#FeedbackFriday - 08/05/15

Recommended Posts

Two week's in and we're still buzzing.

Thank you to you all, I can't believe how much this community hub has grown in such a short space of time!

Just like last week we're looking for your feedback, we'll we're always looking for your feedback but for just today we'd like to focus on the below areas of what we're doing so please tell us how you feel about the below things.
  • How long have you been playing DiRT Rally and how do you feel about what we've made? Did you start playing last week? Do you feel the same about it this week? or are you new? Let us know.

  • The audio - Any aspect from the engine sounds to the audio mix or the music in the menus.

  • Team Management - Are you using it? Do you understand it? How could we improve it?

  • Our Communication - the blog, patch notes, these forums, social media. Basically do you feel like you know what we're up to and if you don't how can we fix that?

  • Anything else you'd like to say? Shoot!

Thank you all again for an awesome week, have an amazing weekend playing DiRT Rally.

Remember, Don't. Cut.

1 I've been playing it pretty much since release date. I am a little bit annoyed with carrer progress as it does seem to save my progress properly. Minor issue though. I still have my doubts about physics, but overal experience is really good!
2 Audio is mindblowing. Music is medicore.
3 Team management is cool, but I don't think it should be mandatory to progress it with carreer mode. Cool feature though.
4 I like the way You communicate, I understand Your hands are full of work and You still find time to interact. NICE! I'd really like You to comment more on Suggestion Box- what is possible to be included, what is not. Also if You could start confirming features that are already accepted- that'd be sweet. In my case, I am especially interested in including additional difficulty option for those of us, who voted "Yes" here:

Thanks!

I have over 10 hours of drive time and I'm drawn back to the game and find myself during the day, at work, thinking about getting back  behind the wheel. It has not lost it's luster at all.

The audio is good, engines sound great, gravel, tire noise, etc. all good. However I find that with my headphones on the co driver can get drowned out by the engine at high rpm (even with the engine volume turned down). Please adjust the co driver volume or allow the engine volume to be dropped further.

I'm just starting to use the team management and I can see what the idea is behind it. I like it but I have no suggestions.

Great communication - keep it up!

Last word - I realize corporate pressure$  but hold true to your mission of creating realism and more of a sim like experience. There are plenty of other titles that are for people that just want to mash the throttle. You have a passionate audience for what you've started so stick with it.   :)

1. Since day 1 release.  Still enjoy it but now I am seeing the flaws in this gem that need to be polished.

2.  Audio is amazing.  Though you need louder audio for traction loss on ALL surface in the in-car view.  It's way too quiet.

3.  Don't really need it as the car does not really become damaged enough for me to warrant the extra expense of perks and crew.

4.  Communication is great!  I hope everyone there is hard at work on future patches :-)

5.  Yes...please give the option to turn off traction control completely!  There is still TC being applied when it is turned off in-game.  The vehicles do not spin there drive wheels freely when applying full throttle during corning or from the starting line!  It's a real immersion breaker.  Also, please add in realistic damage option!!  I want my Rally to be over when I smack a tree at 100 kph. :-)

  • How long? I think I bought it the 2nd day it was out :D. I think the concept is great and I am excited for more content. Last night I tried 2 hours on one stage to make the perfect run. So much fun :D
  • The audio? I like the engine sounds and menu music is fine. I'm happy the way as it is
  • Team Management? Yes I am using it. It is a funny idea. I don't know if it is already included - It would be great to see increase/decrease of stats when I want to hire a new mechanic compared to my current one before paying the price. I haven't tried but I hope I can replace a machanic before his contract ends. What I don't understand is the bonus system. I understand that after the mentioned distance in km I get a bonus. But what is that bonus? Is the required distance (for bonus) equal for all mechanics? Is this something I need to consider when buying a new mechanic?
  • Our Communication? Communication is good, keep it up! I just don't know what of our feedback gets through to you^^. So far the error 41 stuff and force feedback issues are noticed. How are you going to work through the other feedback like improvements and stuff? Maybe a list from your side would be great to see what improvement you are considering? Maybe make a list with a improvements which you think might be realistic and let people vote what should come first.
  • Anything else? Add game version number in main menu and of couse track layout, track length and best time in stage selection menu. And Ghost cars :D
  • Cars - same as with improvements, make a list which cars are possible from your side (licence stuff might be a problem I can imagine) and let people vote which ones are desired most and take the top five or something
That's it for now. Keep it up!

