Can't understand how people can't get the game to work

Recommended Posts

I have just rebuilt my PC with completely different parts. I have gone from Intel to AMD. I have had zero issues with the game (other than gameplay bugs acknowledged or posted by me here). I did build an entirely different Intel machine with random parts and had again, zero issues.

This makes me think that there are many misconfigured / faulty machines out there or with corrupt Windows installations. We need to stop issues such as these polluting the forums in TA with stuff that is really "fix your own house before coming here and slating Codemasters".

I'd like to make an offer. Send me or enable me to purchase other GPUs to try to replicate actual hardware issues. I'm sure I could validate actual hardware issues with any AMD/Nvidia hardware. It seems to me that next gen or Nvidia hardware is the worst. I have a low opinion of the quality of Nvidia drivers, not saying AMD is perfect, not saying other games are / are not an issue.

I'm perfectly happy to have a build /test rig, just need funds or parts sent. I don't even want to own them ultimately, I can test the game with any combo. I'm confident it works, it's just poor configuration or lack of attention to drivers and installation methods.

Our helpful support guy is slowly losing his mind 😜

I think on the GRID side, over 50% of the crash reports* were caused by the users' drivers being out of date. I don't think it's a scretch to imagine that many of the issues are in part caused by something that cannot easily be tested for, as most tend to tinker with their hardware/os/driver settings at some point or another.

*It's possible that many of the reports could be duplicates from the same person as they've tried to start the game over and over again.

I have been working as an IT-Specialist for a couple of years now and I have also been doing a lot of support tasks.
From experience I can say that in easily over 50% of the cases I got, the Problem was sitting in front of the computer.

People these days are used to easy-to-use operating systems on computers and mobile phones, so my guess is that actual problem solving skills have kind of disappeared in the last years.
So as soon as a problem appears, people don't know what to do.

While I do feel you @steviejay69, I don't think we can do anything about it.

Those without any DOS knowledge  or remembering how to get a game working with only 48kb of memory really missed a lot of fun. I’m from that era and knew how to get it working but now spoiled too (and lazy). @LSKone is right, and so is @steviejay69 But its something not easily solved with the hundreds of different possible configurations.

I think steve jay needs to pull his head in. Most problems people have had like The "kicked for online cheating" or the 1008H: error were caused by stuff done on codies end.     A patch change for issue one and a server change for the other issue I mentioned.

When something works fine one day then not the next after something codies changed you can know straight away its not your own configuration.

Honestly sound like an IT support pleb who tells you too "Restart your modem"

Kicked for cheating isn't usually a problem that has anything to do with Codies end except for the fact that the game detected something is wrong with your files. Weren't most 1008H errors also caused by the game and their own configuration?

This is not what most issues are though. It's quite rare to see issues caused by an update considering we have multiple bug reports every single day despite there being no updates. There is also a chance that some software (such as drivers, os, etc.) may have changed as well, causing the issue. Or maybe the developer added a support for a OS feature that you've somehow broken by fiddling with the files yourself.

More of the story that bug reports are ridiculously annoying for everyone, as testing things takes loads of time 🙂

Steve’s post concerns hardware configuration issues. Not game related issues.

Haha! I can confirm that a simple "Restart your xxx" does solve a surprising amount of problems though! 😁
