The Dirt Daily Thread

The 205 daily in Sweden was... interesting. Understeer, oversteer x 592. Also front bias brakes. In other words, a truly horrid default setup. Still managed to set a new WR for some reason... with mistakes. k

Delta daily... in the Delta Integrale - on one of my favourite stages. Sadly, no setups allowed... luckily the Integrale's default setup is one of the best in the game. It could do with a little rear bias brakes, s'all. Anyway, I finished the daily. I kept going back and forth between conservative and hard pushing all throughout the stage, which resulted in two minor mistakes. Hoping I didn't lose too much time on those.

Praise be Greece - the reason why i love DiRT Rally so much.
Man, the Delta is SO LIGHT on its wheels, most of the time loss is just me preventing the rear going out. Still improved upon my handling check run, which was just 0.7s slower.

Also, because Greece.

Nice! Do you drive with exterior view?

Yeah, that was the video of how the game looks when i play. Including the exterior view part. Just what i am used to for DiRT Rally - for older DiRTs i use headcam actually.

Bested me by a few seconds Dorfer, damn, but i am not exactly a fan of the Delta unfortunately.

Another daily ruined because, as it does almost daily, the fucking game just decide to minimize itself right in the middle of the stage.
And continue running. Of course I ran into a fucking wall, caught a puncture and that stage was over with.
This has been a major thing for weeks now, and it's really pissing me off...

Sounds like your OS is trying to do something? I remember my brother had the same issue with some of his games because Windows kept autoswitching wallpaper or something along those lines. Try to find out what's causing it; next time it happens, open up the task manager and see if you can spot anything.

Thought i'd try today's dailys without a practice run first. In Greece i messed up the first corner enough to wreck a top 10 unless i really pushed it, so i did. Went off a cliff half way through. DNF. :(   From that i went straight into the Sweden stage trying to be more careful. Hit 3 banks along the way and even had a 360 spin towards the end. Amazed to still be in 2nd. Everyone must have had a rough run there today.

I clipped 3 banks as well - albeit very briefly - mainly because the default setup for the 205 is absolute trash. It oversteers and understeers randomly in Sweden, and the front biased brakes just made things worse. I had to constantly pull the handbrake even before quick corners just to position the car where I wanted it. Maybe I have a weird driving style? I'll bet I'm not the only one disliking this setup, which would explain why so many were struggling. That, and the car is crazy fast. I think the amount of times I could actually floor the throttle can be counted on one hand... haha! It was almost never necessary.

Oh look, a 1995 Subaru daily. That means it will change handling characteristics between the practice and daily. Well, I wasn't wrong. In practice it all went pretty smooth and I managed a 6:48. On the daily, however... a sudden, mysterious understeer on every single corner exit plagued my run. So... 3 seconds slower.

I swear this car suffers from perpetual PMS; changing personality every 5 minutes.

Owners' club... oh man. My favourite stage, but... the 037? Trickiest car to drive by far for me. Even the 205 was a breeze compared to this; at least it let me exhale. Not this time. To my amazement I actually finished, and even got away with two snowbank cuddles at high speed that I shouldn't have gotten away with. Luck or skill? My guess is luck. I felt like I was just holding onto the wheel while the car did its thing. What a terrifying, yet pleasant experience.

Oh, look. Mr All-The-Grip is back for the Monte daily. Even crashing before the final bend and he still beats @Porkhammer.

Oh the italian with supergrip? Don't mind him. Just smile and nod in his general direction.

Might i suggest for Pork to take whole 2 practice events for non-dry stages? First one just to warm up the game, 2nd one to actually practice.

Started doing this myself often if i felt the game was playing tricks on me, usually just for asphalt too. And from my experiences with Subaru 95, your lack of understeer in practice sounds like a Christmas miracle. :D

No, the understeer was there, but it was a lot more prominent in the daily - but only on corner exits. Very strange.

Well, even weirder then! But the Physics inconsistencies are certainly interesting. Like Ryu once - i had to reinstall to make the Focus 01 have its physics back, as it was heavier than a flipping R4 for me for a while, consistently slower than before.

Woohooooooo!! P1 at the moment on my favourite MC track. Nice flow and only minor mistakes. The last turn was tricky, as I hit the crash barrier, but I could just make it over the line.

Take a look at OneZeroOne's telemetry. Seems legit. ;)

Very lucky to stay ahead, but truly satisfying after all these 2nd & 3rd places. I never know whether this onezeroone is playing unfairly or if he is really fast and simply rushed to deliver pizza on time up on Turini =)

Crazy skills then! I could never drive with this view, since I use the opposite of you - bumper cam.

Both dailies went surprisingly well today.

Daily: Fiesta, Wales - no real mistakes, just a couple of poorly choosen lines. I don't think it costed me that much. Really surprised to have set this time with the Fiesta's marshmallow default setup.

Owners' club: Manta, Germany - My only mistake here was a misshift coming out of the 90 degree right hander after the haybale chicanes.

Fiesta: At times it felt like sitting on a crab, for all it's efforts to step away sideways, but in the end I got a very good time. Currently 4th, which is as high I can hope to come. :)

Manta: Felt I was on course for a decent-to-good time here as well. Misjudged my entry to the long righthander at the top of the hill going into the woods. A wheel got on the grass and I was promptly bumped along into the crowd. Got pissed off and subsequently rolled again in the downhill through the woods. Waaaay down in the rankings on this one.

Daily: PP. cba
Owners': Sweden, nice. Renault 5, bad. Spent 40 mins trying to adjust to it. I couldn't. Daily was mistake riddled and the time was absolutely useless.

EDIT: I guess the majority of people "forgot" to upgrade their Renault 5?

Daily: Alpine, Finland... there was just no point even trying to compete. The car had 10 degrees of rotation. After setting a time I considered acceptable after 2 attempts in practice, I jumped into the daily... which got worse and worse the further I got into the stage. I finally went off in the very last sector due to... you guessed it. Hypersensitive steering. I just cannot position the car over the crests at all when it's like this.

Why does it have 10 degrees of rotation? Why can't it use the full 300 degrees that I am using?

Yes, twitchy as hell. Handling spoils, potentially, a truly great car in DiRT Rally.

I had a similar experience with the Alpine. And now I remember why I haven't driven that car in months. Beautiful thing to look at, and listen to. But very difficult to drive. Time wasn't great, but apparently others sturggled more, so I'm not unhappy.

The Polo stage was really fun. I love Koryfi, and the Polo fits really well there. If it weren't for that really strange gearing in the default setup. Way too long for my likings. Had the car dip to ~3500rpm a couple times going into 2nd right after the hairpins. Still managed a 2:55, can't complain at all.

The Alpine is not difficult to drive though, it just overreacts strangely to my steering inputs. That's 5 cars that has weirdo steering for me now. All the others are fine. Makes no sense.