Got it day after release when I luckily spotted it browsing..
1  Its very very promising out the box as a rally simulation
2 there are things we want and things we don't but for me I don't want it to be a copy RBR with a modern twist.
3 it's got amazing sound but co-driver is not loud enough at high rpm.
4 Team management I am using instead of spending on cars but I'm kinda confused if it actually makes a difference for the money it cost for employees and upgrades.
5 great comms as it's your baby and you can tell you care well done!
6 obvious bugs need sorting, but keep the focus on physics for this game

1. I got it on the second day it was out too; I think I'd ignored the VirtualR posting on day 1, but then I saw the number of comments and positive reviews and had to check it out. I don't get to play that often (and can set up my wheel even less frequently), but this week was perfect timing so I've racked up just over 250km, mostly in the modern cars but with the occasional Stratos, Escort or 205 moment for good measure.

I feel stunned by it. The DiRT moniker used to have so many negative connotations to me, but my like for this is growing by the day. I only wish there were a few more kilometres of stages in existing locations, because the only thing that stops me spending more time is a fear of learning the existing ones too well. I think I've finally become accustomed to the pad I've been using and that's helped me appreciate it more than in week 1.

2. The audio is fantastic. Only R3E compares, as far as I'm concerned, and their sounds are lauded as the best in the business.

As for menu sounds and music, I normally turn them off immediately in any game I have, but haven't felt compelled to do so yet which is a great sign. It's unobtrusive and that's what I like.

3. Team management doesn't really interest me. I'm not a fan of an RPG approach to racing games, especially when the cars being simulated were commonly run as works machines, where the team management and driving are separate. Also, I don't know but I assume that as you 'grow' in career mode, your 'staff' do not; you just replace them with better from a predetermined list?

4. Communication is good and I hope you can take a similar approach to Sector3 Studios in terms of showing new licenses, content and features as they're in development. You have been very active in the support forum too, although I'd love to see any sort of acknowledgement of my query about Logitech pads  ;)

5. Nothing too much else. I love the game you've given us and feel I've already gotten great value for it. Having been involved in Project CARS from the start and seen it evolve from a concentrated game into a jack-of-all-trades, I fear the same from DiRT Rally with the upcoming rallycross and hillclimb content. However, I realise you've been working on this as part of an original plan and likely haven't rushed it, so you have earned my trust for the time being. That said, if this game can continue to offer a rally experience as good as it currently does, I'd greatly look forward to further DLC content following the end of the Early Access period.

Well, I've been playing DiRT Rally pretty much since the day it launched and have been enjoying it, overall, ever since. Now about the feedback you resquest:

Audio: Car sounds are A+, have no complaints there. Likewise for the effects. As for music, I don't use it, so I cannot judge.

Team Management: I don't use it much, I spend most of my time playing Custom Event. I like the way it's implemented though. I only request is that you keep team management associated only with repairs on Career and Online. Custom Event should just have a good engineering team and that's it (keep it simpler in that mode for those who want it).

Communication: Great so far! Just keep us posted on the updates and on what features of our feedback you are implementing.

Other things: Already mentioned before, but here it goes again: unlock everything for Custom Event mode (cars with full upgrades, good repair team, everything)

Played since Day 1. Prob 12 hours, not so much this week but the weekend is ahead! Still keen to improve although keen also to see some more variety. Online time trial leaderboards would be very welcome :)

The sound of the Stratos going through the tunnel in Monte is one of the game's high points - still makes me smile. The music in-game has gotten worse in successive titles since D2. I watched a replay of a stage whilst playing Rise Against's 'Injection' just to see... much better ;)

Team management isn't really something I care about overly. I bought one of the best mechanics and do what he recommends. Being able to have this done automatically would be welcome so that I can dive straight into the next stage.

Your comms is second to none :D With your heavy Twitter presence, you are always accessible and the amount of time and effort you put in is appreciated.

My final thought: There have been numerous posts from players who are struggling and have quickly been shouted down. There is no reason why some of their requests fir things like flashbacks cannot be accommodated where it would only affect their game ie offline mode. The hard-core can continue to crank up the difficulty unabated.

Had error 41 for a week, but got new card and moved on.
HAVE PLAYED FOR ABOUT 11 HOURS NOW.
I like the dynamic feel of the game very much.
Sounds are well done!!
Team Management need more necessity. We have to wait until service to see what is/was even damaged, making the whole time while you are driving, unaware of what has been damaged, I realize in real life they don't always know either, but usually have a good idea, lets say, the right rear is damaged when the car is dragging/plowing the wheel and hub in road.

