DiRT Rally Custom Livery

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have recently stumbled across @hoonhead 's custom livery link to edit livires for the game. I am here to say this works 100 percent. The download  link to the tool is - http://www.rallygamer.com/dirtrally/tools/texture-design-tools.html - please make sure you give credit to @hoonhead for this. What I wanted to make this separate post is for the sake that there needs to be some templates made for these cars. Similar to how iracing did theirs, multiple layers, in a way it is easier to edit a cars livery. If anyone would like to help, I would be happy to get this resource out to the community asap, so the whole community can benefit from it.

I have a problem, I'm doing a livery for the 205, but when I load it in the game the car leaves me very strange, such as red and the orange glass when the glass do not have edited, where is the problem?

Yep the rallygamer website is the best place to have all the tools and infos to start skinning this game.

Speaking of templates: I already made a request in the mod/skinning thread. From one side it's something quite easy to make available to the community because they must have them already in their hand to actually skin the cars we play in the game. But on the other side, they are probably thinking about the chances of increase of support and broken games that can occur if you do something wrong with the files (which is VERY likely). Also, to skin we need the Ego PSSG Editor which is basically a HACK to extract and pack resources. If they want to make skinning "official", they need an official tool too, and infos, and library, and support, and annoying threads about every kind of broken games to help fix. The only way I see they could release templates is unofficialy, not hosted on CM servers and offering ZERO support.

I thought about making one or two templates of the cars I'm working on it actually, but I stopped when I realized how difficult it is without having a wireframe layer :( . The wire is in fact the main reason we need a template coming from the devs hands. If you're not familiar, is a layer that you disable when saving the file, that shows the polygon boundaries of the UV mapping. Example here, from iRacing: http://i.imgur.com/IFJbhAf.png
Also, without an in-game showroom section like the one from Dirt 3 is still very hard (read: time consuming) to check the skin.

To sum it up:
Please Codemasters, release the templates (with wireframe) unofficialy, we will support ourselves :) .

You either left PSSG open when starting the game or saved the DDS with the wrong DXTC setting. Use the settings specified on rallygamer site: http://www.rallygamer.com/dirtrally/tools/texture-design-tools.html
