The Dirt Daily Thread

Recommended Posts

Daily: Polo, Germany... I was annoyed by how slowly this thing's sequential gearbox changed gears, so I switched to h-pattern and clutch as I would with any other car really... the time difference was massive. I got a 3:06 on the daily, and that's after hitting some rocks and losing momentum... I would have gotten 3:04 easily with a clean run.

Why is sequential shifting so slow?

Anyway....

Owners' club: Manta, Wales... utterly crap run. Understeering lots, bumping into stuff, bad lines... how I even managed to set below 3 minutes is beyond me.
Noticed that you power away on straights and out of slow curves in the daily, as compared to me. Is that the difference of the h-pattern gearbox or how do you do this? And yes, I probably did a bit too much cutting there.. ;)

Daily: Seldom in the mood for PP nowadays.
Delta: Microscopic mistakes towards the end stopped me from setting a sub 3 minute time, which is going to annoy me for the rest of the day.

Changed my shitty case from some Thermaltake to Fractal Core 3300, dropped 6 C on CPU alone and finally stopped retiring on dailies. :D
BMW could've been better, but i was also doing a gameplay recording of it for the sake of stress testing the cooling improvements. At least i did not retire, yippee!

@Porkhammer not advertising a league, just wanted to post a video for people to see what they thought! :)
That may well be, but this is still the daily thread. You're posting stuff that is not related to daily events.

Daily: 306 Maxi, Kontinjärvi... could well have been a sub-6 minute run. Instead I made all kinds of mistakes; misshifts, car bouncing out of line mid-corner (...) clipping trees... so I had to settle for a crappy 6:04.

Delta: Again too many mistakes for my liking, I'm guessing 2-3 seconds lost.

Just one of those days.

Daily: Group A Escort, Greece - messed up in the very final corner and lost about a second.
Owners' club: Kadett, same stage - pushed way too hard in some places and made some tiny mistakes. Hopefully it didn't affect my stage time too much!

Did the Delta as soon as I fired up the PS4 last night. First half of the run was a bit messy, but I was over 20 seconds up at the half way mark. Ran wide on a tight right in the third sector, straight off the edge and got the "car unrecoverable" screen! I only ever seem to be able to get the car into unrecoverable situations doing the Daily or Monthly challenges: bloody typical!

Did the first (rallycross) Daily immediately afterwards. Few little mistakes, but a top 20 time, so better than parking my car down a cliff!

Stratos daily... felt incredibly slow. 3:43 in practice but no matter how hard I pushed, the car felt disturbingly slow. Ended up pushing too hard and clipping a cliff wall with the rear and spun around. So I alt-f4'd seeing as there was no point proceeding.

Pretty pleased with my run in the 037 last night. Played it safe in the second half of the stage, but posted a top 40 time (and top 10 for controller players) which I was pretty pleased about: just getting to the end of the stage in the 037 is usually an achievement for me!  :D

Daily: Countryman, Monaco - didn't feel like a fast run. I think it's because the car understeers a lot. But hey, I'm leading at the moment. Must have done something right.

Owners' club: Subaru 2001, Germany - yay, car setups enabled. Means I could make the Subaru less boaty. 5:58.1 in the daily, which I figured was good... then I was almost beat by Max, which pulled away from me lots and lots on the telemetry, and only failed to get me because he botched one of his shortcuts. Serves you right. :P

Anyway, I gathered that he used H-box and clutch while I settled for regular sequential shifting. So I re-did the stage in custom event with H-box and clutch and boom - almost six seconds quicker.

Holy wow!  H pattern makes *that* much difference?  That's crazy :(
Only when used with clutch - it lets you powershift. Shifting without releasing throttle. It's megafast and is a huge advantage - especially in the kitcars and some 2010 cars, because their sequential shifting is so slow. The Polo comes to mind...

Oh and powershifting doesn't damage anything. Funny.

Did you tried to do that in sequential? I think it does work too, you lose less RPM while gearing up.

Sequential automatically releases throttle when up & down shifting, so powershifting is not possible.

Huh, seems a little bit odd. I'm almost certainly sure it is possible - press the clutch and throttle and it will enable the rev limiter even when you're changing gears. Maybe I dont really get the idea of powershifting or I'm loosing something.

I expect that all Sequential modes have a forced Throttle release on shifting and clutch override only works as a clutch kick. Hitting revs during shifts with clutch kick? Just hiding the forced throttle release. Normal shifts with the real clutch enabled can be faster than a few sequential cars in game as is.

That's exactly how it works snaky. Sequential will always be at a disadvantage to H-pattern and clutch. Sad, but that's how the game is designed.

Back on topic, since I cannot be bothered with the 405 or Pikes Peak as of late, I went for the owners' club daily. Manta, Greece. Made a setup, did one testrun. Felt good. Jumped into the daily. Misshift galore, understeer, and bad lines. I estimate a 5 second timeloss.

Foxtrot uniform charlie kilo.

Hope they do a patch to fix that, sounds quite unfair to give so much advantage to H-shifter and clutch :-/