Make it more interactive with real time damage indicators, then drivers know what needs to be fixed in service!
Make them fix what needs to be done and not have game telling them with sliders, that just becomes a silly side puzzle game then now doesn't it?

Having a window with damages is a good idea. It was a very important in RBR rally, the damage control window! That knowledge can even help you nurse the car through the stage to finish a leg, all little things that make it even greater!
Look forward to the future of this game and hope you are proud! you deserve it!

Notice I say "was" about RBR, it is just a memory now!, I doubt I will play it anymore.
Not with DiRT Rally a rocking!

Sorry my french...

______________________________________________________________________________________

- I play for the 1st day, I add up 71 hours of game(set,play) in everything. B)
- I play quite in daytime and I always have so much passion for the game(set, play).

- for the audio, he(it) is trés well but the sound of the crowd is not rather strong and detailed(retailed). (Ambient lack of sounds for the realism)

- the management of the team is good and I use him(it) (I have 4 engineers) it is trés mattering to repair faster.

- the blog and others forum are trés well done and easy to find.

- I made the early access of pcars also and now that dirt rally went out I play only with him (I prefer the rally, it is more fascinating for me) 3
I would really like that he(it) remains as it stands (only of the rally) and especially not to add others thing(trick) without any relationship with the rally.

- I adors special of night, the graphics(handwriting) is magnificent, the atmosphere general of the game(set, play) is trés a good one(a maid), the menu is simple and clear, on-line event are trés well (I made all).

- a publisher(editor) of championship is missing.

- if I had to ask for one only one thing, it would be a publisher(editor) of special (as there was in the time(period) on Vrally PS1)

Thank you for this magnificent game(set, play) which I the éspère will delight many enthusiast as me.

PS:vous ruined my life!!!!!

  • How long?  I bought it as soon as I heard it was released - think it may have been the second day. I did put quite a lot of hours into it at first but eventually decided to hold off until the FFB is fixed.
  • The audio? I think the audio is one of it's strongest points - a real rawness to it (if that makes any sense). There could be more feedback from the co-driver in crashes so he feels a bit more natural/human. He feels a little too calm when things get rough (like nothing has happened).
  • Team Management? I didn't delve into this too deeply so will leave this be.
  • Our Communication? Communication is great!. Even though I haven't played it as much lately (as stated above), I'm still regularly/actively reading the updates from you guys.
  • Anything else? Keep up the good work, make a 'pure' rally sim - we've all been waiting years for this!
  • Cars - I think the community are already making great suggestions so I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable ones.

Hi!

I have been playing soon after launch, next day I recall. After seeing the videos and reading first encouraging comments, I had to try this. And this has been the first rally game since RBR that I could enjoy playing. Already clocked 34 hours in steam counter, so I guess I was really waiting for this :)

I really like the overall feel of the driving from what I get from graphics. All the bumps, jumps and suspension working the road. There sure are some odd momements with grip in some turns and some bumps throwing the car over and for example Fiat 131 is like a train on tracks in snowy monte. I think the cars should be more lively in the slippier conditions. Snow and Ice don't seem very realistically represented in my Finnish opinion :)
edit: I think the biggest problem with snow/ice feel, is mostly in the initial grip. There is too much grip before any sliding happens.

Also I feel that the current state of FFB-effects don't do justice to this physics simulation, I think it could deliver so much more with better FFB. I'd like to really feel the grip of front wheels and suspension working in steering wheel in different situations, roadtypes and tyres: understeer/oversteer, braking/accelerating, gripping/sliding, tarmac/ice/snow/slush/dirt/mud/gravel, spiked/studded/dry/wet/hard/soft-tyres. And how about aquaplaning on deep pools of water or thick sheet of snow slush? It would be awesome i a rally sim.

Also realistic representation of each car's steering ratio and steering wheel turning mapped to 900-degree wheels really adds immersion. It would be fun drifting those RWDs really spinning the wheel. Also simulating realistic analog clutch operation, analog handbrake and correct type of gearbox for each car adds feeling. Also there should be possibility to configure SQ- and H-shifter simultaneously, and game should use pick whatever the car really uses.

Sounds were the other strong thing I first noticed with this, they are already great and realistic to each car and viewpoint. Maybe there could be even more "horsepowers" and punch in group B sounds and maybe the effect of upgrades should be heard. Maybe more dynamic range would be better? The backfire and exhaust sound are very nice to have, but maybe they seem mostly quite small. Maybe there could be even more punch, variation and life? I don't know if they realistically should be very audible inside the car or at the front, but they really could bring sense of "horsepowers" to the feeling :)

Musics are OK for now, but I guess they don't bring much feeling at the moment.

