FIA European Rally Championship [ERC] - Round 4 - Portugal - 49th SATA Rallye Açores

Portugal - Gravel15-17 May 2014        

Based on the archipelago’s largest island of São Miguel in the mid-Atlantic, the event takes place for a 49th time in 2014 with six stages broadcast live on television or online. The timed tests criss-cross breath-taking scenery and lush countryside, and are characterised by their sandy surface and narrow and undulating nature. And because the stages are often no wider than the width of a car, there is simply no margin for error. Changeable weather is also a factor due to the ocean climate with conditions switching from sunshine to showers and patches of fog thrown in for good measure.

I hope Kevin Abbring finally get a reward! and finish on the podium! After all the badluck he had! He is really a good driver!

The rally was insane! Really a pitty that Kevin spinned twice in one stage, els he took the victory! He is such a talented rally driver!

I love this Rally, the location is incredible and it is a great example of where the helicopter pilots earn their money.

The key thing for me is that the spectator (especially the TV spectator) gets to see all this amazing scenery yet the crews are funnelled down routes with very little view of the landscape.

Incredible stages, great driving and I love the mixed surfaces. I think the coverage also shows that Eurosport know how to show off a Rally on TV. The WRC should take a good look at this format.
