[FEATURE] Selectable tyres, tyre wear.

Recommended Posts

Tyres strategy plays major role in rallying, especially in Monte Carlo. Sometimes that means compromise, sometimes that means risk. If tire wear is not present at the moment, we should get it, so tire conservation comes into play as well on longer legs. Whatever the circumstances tyre choice is a must in rally game.

Good idea but could be tricky & complex  to make work with the Group B cars.
Pirelli had something like 6 or more different Tyres & compounds , add to that the fact that Lancia also used different sized wheel front & rear for the 0.37 & S4   & that even before you start looking at other teams it could be a lot of work for CM to be 100% Era correct.

But I think you should have Snow , Inters , full wets , Mud  . Gravel , Ice . & Dry /Slicks
But with out getting to complex like adding extra cuts , it would be nice but not life & death.

rallies are lost all the time due to poor tire choices by crews and or drivers.............................as matter of fact that is often how teams dominated other teams ,like when it was Pirelli vs Michelin ,so its a must in any game aiming  to be a sim

I would also tie this into the weather system, so if you have one stage dry and one stage raining, you have to compromise on tire choice. Or possibly you don't know what the weather will be, so you have to make a call with limited info.

This would be a nice and important strategy element for this game as it is for real rallying. Atleast it still plays big part in todays wrc events, like it did in Italy last weekend.

If this would be tied not only to a dynamic weather system, but also to career mode so that atleast in start you really have budget to manage and need to think about tyre wear and cost. Resrictions could be used in later career.

I'd like to see in the pre-race car setup spare tyre selection. Whether to start without a spare, with one or two spares. Also in special events like Monte, to have less studded or more studded as spare.

This also leads in to tyre selection between stages. In real life the spare tyres can be changed between the stages to optimize the performance for the next stage. For e.g. after 10km monte "dry tarmac" stage with "slick or semi-slick tyres" the next stage climbs up the mountain to snowy conditions and before that stage you could cross-mount the studded tyres to manage to climb up in snow.

In gravel rallies the tyres wear quite fast, especially on WRC cars. Therefore there should be clear difference in grip between the fresh set and "15km" driven worn set.

In long rallies there should be tyre limitations per driver, so that if you burn or break too many tyres during the first stages you might have to drive the last stages with less grip.
