Tips to be faster:I'm 3 seconds slower than top players

Recommended Posts

In time trial I am slower than top player about 3 seconds.  I play f1 2019 without helps, with fanatec csl elite and load cell pedals. In one lap 3 second are a lot of time. Any tips?

You need to game the game, I feel. Setups aren't very realistic or quantifiable. But whatever gives you confidence or you have confidence in (whether you can feel what is going on or not). It might mean your controls are not very realistic. The in-game options might not necessarily the ones that look the best that give the best feel or speed. This might apply to controls as well.

You need to exploit the track limits and be prepared to not look very smooth (whether this is the effect of spectator cams I'm not entirely sure). The use of the gears is quite important in knowing when to hold a gear, when to downshift, how to use the downshift to help rotate the car and how to use short-shifting to balance traction vs wheelspin.

I'm generally in the same bracket as you 2-3 seconds off the very best when at my very best. The best are consistent, know how to micro-manage the ERS in races and best use of fuel load and mix usage.

Me - I try to be smooth, like the game to look nice, I pray for feel and don't like to mess with the controls too much. Perhaps that's why I'm slower.

It will take more time and practice to get to those speeds....the mind is a muscle...and it gets stronger with practice over time. You simply cannot rush speed...it's all about virtual proprioception... and only time will tell.

Proprioception: perception or awareness of the position and movement of the body. Great word. Had to look it up. 🙂

Depressing comment about the official F1 game...

This is something that applies to most driving games.  There will always be exploits that allow the player to be faster.  And until you learn them and use them, you will be at a disadvantage.

For example, in GT5 there was an online ranking event using a touring car at Spa.  The top driver described how he did it, and it involved knowing exactly how far over the curb you can go at every turn, knowing how much to force the car to slide in turn 1 to give you a better angle for the run down the hill, etc.  It's a game, and all games are based on computer code, not real life.

What I found particularly depressing was the statement: "Setups aren't very realistic or quantifiable."

Totally understood.  We keep hoping for a "Simulation Mode" in addition to the current "easy to understand for the casual player" system.  It would be a huge amount of work, as it would involve completely rewriting the entire physics code, modelling and likely most of the rest of the code, since this would be fundamental to the entire game.

Unfortunately, Codies is trapped in the annual release h*ll.  With the requirement to create a new game each year, it's nearly impossible to do any sort of "rewrite" before the next release is due.

But we keep hoping.

i would recommend going into grand prix mode and just setting practice for 90 minutes as you adapt your play style to dealing with tire wear and your speed. i would recommend time trial for learning the track but yes its good to be fast but balancing that with fuel ers and tyre wear on grand prix mode for me is so much better. recommend getting every so often looking on race director to see how you are doing and compare it to the ai and see where you are losing time. hope this helps.
