We need more lobby options regarding penalties.

So a very practical suggestion that will be easy to implement for the next game and will make everybody's life a bit easier, and the game more realistic. 

I think it would be a good thing for the lobby to have more settings regarding rules. 
So you can leave the corner cutting penalties turned on, but:
-disable the contact penalties (Because the game rarely has it right and leagues have stewards for that) 
-disable the illegal overtakes (because the game rarely has it right and we have stewards for that)
This would also allow for more realism as we could have the lapped cars unlap themselves under s.c. Something that happens a lot in f1 and is hilariously missing from f1 2019. 

When i say we have stewards that will correct it that is of course as long as the penalty wasn't a 5 sec before pitstop or a drive through.. then you're just screwed for no reason. 

maybe we can also have some control over the severity of certain penalties because we've all seen them millimeter cuts/track extensions where suddenly a 10 second penalty gets awarded. Don't know why this is a feature, but nobody likes it and we'd like the option to remove it ourselves if you feel those lottery penalties should be in the game. I feel the warning system is a really fair way to deal with the cc's. I also feel sometimes a cut is so severe you need to get an instant penalty (and if it's only 3 and the game was wrong we can always remove it at the end or give a warning and look at the race director).

But the game handing out these big penalties because it either doesn't know the rules (safety car unlapping) Doesn't know who's at fault ('Let's just give 5 place grid penalty to both just to be safe') Or thinks that one tiny off-track that no one would notice is suddenly worthy a 10-second penalty, is ruining races and ruining the game from the inside. 

Also annoying: People getting DSQ for turning the car around (reset to track should be removed) or for driving slowly on pit exit to give a hotlapping car all the space in turn one. 
We should either be able to turn these off, or the game needs to become a lot smarter

I think the idea, from a players perspective, to give players more options to improve gameplay would be a great idea.

There will obviously be advantages and disadvantages to some of your suggestions. The easy example is 'illegal overtakes' disabled at race start/first lap period, as there could be some creative interpretations of that change. However, I can take these ideas to the developers for sure. Any constructive ideas to consider as improvements are always taken on board.

Yeah obviously they would still be penalized where necessary but by people and not by the game not taking the whole situation into account. 

Alternatively, we could have the game make a 'flag' for use with the yet to be announced 'replay feature' of f1 2020. So The stewards can actually go back to that point in the race and make an educated decision based on multiple angles etc. Overwatch has added such a great replay feature recently and it would be extremely useful in this game as well. As it is, people's abilities to report things is dependant on their ability to stream/record the game. which is not always possible for people without the latest graphics cards. Would be a great help for making highlight video's too!

I would like to add to that that there should maybe be an option in the lobby settings in which you enable that you don´t need to serve drive through penalties or 5sec penalties before they work on your car. As these penalties sometimes are quite random/harsh/applied to the wrong driver and can´t then be removed from stewards afterwards(league races)...

As long as there are no ranking points available there should be no limit on options available for the league admin. In fact a totally separate race director app should be available to download pc /Mac that allows full league and race organization for admins. If it included a broadcast director function as well admins could stream their league action live in real time. Would include full rewind and replay options so any incidents could be reviewed and penalties handed out on the fly making it much fairer and a whole lot more exciting for esports and viewers. The client should be compatible with ALL versions of the game so historical leagues could also be run. Organizing a league through the awkward game interface would be no longer needed and much more powerful. Being an officially endorsed game even F1 themselves could organize races before major IRL events (or instead of like now) and help the racing community get more involved.

Of course to go with this server app there would be a client app available on portable devices that would enable viewers to view all the current races and calendar and tune in to watch and comment, their input would be visible to the admin so he /she could read the more interesting comments out live. Yes that means the server admin app would have built in live streaming to the platform of your choice.

The future is yours all you have to do is grab it! It would be exciting for viewers to be able to check an upcoming race, view the drivers and check their stats. Maybe they could also be able to forecast the top 10 finishers and after the race the viewer(s) with the most accurate predictions would win some nominal prize, such as a gift coupon towards purchase of the game. Or to keep it away from ANY type of gambling metaphor they would just have their names displayed on the race over screen. Race results plus fan of the day

Yes I know all this is ambitious but you have the license securely in your pocket now, and why not raise the bar and OWN it?

Oh boy. If only Codemasters shared our vision that a racing game portraying the pinnacle of motorsport should try to be the pinnacle of (e-sport) games as well. 
And stopped being content with just milking the license. 

A man can dream. But if anyone from codies actually cares and reads this: This is how seriously we would have you take your game. The core of the game is good enough to deserve it too. 
E-sports is booming, twitch is booming, f1 is booming. Make a competitive platform that works well for streams and online leagues and give us the power to steward and direct our own races. 

Please don't add any more classes and cosmetics and stuff before the game actually works as intended and the competitive online side is fun and working correctly.
Don't be content with just making a singleplayer game that some people try to brave online despite of itself.
