I'd recommend the Ethernet route if possible. I had to pick up a extra BT Mini Connector and hard wire in to improve my gameplay on my work PC and my home Xbox. Opening NAT types as @1512marcel suggested is useful too.

sadly I have no chance of getting an ethernet cable. My internet to my pc however is very strong even without one. Is there anything else you could suggest because i’m desperate to start playing! Also how do I open NAT types? Thank you.

By 'Very Strong' do you have statistics to show. We ran a test with a user in March and the difference from Ethernet and performing Internet was huge. Almost became a different game for them.

I get about 120mb/s download speed. But there is no way for me to wire a ethernet cable. How do I change NAT types?

Every other game works on my pc and yet F1 2019 is still not working. Lost all hope now. No idea what it is and so disappointed I can’t play.

I am connected via ethernet, stable download speed of 100Mb/s. I do not have any issue with network connectivity or speed, that is not the problem. I have F1 2019 on my PS4 and it works fine (game bought via PS Store). It's just the PC through Xbox Game Pass/Microsoft Store that has the issue with F1 2019.

I already know how to open ports for NAT - I've configured Modern Warfare on my PS4 and PC (BattleNet) and they're Open NAT type. The video you mentioned doesn't give the port numbers so I can't forward them to apply Open NAT, do you know these numbers?

I am in the same position as SleekRL, downloaded via Xbox Game Pass for PC and the game doesn't get past the first "Communicating with Online Services..." screen after clicking any button on the title screen, sits there indefinitely, so I Alt+F4 the game. First open of the game I was able to go through the character setup process, but once that saved it went to connect to the online services and became stuck. Have tried many other times to get online but it's not working. Last attempt was 2020-07-31 9:54 AM UTC.

I tried to find the ports to open NAT for the servers but can't find any info on which ports to use.

Windows: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19041)
Game version: 1.22 (but Microsoft Store shows 1.66.9979.0)
Estimate of time reported for the problem: 2020-07-31 9:54 AM UTC
Is the problem always there or is it intermittent: Always
Any troubleshooting methods attempted: Restart game, restart PC, modem/router

Exactly the same for me as well. Downloaded via Xbox Game Pass yesterday and wont get past this screen (I've left it trying for the entire time of writing this post and no change):

image.png.6707c26e03efe7806dbc7eae623be8d5.png

If I unplug my PC from the network it goes into the game but no online play obviously. If I plug back in and retry, it just tries to communicate forever again.

Here are my XBox networking settings - my router was initially blocking Teredo and NAT was Moderate, but I've fixed that and still get the issue:

image.png.c3613fe5671a6d197367a48bd50caf4b.png

Other multiplayer games, voice chat through XBox app work fine.

Windows: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19041)
Game version: 1.22
Estimate of time reported for the problem: 2020-07-31 10PM BST
Is the problem always there or is it intermittent: Always
Any troubleshooting methods attempted: Restart game, reinstalled game entirely, multiple PC restarts, modem/router restarts. Waiting and trying again in morning.

Just went through a reset of microsoft store and an uninstall/reinstall of the game. No change, still stuck at the same screen. Any suggestions?

I'm still struggling. I really hope it can be fixed as I think it's something to do with Microsoft after the release on the game pass. So infuriating though as really want to play!

Issue is still ongoing for me. Will not progress past 'Communicating with online services' screen until I unplug the internet, which I shouldn't have to do but I want to play online as well.

I've just tried putting my PC onto another network - exact same issue. So its probably not my network setup.

Would it be to do with being new to xbox game pass?

Hello,

Having the exact same issue. Installed the game last week friday through Xbox Game Pass for PC. I was hoping it was going to be a temporarily thing, but 5 days later and still stuck at "Communicating with online services".

My specs:

  • Win10 - Build 1903
  • 1070 Geforce / 8600K intel
  • Connected directly with UTP cable to ISP modem
  • I've tried reinstall, reboot, etc etc
  • Disabled Windows Firewall, but no difference

Is there any other information that you need to help us find the issue here?

Please let us know. I've added extra exceptions to windows Firewall, disabled it, disabled router firewall. Still the same issue!

Anyone able to help? I've noticed people have had this issue and experienced it with F1 2020 previously.

Thanks for the suggestion - that was my issue with Teredo but I fixed it ages ago using that method. All my other xbox game pass games work fine in multiplayer since. I've been trying multiple things to get this working for F1 2019 and still seeing issues, and given the threads for the same problem existed previously and for F1 2020 as well, I'm inclined to think that the issue is with Codemasters servers and their integration to Xbox for Windows.

Bit disappointed no one from Codemasters has been able to confirm or even acknowledge after 2 weeks sadly.

I'm currently experiencing the same issue as many others in top of me, i downloaded the F1 2019 game 1 weeks ago on my pc via the Xbox Game Pass, the first time i launched it i create my own character and follow up to a infinite "Communication with online services". I tried several things to fix this issue, and nothing worked out. thats the only game to have this problems and i don't think it's my pc or internet fault. I'm equiped with a very good wired internet fiber. I don't understand what the hell you are doing with your server and this game Codemaster.

