International Women’s Day 2020: Meet Rachel

Recommended Posts

We’re celebrating International Women’s Day by shining the spotlight on the women behind our games. Next up, we talk to Senior QA Technician Rachel!

Hey there Rachel, thank you for sitting down with us! Could you tell us what you do?

I’m Senior QA Technician and Platform Lead for Xbox One on Grid currently. I manage the workload of my team of testers, assigning them areas of the game to test and making sure they’re up to date with the latest build (version of the game). I’m also responsible for training anyone new on my team on how to test and enter bug reports to an acceptable standard.

How long have you been at Codemasters?

I’ve been here for 4 years.

How long have you been in the industry for?

4 and a bit years!

How did you get into your career?

I did a Master’s degree in Computer Gameplay Design & Production at university. I originally wanted to be a Games Designer but I’ve always had a love of bugs in games so when I got a job in QA I found that I really enjoyed it. Since then I’ve learnt as much as I can and worked hard to progress up the ranks.

Thank you! Could you tell us about your career aspirations?

I want to become a Team Lead in the next few years. They manage the Senior staff which is my current level. I could see myself being a QA Manager one day as well.

What advice do you have for women trying to get into the industry?

Get a degree in something games related. It’s not always necessary to get into QA, but if you want to get into a design or production role then I’d definitely recommend getting one. Also playing a range of games is important, especially the games of any company you apply to, and tailoring your CV to that games company is a must. I see so many CVs that don’t even mention having played racing games when people apply here and it’ll give you something more to talk about in an interview.
