with something and end up being banned from RaceNet. Silly, I know, but they clearly don't want people messing with config files.

It would be great to see a Mirror Setting in game, like Project Cars 2 and the countless other VR games that let you do this.

You know what... I should give a f** to this reporting bugs again and again. But I decided to do that just make a record how this game is buggy and how dev teams are unable to fix basic things.

  1. Editing profile data doesn't work in VR
  2. Editing car setup name doesn't work in VR - in fact once you enter rename option you cannot leave it, game restart required
  3. Steering wheel rotation range still doesn't match cars. it requires to change saturation depending on chosen car. It might be some corner case (like bug from the past) but considering that no dev reacted to my multiple questions about it, it seems they giving the **** to this too. BTW it must be great sim being not able to set up rotation range properly.

All those bugs are present in DR2 since VR has been released. Curious how many patches must be released to fix so obvious and basic things.

BTW when re-calibrating steering wheel (hoping it will help with issue #3) I spotted, that when doing phase 2 of steering wheel calibration (setting it to 90* degree), numbers of degrees displayed on screen show some incredibly big values at center rotation (I mean 6 or 9 digits or maybe even more). When steering wheel hits both rotation limits, displayed value was equal to 180 I believe. yeah... Seems that calibration is completely messed up. Almost year after release.

Minor things:

  1. Steam now offers running the game in one of three modes. But doesn't remember the selection. So every time I want to start the game I have to chose the mode
  2. Running the game from the list of recent games (RMB on Steam icon on systray) attempting to start the game in monitor mode - don't know if its the game of Steam related issue but makes recent games list useless.
  3. DR2, run for the first time after updating to v1.10, asked me for licence agreement. Has the licence changed since beginning?
  4. In cut scene played before country championship I spotted no engine sound of car starting rally just prior to me.

BTW Is there an official plan of how long this game will be being patched? After another year or two there is a chance to get all basic things working. Or not.

One thing I found improved (pity it's not mentioned in changelog) is that all screens, including loading ones, are rendered in 90fps in VR.

VR performance is generally great, I play in ultra, max AA/AF and SS 1.2 forced ASW. My only complaint is what others have mentioned about the weird colour issues in dark areas (odd purples etc) on the Oculus. If that was fixed I'd have no complaints.

Rendering distance on ground cover is way to low. Very noticeable on Poland and USA. Trees also needs to be improved.

The sound defaults to coming out of the Speakers instead of the headset.  Alt-Tab to desktop to fix this often crashes the game.

Well damn, I have to take back any annoyance with the last version (I think it's 1.10.1 now)
it broke the game totally, and then somehow the next day, another 6gb update and the difference is huge.
I went from stuttering but getting ok performance at 90hz in 1.9, and 1.10.1 i'm now running it at 120hz. still getting slight drops but last time I tried 120hz it was hanging around 60-70 I think.

Whatever you did with the stuttering over confused usb connections, it's a hell of a fix.
I think the thing that really got me was how I could see a sign fly towards me, at 120hz it's crazy how depth perception comes into it, the immersion goes up a notch for sure.

On the note of immersion, now that VR is getting some work, I wanted to suggest giving some options for the visual aspects in the car.
First up the driver never left foot brakes. I think most people probably do it a fair bit, I'm not sure how it could work, if just making the left foot brake whenever you're not engaging the clutch, or if something more contextual would work, but some option there would be awesome.

Another thing is the wheel, It took a while to get it feeling right, it seems to match how the car turns but the virtual wheel still turns a fair bit more than my physical one.
I was thinking an option to override the sensitivity of the virtual wheel without changing the actual physical wheel and car control, it would help with the immersion too. It's the type of thing that probably isn't that noticeable as its in peripheral vision as you look around the track, but if it did match the physical wheel it'd help make you feel right there in the car.

Theres still to little tweaks to the view in VR. More up/down forward/back settings is needed.

Are you aware that you can map input buttons to "move seat forward", "move seat back", and more? They are not mapped by default. Also adjust exact seating position you can just move the headset in either direction when hitting "Reset VR" and then move you head back again. This allows fine tuning of position.