Hi everyone,

Can users add a video showing when they experience this issue and also add a report code (Found in Main Menu > Game Options > Settings > 16 digit report code).

Also, can users check their connection to our online services by copy and pasting the below links.

I won't be able to add the report code, as the game doesn't get to the main menu. Literally the first online check after pressing any button on the first title screen is where it is not working.

I've tested both links and they both show a green circle with white tick and successful etc.

So i dont know why, but i decided to change my account on xbox in the same pc to try and see if it worked and it actually work, it connected.

But I had a different problem, while I was playing with my friends, hosting a league private lobby, i had the error code NM15 or NP15, cant remember quite well, and it happens every race. Its about migrating host, but I cant give more info now, does someone know about this?

Hi @BarryBL

Same for me, I can get as far as the title screen below, once I click any button I get stuck at the black 'Communicating with online Services' screen indefinitely. If I pull my ethernet cable out it then lets me carry on without signing in, so I can get the report code: MMSA-JXCB-HXEC-GXEV. I can play the game as long as my PC is offline, as soon as it connects I get stuck at the same screen again. But I would like to play online if possible :)

Both links to online services I can reach successfully.

I just signed up for Xbox Gamepass on my PC and was excited to download this game last night. This morning and all afternoon, I've had the same error. As soon as I login, it is stuck at "communicating with online services" twirling indefinitely.  :(

To everyone with this problem, try to log out from the game pass app, and log in again, i try this rn and work

Hasnt for me. Logged out, restart, log back in, whatever combination you can think of. Still 'Communicating with online services' indefinitely.

In addition to people mentioning the issue on here, the reviews for game the in the Xbox app have people saying the same thing. Its not an isolated issue

I play multiple games from the Xbox Game Pass PC, and have no problem playing online.

F1 2019 Game Pass PC is the only game that doesn't work online for me.

I tried to modify the Toredo, to open ports on my Box, but nothing works !!!

And if the Codemaster Forum is not official, I don't see who else we could find out about !!!

In English please, English speaking forum. Use Google translate if your English isn't ok. Thanks.

I experience the exact same issue as is stated above by multiple users. All xbox services report no issues and the 2 url's provided by @BarryBL show 2 green checkmarks. But still the game does not load into the main menu and is stuck on 'communicating with online services'.

  • I have no issues with playing other (xbox) games online, not even F1 2018 and earlier
  • all combinations of reinstalling, logging out/in, restarting do not work
  • Windows is reporting that xbox live services are up and running/connected and NAT type is open

Can someone from codemasters please take this issue seriously?? we are paying for a litterally unplayable product...

Looking forward to a reply soon..

Hi. I'm from Colombia, I have the same issue in F1 2019 with Gamepass PC.

I haven't been able to join any league races. I'm in like 5 leagues and all week long I've tried to join races but failed. The game says that it is joining the race, and then pops an error message. It just says an error has happened, or something like that, and I can keep playing offline like normal.

Please I would like to know if the problem is related to Windows Firewall, or if it's related to my country. I always check the server status and they are ok.

I just downloaded and tried to play this on XBOX gamepass on PC and have exactly the same issue. Cannot get past the "communicating with online services..." at the start.  tested the two pages above and they both have green ticks and my internet connection is fine and i have no issue with any other game.

Codemasters, you quite clearly have a major issue on your hands with this as it would appear vast amounts of people can't play the game on xbox gamepass. Even one of the few reviews on gamepass says they are experiencing the same thing.

This seems to have been going on for ages looking at this thread so i'm stunned it hasn't been fixed!

Good morning the same thing happens to me that all these people have, I bought the xbox game pass and it does not let me enter the game. I installed it I have created a player and I already got the error, please write how it can be fixed because I run out of the xbox game pass
Thank you so much

Same problem for me. Bought the xbox game pass for PC and I cannot enter the game. Stuck in "Communicating with online services..." screen.

So many complaints and for so long time! Why don't you provide a solution?

If you continue to promote unreliable products and not pay attention to customers, you will drive them away from codemasters and xbox game pass.

Hope to see a solution coming soon!

@BarryBL

It's almost 2021 and the issue is still there...

Just downloaded via Xbox Game Pass (on PC) and there's no way I can get into the game. Keeps getting stuck on the "Communicating with online services..."-screen. Both links mentioned in your post give me green checkmarks on the connection status.

Edit:
I managed to narrow this down a bit. The issue seems to be my son logging in under his MS account, which is different from my own MS account that has the actual Game Pass subscription. It works when I log out his account on the Xbox app and then log in again using my credentials. This however is not a real solution, as we both would like to use our own accounts in the game.
All other Game Pass enabled games I've tried so far seem to have no problems with the multi-account setup...