Team management and car's upgrades are nice addition. Maybe there could be more things to research with smaller improvement, and possibility to choose what to research. Bigger first steps and smaller at the end. When we have more rallies in the season, I think there should be more to do with engineers.

It is very nice to see communication, but more is always better in this. Looking forward to discussion to both directions in the forums.

Other things that come to mind, is that we need much more unique stages. The current stages are great, but more is better. Welsh roads are very nice, and maybe some more open and faster roads with jumps and some extremly slippery muddy forest roads would be great addition.
It would be great to have atleast some of the most legendary realistic stages and places in each rally. For example Ouninpohja and Humalamäki in rally Finland. Variation is good, some very long and some shorter stages. Also support for community-made stages could cover for number of unique roads possible to develop officially.

Thanks for the great rallysim! Really looking forward to all the planned content and what we will figure out together.

  • How long?  As soon as it was released
  • The audio? feel great, only trouble I've seen is the impreza sound, which doesnt sound like a Boxer engine
  • Team Management? Did'nt use it much
  • Our Communication? CoYour communication is great
  • Anything else? Keep up the good work for the game, it should be shaping up well
  • Cars - Apart for the celica ST185 (that i'm willing basically to turn gay and sleep with everyone on the dev team to make it happen), only 2 things to say, first THIS : http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/6194/cockpit-graphical-bugs-in-here , and second, for many cars (inluding the Lancia Fulvia, Lancia Delta Integrale and the Fiat 131), it make no sense for them to use a mph scale for their cockpit speedometer, when they were actually used with a KM/h scale (AFAIK, those that used a mph scale were msotly british cars)

I've been playing since the 1st.

The audio is good but I sometimes noticed some looping sounds on the gravel (Greece). Cars and stuff sound great though. I'm not 100% sure about this though.

I only hire then extend contracts for team management. The perks are also a little too specific and expensive. It's useful as is but needs a bit of a rethink, the progression in being able to do longer stages is good but there's no depth to it really. Maybe integrating the team more with car upgrades, but also making the car upgrades more subtle? Like drive on gravel enough and engineer A comes up with a suspension tweak that reduces understeer. Or engineer A comes up with weight reduction possibility but when you try it in race something breaks as a result.

Communication is pretty good acutually. Keep up the good work.

  •  I've been playing about two weeks or 15 hours all up (I have a 4yr old so that's a commitment!). I was be-smitten at first as it's been so long since a decent rally game surfaced. The issues with the force feedback, especially the counter steer issue that has been widely discussed have dampened things a bit for me, especially as I'm more familiar with the game now and notice that it's fighting against me when it shouldn't be.

  • The sound design is fantastic, I love the touches like squeaking breaks, the co-driver is solid and those engine sounds..just WONDERFUL! Perhaps there could be some variation in menu music, it's ok but starting to grate after two weeks. I would love if there could be occasional comments made by the co-driver, such as when you stuff up or if you are pulling a good time...used rarely so that it adds a little depth and variation. And a female co-driver option would be awesome.

  • Team Management needs some work. I struggle to decide between unlocking a car or spending on a team slot which is expensive, I think they should be unlocked as you progress rather than being paid for. The cash is spread too thin, even after a few second places I'm struggling to find cash to buy the cars I want to unlock. Then again I hate in game currency with a passion. I also struggle with the concept that a radiator could be 1% damaged. I would rather have some discrete and realistic states of damage listed such as worn belt, wheel alignment out,  gearbox missing a gear, hole in exhaust/damaged (instead of percentage points), along with perhaps a video of the engineer repairing the said part in a garage during a pit stop. The fact that tires pop is hell cool though.

  • Communication has been awesome so far, I appreciate the effort into letting the community know what you are working on and the future plans. So much better than asking something and getting no response. I think Codies is travelling in the right direction.

  • I've made it to the professional level of difficulty in career mode, and finally unlocked the Group B cars I was working towards. However, I can't play on a lower difficulty anymore (AFAIK). This is making it tough as I am struggling with both better drivers and a tougher, faster car. I think you should be able to change the difficulty before a championship or at least work up through the ranks for each group of cars. (i.e. separate difficulty progression for each of the different car classes). There is a good variety in the tracks on offer, but I'd love to see Australia or NZ rally represented.

Oh and I forgot to mention the issue with the Monte Carlo stages stuttering in certain sections.  It's completely smooth otherwise, just in that one section with the back to back hairpins. Using an r290 on ultra settings.
