compatible headsets

On Xbox One the engineer communication uses the Kinect system. So it needs a Kinect rather than a headset.

Or in other words, if your running game chat, there's gonna be a lot of back ground noise from others talking to the pit box lol

I heard on a YouTube video that the kinect was being used as a microphone but also that there were available headsets that would do the same (he mentioned which ones would)but now I can't find the video!!!!

If it's Kinect-only it'd be quite disappointing but it makes sense actually. Hopefully it works with my Turtle Beach XO ONE as I bought kinect-less Xbox

It uses the Kinect hardware/software to process the voice commands, it's not only a microphone. So voice commands can only function on the XB1 with a Kinect attached.

Headsets can be used on the PS4 version because Sony's recognition system runs on the console firmware itself.

Just of out of my curiosity, as I don't have neither PS4 nor XB1, if someone bought the XB1 bundle without the Kinect hardware piece/camera that person won't be able to use the voice commands?

I seem to remember that someone mentioned a potential post-release addition of the voice commands on PC. Can you let us know if it's really on the cards? @Britpoint

Yes to both of your questions, although the PC question is completely unknown at this point. We'd love to if we can, but there's absolutely no guarantee it'll be feasible. You know me MVB, I play all my stuff on PC and I'd quite like to use the system I worked so hard on! :) But how we'd accomplish that is something that needs investigating, which we'll do after release.

@Britpoint, would the headset that comes with the PS4 work for commands with the engineer? Or would a PS4 camera be needed? I know you can do a few things with the stock headset like start games.

Yes the default one will work fine. On the PS4 any mic with a 3.5mm jack should be fine. Although the PS4 will be calibrated to work best with the stock mic or PS4 camera.

Did you buy it as new? If so, look in the box for a puny little black ear bud. It has a mic about 10 inches down.
