Show Off Your Replays

Recommended Posts

Ok, my last stab at this. Heard about Action! on another site and figured I'd try it. Disregard the overlay as it's the trial version. Both of these captured with Action! and encoded in Virtualdub using porkhammer's method (http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/comment/153274/#Comment_153274).

This was captured at 1080p/60FPS/High quality, which gave me a file just under 5GB and 223Mbps. The framerate never dropped below 60. If I tried that in any other software I'd be looking at a slideshow.

This captured at 720p/60fps/Normal quality. For some reason, 720p and High quality gave me noticeable stuttering in the resulting video, something I didn't see in the 1080p/high quality capture.

I apologize for cluttering up the thread, and thanks for helping.

Seem a lot of toying just to record a game. What's your spec?
Yes it does, far too much in fact. Specs are:
i5 4670K
8GB RAM
MSI GTX 770 (2GB)
250GB SSD (840 Evo), Windows and DR installed here
1TB WD HDD, capturing to this drive
Ingame benchmark result: http://i.imgur.com/Gg6EvRB.jpg

I'm not expecting to do any lossless capturing and have ultra high quality youtube videos. But I don't think I should have a problem making decent videos that play fine.

That's indeed weird because I could record 60fps no problem on my old 7970, but this card had 3GB. You know when you record it use more video memory while playing. The most obvious thing is to turn off Anti Aliasing...

With MSI afterburner I suppose maybe reducing things to would fix the issue. If you target the video memory usage under 1500MB I think it should smooth out the recording.

My first Ultra 1080p replay with the new PC.  Shadowplayed it and then Handbrake to reduce the filesize.

Its McRae's Mk2, in a Welsh forest, flat-out.  What more can I say?  :)

First one looked good, i *think* there *might* have been something there, but i couldn't say for sure.  Second one wasn't great, i even had weird playback issues the first time, that has to be a YT thing though.

Do you have camera shake enabled?  It's causing some massively weird bouncing/shuddering on the mounted cams :(

I was wondering how it would go on the icy part...

Do you only use the keyboard? I feel a lot of potential wasted..

For the moment, yeah, KB only. I am not doing too bad. My speed loss is very apparent on RWD cars, let alone a turbo one like this. FWD or 4WD much less so. I am about to hit 400 hours, so i am definitely having fun being high up with what i have. :)

Up until about a month ago I was using the Ultra preset (and 4x MSAA, but I think I set that) as that's what the game set me up with and I never bothered to change anything because for the most part it ran fine. Though when I finally benchmarked it I could see it would dip down into the 50's at some spots. So I've gone with the high preset and set a few things to medium, and no AA. Now on the benchmark I'm averaging well over 100fps and the lowest is about 100. While the numbers say performance has increased, I have to say it actually feels worse sometimes compared to when I was using the Ultra preset and getting lower performance.

Tried Dxtory earlier, not bad, but it wouldn't start or stop recording unless the dxtory window was on top/selected. And I figured I'd give shadowplay another shot. This variable framerate doesn't make any sense to me, had dxtory open at the time and you can see the fps counter, it never drops below 94. But the media info for the shadowplay file says 52fps min and 63max. As for the camera shake, I thought that only had an affect when driving? It was set to 100 so I set it to 0. Mr. Deap mentioned vram usage and I did have it set to ultra when I was working on a skin. I set it to high to see if that would smooth things out any.

YouTube is always gonna make things look worse @function9 .
I think because you are asking us to find fault, it draws attention to micro-stutters that would normally go un-noticed!  Compare to my replay, Im sure yours are no worse than mine?
In fact, I have even noticed that after a Handbrake compression of the original file, some fluidness is lost.  Im blaming a low end CPU here maybe.  I'm probably pushing it quite hard with replay rendering

You have to check constant framerate in the video tab. If you don't, you will lose some frames from the original video.

It was a bad mistake to make, but I made it across the line in style!

Haha, I've finished that stage more than my share of times like that. Think I once managed to finish while still inside the treeline. Damn logs on the inside of that last corner are so deceptive.

Yeah, you need to keep the nose of the Manta well into the inside of a corner, cos its big long-ass hangs right out off the edge of the road!

I can see that i'll have to turn on some assists to get my driving like that....

Seriously though, that was actually satisfying to watch, i like that stage, after having hated Greece for the longest time, however i can never string together enough concentration to pull off anything that consistent/quick, never mind keeping it that tidy :(

Yeah, the Focus isn't the easiest to be tidy in!  Whatever you do, don't switch the "Assists" on! :)
