AI damage setting

Recommended Posts

Hi community,

yesterday that question came up again in my mind when I had a rainy race in Suzuka.

After start of the race, turn 1, Perez crashed straight into the inside barrier, after that he was going backwards back on track, not waiting till everyone is through (because it was race start, so tight grid) no backwards into his teammate. (in this case Lukas Weber)

Perez only damage he faced was a minor front wing damage, the little thing on the outside of the frontwing, when Weber crashed in him, nothing, Weber no damage (his frontwing should have been wasted) neither Perez (his right wheel in the rear would have been gone – normally)….to conclude this – he should have received a time penalty for dangerous driving returning on the track in dangerous conditions.

So this 1 scene made me think – when I touch someone, it always brakes something, even with a little touch, does the AI use has a “lighter” damage option?? What do you guys use?

Further, do the AI get time penalties???

I realized this earlier in other races as well but never asked here, yesterday it was the topping of the cake for me and now I need to ask.

AI level 93% I think I use.

Thanks for feedback and your settings

Cheers

can someone from the Forum owners answer this please?

yesterday, rainy race in Austin - some RacingPoint dude crashed in my back, gave me a push, in reality, or even on my "realistic damage" settings, my frontwing would have been gone, sure not this guy (I think it was Perez) if the AI drives without realistic damage, in this case then the option before, I will switch it as well to this

Hi @svensenk86

Can you provide video examples when possible so we can evaluate if the damage model is behaving as expected. We ask a similar thing for Safety Car incidents as having the live footage really helps our developers.

To answer your question, the AI can get time penalties.

Hi Barry, as the race already happened, no video footage available - need to do this next time when it is happening.

But I cannot be the only one with this issue. AI never has the same damage realism like me when I do the damage setting "simulation" or however it is called.

@BarryBL  I think developers should rework the complete damage system. Only front wing and front tyres is just not enough for a simulation.

We need more damage options especially against AI...
- underbody
- rear
- rear wing
- side boxes
- rims / rear tyres
- suspension

also we need rules to play online...if somebody is in the lobby only to crash into people, this guy should be DSQ and banned for a week or so...
people should start learn to repsect each other and respect different driving skills.

Hi @svensenk86 and @2Pacalypse,

We are always trying to improve the experience for the players for our games. If you can provide video evidence, we can analyse the footage to see if the current damage model is performing as expected.

However, I will take your suggestions forward to developers for improvements with future titles.

Hi Barry, just start the game and play - the damage model is really "bad" I must say. You cannot tell me no one at CM thinks "well besides all, our damage model is pretty realistic, no need to improve there guys..."

In Grand Prix 2 more damages could occur.

Ok in reality when Vettel crashed into Verstappen in Silverstone, Verstappen also could kept driving which was really a surprise.

The only damage which happens in F1 2019 is, front wing & once I had a flat tire because I was driving over a lost part from another car.

AI bumps into each others, especially when they try to overtake in corners, they hit the other car in the middle, so at least one suspension must be broken after that and the other car at least should face a dent on the outside.

I would be surprised if that issue never was addressed before as it was the same issue the versions before....

Hi @svensenk86,

We do need the video from people to accurately assess compared to the design of the damage model for F1 2019

In terms of updates to that damage model in question, it would be something we'd have to look into evaluating for future titles.

if I think of it when it happens to make a video afterwards I can do, but normally it would be enough if you just play the game as it happens all the time

Anyhow, thanks for feedback

This really makes me wonder how much testing codemasters do, and from the evidence to date it would appear to be very little.

To accurately assess how our current damage model performs for the user, we need individual examples. Much like the Safety Car tweaks we made in a previous patch, we continued to ask users to provide their examples so we can see how our system continues to perform for players in certain circumstances that they are highlighting.

I can assure you we do extensive testing into all parts of our game to make sure the behaviours of the game aligns with our design. Just if users want to highlight issues, having the video evidence alongside a completed bug report is really helpful in analysis and (in some cases) potential replication if needed.

Sorry but all you need to do is play the games to see how bad they really are.

Perhaps the key phrase in your reply is "how it aligns with our design." Maybe the testing is as extensive as you claim and it is the design that it as fault.

...And the lack of reply says it all. Your response to the questions on the car setup and handling model said pretty much the same ie, the game aligns with our design. The design brief is devoid of realism or simulation. Beauty is only skin deep as the saying goes.

@BarryBL there we go,yesterday i was reminded to take a video. When you look at it,the HAAS hit the other guy 2 times with the right frontwing,at least the outer part should have been gone as it happens when i would be that guy, every single touch is punished with a lost part.

I am the good looking no.24 in the back. :)

so which damage "setting" has the AI?

HI @svensenk86,

Thanks for the video.

So I'm guessing from your previous comments you are running Simulation damage? By design, the AI should run similar damage settings to the ones the player chooses. Good choice in team btw, I'm the Ferrari in my now resumed career mode from home.

I can get this to the developers for them to take a look at, and see if I can get further detail into the damage model and its detail.

cool Barry thanks, also for the quick feedback! it is kind of annoying when I run simulated damage and the AI can drive like auto scooter - this makes me using too much of the replay function which I want to try to avoid, but I say to me, "hey kind of unfair from the AI as well" 😛

it is my first season in red 😉 two previous ones have been with Alfa
