Multiplayer Features and Game Issues

Thought I would make a thread on multiplayer features that are missing from 2019 and where the issues still are with this game, right now people are so frustrated that the forums are falling apart and threads are going far off topic.

I'm doing this on multiplayer as this is the area I care about, I only really do campaign to pay for cars, this is why Grid 2019 was such a disappointment and why the latest patch misses the mark by a long way!

The lack of a hold screen between races in an event is a big issue to me as you are not able to change the tuning of the car to suit the track, in GAS you would change your gears to suit Mount Panorama for example.  Now with the new patch you can of course tune the car pre-event, that is a step forward, but you have no idea what variations of tracks are coming up as there is no 'Event Details' so it is still quite pointless.

We all could just go back to Grid Autosport or another racing game but we like the Grid series and 2019 does have a great racing model, everything else can be fixed if Codemasters wants to develop the game into something great that will attract other gamers.

We all know the game is seriously lacking tracks but that is getting better slowly with each season, just hope they don't stop at season 3.

The other fundamental issue with the game is it looks #LikeNoOther and not in a good way, LOD is very noticeable with shadows drawing a few meters from your car but if for some reason you slow down and look around and can see past those horrific trees you can see how better Grid/Grid2/Grid Autosport are compared to 2019 for off track scenery, some clippings from the other thread:

In general the graphics seem washed out and have low res mapping.

Anyway, discus, keep it on topic for the thread and make a current issues list for Codemasters to address or ignore, easier for @CMTGK to catch up on ;p.

Issues:

  •     Multiple attempts often needed to select car in skirmish (reported months ago and ignored)
  •     LOD and general graphics and trees
  •     Multiplayer tuning and event details

I will try and update this issues list as we go!

We need tuning between races like in GAS. Maybe 20 seconds between races to set up your car. It worked in Autosport so why not now.

Btw you can kick players out of the lobby in Grid 2019. 

In GAS you could also pick a new host.

That's a nicely made list/comparison!

I think you could add 'Stadia' to the Endurance mode, and probably keep it as red 😁

Also @KreuZenNL do avoid posting the same thing over and over again to different threads, as that can be seen as spamming which can be seen as agaisnt the forum rules

@GavinMac Why do you have a "No" for Drift mode in Grid Autosport ?

It is availabe for singleplayer and multiplayer when choosing Tuner Class and C1, C2 Drift 😉

Delete in which way? As in using backspace, or pressing the delete button.

These have minor differences, and the image would be removed from your "global attachments" if that was the last copy of it or so. Though the hidden post most likely prevents the deletion of it from the global attachment list

E: I can remove the image from the bottom of the post if you'd like.

Racenet challenges: GAS-yes (still working) ... Grid-no

Online stats (# of races / average position): GAS-yes ... Grid no?

Qualify: GAS-no ... Grid-yes

I've never seen this before. I'll try to remove images from the duplicate thread to see if that fixes something.

E: Yeah I have absolutely no clue why this happens. A fix could be to bomb all the attachments somehow, but if you don't have loads of things to edit, then it's probably just better to leave the image there.

Racenet challenges still work in GRID2. Racenet in GAS isn't available anymore. I tried GRID2 some months ago and checked GAS today

RaceNet is known by being down all the time, so do check GAS again some time later 😁

Racenet works at times for GAS.

Had some good multiplayer racing last night and the new tuning option is almost pointless, really need to be able to tune between races in an event.

The game does look great when racing in lower light but since the LOD issues were pointed out it really irritates as you notice it a lot more, the other graphics failings only really bother you when you are sitting with 3 wheels or limping home.

It is at least better than it was - hidden back in the garage options. You can see what is set and change it before the racing starts, but still cannot change between races or indeed tell which track variation the host has picked. Simple F/R and S/M/L indicators show as text on on top of the location icons would be enough to show the exact track variations.

Thread is a general review of the current state of multiplayer/game, we tried keeping gfx to the gfx thread but it devolved into modding abuse

The game looks great when going fast and its darker except for the shadows drawing 10-20m in-front of the car. 

I have turned off motionBlur, lensStreak, leansFlare and bloom though in the config file... dont need it to look like a JJ Abrams film! Just some of the graphics settings that are missing from the game.

I understand there are budget constraints for graphics, but you allow the user to define his/her own budget through options, you should also have a LOD based on speed of the car, when going at speed you need to render everything on the road, when you are going slow then you need to raise the detail outside, but the jist of what you are saying is computers have not advanced in 6 years so to get the level of car detail up, codemasters have cut corners on the track side assets.

I fail to see a good reason why the world should look less impressive than grid2/autosport when we should have more opitmised graphics engines and faster hardware and should be on a par with other games.

there is also just no excuse for this...

Some people will say the detail like that does not matter or its just a blown up clipping from a screenshot, you only see it if you stop on track...  but it is the first thing you see when you load the track, first impressions!

Everything looks better in sunset or night, daytime its poor on some tracks even at speed.
